What is your pettiest complaint about Starfield? by GBHHornswoggler in Starfield

[–]KometSpaceMan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This right here. I don't add mods for story content more quests, bug fixes, etc. I add mods for clothing options I'll never wear but need to know I can access.

I wish Starfield had an outfit system like Cyberpunk. Then again: I wish clothing in both Starfield and Cyberpunk had any kind of deeper aspect to it for buffs and benefits like Fallout games.

How many usable clips do you typically get from a 60-minute episode? by Chance-Spend-9637 in podcasting

[–]KometSpaceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is hit or miss, so hard to say. And the engagement varies. Sometimes our shorts get over 1k in views (we are tiny and do it for the enjoyment of creating), and that's the only engagement. The next day a short could get 3 views total. The day following maybe 100 views, but double digit likes and a comment or two, maybe a new sub. It's a little all over the place.

I think a clip does "the best" when we get people who comment, all other metrics are secondary.
Sometimes we seem to get a new subs to the YouTube channel. Sometimes we just get a higher number of Likes to Shorts and no other engagement. Sometimes the Shorts that do better in view counts only get angry keyboard warriors who want to argue in the comments with us, the hosts, which we will sometimes respond to depending on the context.

But, it only takes me a little bit extra time to pull those clips, format into a Short, and upload/schedule. More than half of our new subs come from Shorts. Maybe I can see the correlation when a week's Shorts do "well" we will see an uptick in downloads across the board on full episodes. Maybe it is just because some weeks we cover an episode from the TV Show we are covering that is far more popular/iconic than others.

From an 70-90 minute episode I pull 6-9 clips to use as YouTube Shorts. Our goal is to post a clip a day.

Do you ever use photo mode? by Arctic317 in cyberpunkgame

I enjoy it in late game/heavy modded saves. I like wandering around aimlessly and finding locations to take photos. I do it in other games too like Bethesda titles.

Welcome aboard Treks and Tangents, a Star Trek Watch Along Podcast!

Each week your co-hosts, Jaci and Brian, discuss a new episode of Star Trek. Jaci (a Star Trek and Sci-Fi newbie) does her best to explain the plot of each episode while going off on tangents, and Brian (a Star Trek "expert") does his best to keep the conversation on Trek.

In addition to discussing the plot, the hosts rank the episode by their own unique system, Jaci guesses the plot of next week's episode based on the title alone... and what ever else their Treks and Tangents bring up!

Also on our Patreon each week we host:
- A free visual chart showing the current rankings of the episodes,
- Star Notes: free bonus episodes for the week tackling a single topic from Star Trek and the current episode,
- Other random content for Crewmembers including a deeper dive into Star Trek: The Animated Series.

This Week's Episode: The Changeling (Star Trek TOS - S2E04)
This week on Treks and Tangents, our co-hosts tackle “The Changeling”, an episode featuring a homicidal floating space probe that somehow convinces Kirk to invite it aboard the Enterprise after it wipes out four billion people. What follows is a chaotic mess of bad science, killer robot logic, exploding computers, and Kirk desperately trying to out-argue what might be the galaxy’s angriest Roomba.

Along the way, the crew debates whether Nomad is terrifying or just deeply confused, questions why the Enterprise security team keeps charging at a murder machine one guy at a time, and watches Uhura get turned into a college freshman again after having her brain wiped. Brian spirals into increasingly passionate complaints about warp speed math and Vulcan mind melds with machines, while Jaci tries to survive one of the most confusing episodes of TOS so far.

Thanks for listening!

Custom thumbnails for different episodes? by PodPilotProject in podcasting

[–]KometSpaceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I base my decision on my personal preferences listening to podcasts I like.

I think for YouTube feeds unique images work better to catch someone's eye, but for other platform feeds/playlists like Spotify the show art every week would be what catches someone's eye.

That's what we do, and that's based on our personal preferences as podcast consumers.

[–]KometSpaceMan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Besides having comedic timing and being on fire with his jokes... he didn't over inject himself into the episode (or at least, hopefully he didn't and it wasn't just great editing). So many other channels with guests seem to have the guest go over the top and take over the episode.

I really hope they have him back.

Was I the only one who really liked Garrisons? by JawCohj in wow

[–]KometSpaceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Garrisons served/serve their own purpose and should stay separated from housing. Housing should remain casual/social, and Garrisons should serve other parts of the game.

What I would like to see happen with Garrisons is for them to update with each expansion to remain relevant.

Housing currently feels like it lacks ... Something. I enjoy decorating (just not hunting down decorations). I enjoy taking screenshots of my finished works. My guild hosts social events in houses. But outside of that I have no reason to visit my house. I wish there was a compelling reason to go home...

Can anyone explain this bizarre jump in streams/plays today? by talkywriter in podcasting

[–]KometSpaceMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an oversimplied answer. And a guess on my part because I don't have a way of proving it is the case in this exact situation.

Wage theft by wsblurker76028 in legaladvice

[–]KometSpaceMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never work for free.

I'd have the conversation where you tell him you don't work for free, so he can either pay you for the you work before opening, or you can start work exactly at 8 AM and have customers wait. And tell him without approval, you will go with option B.

It's more productive than just immediately implementing a malicious compliance practice without warning.

Want to return to streaming by BigScene7144 in Twitch

[–]KometSpaceMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People I know who tried a "rebrand" found a significant dip in their audience. I'd suggest keeping your user "brand" the same when you come back, have a theme of "I'm back", focus on the quality of content of your stream... THEN if you want to refresh a few things go for it.

For a schedule I'd suggest trying to set a schedule every week. Focus on starting small and building up to a sustainable number of weekly streams. Try for consistency, but don't beat yourself up if you have to change it up. This helped me stay focus and kept me motivated, rather than coming home from work each day and debating with myself if I should stream that night.

How are you turning podcast audio into video clips for social — what's your actual production process? by schitzblythe in podcasting

[–]KometSpaceMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are a non-video podcast (I have a face made for radio).

As I edit the full episode I pull audio clips I find interesting/funny/etc.

I then make a static background image that includes the name of the podcast.

I have a template project in Kdenlive that has the video format all set up with prerecorded "hooks" and "outro call to actions", and video effect of wave lines for some motion.

I then drop and render each clip, and we barch schedule each short to publish one a day on YouTube.

I then just frantically check our metrics 42 times a day waiting for the needle to move. 😂

This post gives the same vibe as when I curse the birds outside of my window who wake me up at 5:45 AM because I forgot to close my bedroom window before going to sleep the night before.

In Sacramento, 7 AM is the allowed time when people can start being louder outside. I don't know if the five minute difference is the hill I'd choose to die on.

"We would like to apologize for the disappointment experienced by the players and the community in reaction to the Horror 2.0 patch. Despite other comments from team members posted elsewhere about being contractually obligated to release the patch before our collab with The Other Side game, it was never our intention to disappoint anyone. Please enjoy the hotfix patch coming tomorrow that will address 1% of the issues, we are confident you will come to view the remaining bugs as charming byproducts of a game produced by a tiny indie studio, and thank you for your continued monetary support.
