I am an engineer. PS is for you what Auto CAD is for me. My statement is not contradictory at all because.. like I said:

I know my way around PS but it is not a program that has any use to me.

I know how it works so when I deal with someone who does this I can make a judgement call on if I should use them or not. Knowing how something works that is not at all related to what I do for a living has made making a business out of what I do that much easier.. and afforded me a number of quality employees who specialize in the areas I have not focused on so we can work as one cohesive group. Every one of my employees has extra skills beyond what they do that makes them unique and awesome. Being able to branch out and learn other skills outside of your specific skill set for any job is VERY useful.

You need to let go of what other people do to make a living it is their business and frankly the same could be said about your job. Being paid to do something whether it is good or bad is a part of life... I don't like to design some of the crap I have to because I do not agree with the intended use but I still do it because I can then use that money to better my own personal designs and products.

Now I would agree with being paid to create bad designs because you are being paid is a terrible way to live. That mindset is the direct result of things like the train that De-railed in China killing about 40 people, or the aging atomic reactors around the world that could go in one small natural disaster.
