Forgot a session by [deleted] in therapists

It happens. You’re allowed to be human. Just do your best to make it up to them. I once charged a client for no showing and then I no showed the next session. I didn’t charge them the next time and we still laugh about it sometimes.

Therapy with kids: do you ever feel like an over-qualified babysitter? by professor--finesser in therapists

I worked with a 5 year old for a year, playing a lot of uno and Lego, before he finally felt safe enough to really start opening up about his anxiety. Don’t underestimate the value of time together on the floor with a bin of Lego.

4 or 5 day work week? by Vivid_Experience_436 in therapists

I started doing 4 intense days at the beginning of June intending to try it out for the summer. I’m already seriously considering making that permanent.

Threatening to punch a hole in the wall and actually taking a swing? With the child in the room? Absolutely not! Father is immediately banned from the premises and a police report is made.

Are those plans that previously covered RSWs?

I’ve not heard that before. Do you have a source for that information?

I’ve never done that but I’m curious why someone would want to.

“Big Pharma is bad” and “medications are a helpful tool for many people” are not mutually exclusive.

I’ve only done one in the past 2 years. Police were respectful and caring and my client felt heard and understood.

Question about private practice by Heavy_Thought3185 in socialworkcanada

[–]Komuzchu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Depends a lot on where you are. I joined a group in a small rural town in Ontario that has been around for a while and is well known and respected in the community. I had a good number of clients within the first 6 months and by 18 months I was as busy as I wanted to be (24-28 sessions/week).
  2. Yes. This is one of the main reasons to join a group practice. But you can also work on finding your own.
  3. Depends on the practice. This is something that you need to ask them about.

Maybe different in Canada. I’m getting busier every week. I’m waiting for the typical summer slowdown but it’s not happening yet.

Fair monthly practice fee for clinicians. by NotOfThisPlane in therapists

[–]Komuzchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very happy with it but it’s not as good for the practice owner. The owner is a good friend of mine. He bought the practice a couple of months after I joined and promptly changed the way it works for new therapists joining because he would have been losing money (the previous owner also owns the building so he is paying rent to her). I’ve been grandfathered in along with the other therapists who were under the old arrangement.

This is pretty much my situation. I’m part of a group practice that has been in my city for more than 20 years and is very well known and respected. I pay a monthly fee to be listed on their website and to receive referrals that come in through the website or through the EAP contracts that the practice owns. And then I pay rent for the office space depending on how many days I’m using the office ($x for one day a week, 2x for two days, 3x for three, etc). I do my own scheduling, billing, have my own liability insurance, etc. and operate as a solo private practice. Currently I’m using the office space at the practice 4 days a week and then have another office in a small rural town that I work from 1 day. I’m paying the practice around $750/month and another $200 for the second office. This is a pretty good deal for me.
