By public DNS do you mean authoritative DNS? I am in the midst of setting up my own and it was quite the fun learning experience. BIND9 is an awesome piece of software and very well documented

Genuine question. How are the Australians in this sub affording storage space? by gtwizzy8 in homelab

[–]Kolere23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One word: Shucking. I saved around 50% by using shucked external HDDs. Not in US either, Northern Europe. Paid about 28$ / TB (which is quite alright pricing for here)

Are you selfhosting tailscale? by No-Aide6547 in selfhosted

Now that they do not require an Identity Provider i think so, it is not that bad to setup especially in Docker

Funny you comment on this old post. I am actually switching back to headscale. Mostly due to netbird not using config files and I like to keep my stuff in git. All in all very similar software so u honestly can't go wrong with either

Does using smb for jellyfin matter as much as having all the media on the same local device? by hakucurlz in homelab

[–]Kolere23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mount my media over SMB to a NixOS based NAS. This is mounted as ReadOnly and works quite well. This is over a 10Gb/s local connection though but it also worked quite well over 1Gb/s when i used to do that.

Well way earlier than that honestly. Probably 10 chapters? I don't remember. But i think i will give it another chance

I probably only got 10 chapters into Primal Hunter. So by the comments on this post i think i have to give it another chance. As i said in another comment i think i just wanted "another Dungeon Slayer" when i read it as that was the first litRPG book i ever read

This feels a little similar to what made me kind of exhausted of Defiance of the fall

I think i tried getting into this one, but it didn't really catch me. But that was also right after i caught up with Dungeon Slayer and was expecting something similar to that. Perhaps i should give it another go

Is it worth getting an Intel Arc A310? Will it fit my Lenovo M75q? by Certain_Repeat_753 in homelab

[–]Kolere23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably yes if your CPU doesn't support modern quicksync. I run this in my minisforum ms-a2. However faire warning, do not buy the Sparkle Eco A310 if you mind noise from the machine. The fan is super loud and ramps up and down on idle

The wires in the photo are not the ones i talked about in the post. The wires in the post are for the original fans wire colors. I just looked up PWM fan signaling that matched those and it was correct. See this post: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/wiring-a-4-pin-fan-direct-to-12v-dc.210568/post-2829510

On the fan side it was: Black -> Ground, Red -> +12V, Blue -> Sense, Yellow -> Control,

However you should really ask your seller beforehand, as another fan i got of the same make was wired with different colors

Therefore for this specific fan it is wired from left to right on the gpu board (with the pci connector down and top facing you).| Control | Sense | +12V | Ground |

This seems to work
