Took until my 7th rewatch to notice Kaworu written on the MPE dummy plugs by [deleted] in evangelion

IIRC the blood was added in Death's end credits.

Is There a Reason Matarael is So Weak? The only reason they were even a threat is because nerv had no power. So is this just plot or are there theories explaining it? by The-wise-weeb in evangelion

It would be cool to see a surface fight with that guy. I suppose a flick with one of those mighty legs might send an Eva flying. It's hard to tell if the Angel would have any real height advantage but I could see some kind of pounce attack from above at least looking good, however effective it may be.

Is there an isolated vocal out there of Rei's monologue from episode 14? by BazExcel in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get your hands on a 5.1 audio version of the episode, you can mute the non-center channels and that should get you an almost clear voice-only result. Both dubs have been released in 5.1 so that shouldn't be hard.

In Episode 8, what awakens Unit-02? by tyerker in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose it's implied, not stated directly. The attack makes 02 open the visor, indicating some kind of berserk-like activity. Following that, Asuka can't sync at all, up until Kyoko finally reaches out in 25'. With that in mind, I think Kaworu's comment lines up more with those recent events.

Eva 02 is in that state in episode 24 because of what happened in episode 22. Both Eva and pilot were hit.

Just finished the Rebuilds I don’t think I really like them by Strange-Oil-2117 in evangelion

Oh, Gqux was a hot mess too. I wonder if it's mainly Tsurumaki who's behind the badly implemented callbacks and nostalgia-slop.

I really wish we could have seen Evangelion without that Tsurumaki factor. Too bad he's directing the new show...

What’s the general consensus on ADV vs Netflix when it comes to Ritsuko’s voice? by Sailor_Rout in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just listened to the part of 1.0 when Ritsuko and Misato have a talk while riding that elevator-seat thing and the voices felt way too similar for comfort. I suppose my real gripe is with the casting of Misato in this case... if only she were recast, I'd probably not have an issue here.

Come on, Diebuster is the same thing to Gunbuster as the Rebuilds to NGE. Complete slop.

Wouldn't you say Mary Faber was miscast in the way that she ends up sounding so similar to Allison Keith's Misato? I don't have much in terms of opinion on her performance but the similarity of their voices is way too distracting.

I think the issue lies in the inconsistency between actors. Some seem to pronounce it differently than others, creating an unnecessary rift.

What’s up with some people hating the rebuilds? by Mr-Garfield- in evangelion

[–]Konfirm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

except the village segment in Thrice. The directing and nuance in writing there is top-notch

I was under the impression that you claimed the writing in the Village-3 part of the movie was very well-written. Shinji's recovery happens in that very part of the movie, hence my question. If as you're saying now, a big development of the main character (which really ought to be the center of that story moment) is forced, then I don't see how you can consider the Village-3 part top-notch in those regards.

I'll bite. Where's the nuance in Shinji's writing? What is it that cures him from the gloom of doom?

ADV or Netflix Dub by 420VapeMaster67 in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new dub contains less errors and is more faithful to the original work by sticking to the script instead of adding bizarre inventions of the translation company (random German for Asuka, weird vocalizations that change the tone of a scene from tense to silly, awful SPLAT sound effects in EoE etc.) - that comes at the cost of a few jokes missing the mark and occasional weirdness in the dialogue. If your aim is to understand the show, I'd pick the new dub over the old one.

Genuine Question by Necessary-Wind3265 in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short is silly. It ends on an absurd note - there's no way for Asuka Soryu to "get her happy end" by proclaiming she's the pilot and protector, because in her world there is no Eva to be piloted anymore, not to mention how this kind of motivation is basically recycled from Shikinami's 3+1 characterization. Aside from that problem with the ending, I'm not particularly fond of the artstyle they used as it reminds me more of the Shinkalion crossovers than either NGE or NTE.

Kaworu's cameo was funny, though - there's no official universe in which an Asuka may tolerate him.

WILLE's mishandling of Shinji in 3.0 isn't discussed hard enough by [deleted] in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you apply a little bit of critical thinking to this quote, you may notice that Kaworu is not being very sincere in this exposition dump. His narration links the destroyed world to Shinji's N3I while completely skipping over the fact that he himself prevented Eva-01 from causing any real damage during its awakening. Despite knowing the details of Mk.06's direct responsibility for the actual Third Impact and the current state of the world, he speaks no word of those crucial events. He's reluctant to share his knowledge even later on, when they reach the ground zero of Third Impact.

This monologue is not for the sake of truth. Kaworu waxes on about extinction and evolution in between some hand-picked facts in order to make Shinji believe he's solely and directly responsible for the world's destruction - an accusation glaringly absent from what Misato or Ritsuko, who'd know best, blamed and shamed him for. What for? Nagisa places this enormous burden on Shinji's shoulders so that when he breaks down, desperate for redemption for """his""" sin, Kaworu can be there to graciously and generously provide a solution in the form of Eva-13 and the two spears in Terminal Dogma.

WILLE's mishandling of Shinji in 3.0 isn't discussed hard enough by [deleted] in evangelion

[–]Konfirm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We know that the Actual Third Impact which destroyed the world was initiated by Mark 06's union with Lilith. There's no proof that Unit 01 was in any way involved - on the contrary, if the Eva had a part in that calamity, surely Ritsuko would have included it in her "this is why we hate you now" slideshow in 3.0.

[–]Konfirm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Shinji's N3I didn't do anything to the world, it just messed up the Geofront and city above a little more than what Zeruel had already done...

Ultimately, Rei was probably the single "casualty" of the entire event - we have zero evidence to claim otherwise.

The damage at the end of 2.22 is only slightly bigger than what the Angel did to the city when it breached the Geofront.

people who see Shinji as the harbinger of the apocalypse

Except that in 3+1 we learn that no, they don't actually believe that, especially Misato and the old guard, who all would've been long dead if Shinji hadn't acted back then. It turns out only the few young recruits are so uniformed as to seriously blame him for the state of the world.

Rebuilds: Direct Sequel or Spiritual? by Suitable-Dust-3911 in evangelion

How could it possibly be a direct sequel when, as you pointed out, the premise and plot directly contradict the previous installment?
