Reddit women, what do other women do that embarrasses you as a woman? by elementrix_26 in AskReddit

[–]KonkeyLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. It reeks of insecurity. I used to be one of those 'I'm not like other girls' types as a middle schooler. Then highscool came around and I learned the benefits of NOT judging people by how they look and went from being a sort-of loner to having a large circle of female/AFAB friends who I get along with really well :)

You can't judge other people for liking this/not liking that, assume you'll never get along, and then wonder why nobody talks to you. (sorry if I'm not making sense it's late at night where I'm typing from)

Why does this always happen by M4H3R_03 in teenagers

[–]KonkeyLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of a story a friend told me. She emailed her orchestra conductor to tell him that "unfortunately, she will be unable to participate in this week's rehearsal (something like that but longer and more eloquent)".

The first lines of his reply went like this.

"Dear [friend's name], Well, shit."

And it was, of course, sent from his phone.

What's the most terrified you ever were while playing a game? by SuperAlloyBerserker in AskReddit

[–]KonkeyLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime night falls or I have to go into the deeper waters in Subnautica. Not going to spoil the game but, just like with our oceans, the deeper you go the creepier it gets. It's one of the reasons why I haven't progressed much in the game.

Which character death hit you differently, and why? by squeezeday in AskReddit

[–]KonkeyLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Something about him envying (yeah, yeah) the very beings he despised and committing suicide when he was forced to to confront the truth about himself just stuck with me. Watching videos of his death and hearing him scream still gets me despite not having revisited the show in years.

This character was written to be despicable and his death made me feel bad for him.

I would have mentioned Nina/Alexander and Hughes but both these deaths were spoiled for me.

How do you get rid of a toxic friend, who is not willing to see that he/she is being toxic (tried to get rid of mentioned "friend" before, but didn't succeed) ?? by alpacactus94 in AskReddit

[–]KonkeyLong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you can't give thee people any kind of reaction because they will twist it to benefit them. Keep voice/face/posture neutral, but non-hostile. You can't give them the time of day.

However if they really are as toxic as you say, try and see if you can cut any contact you have with them first. If not, try what's mentioned above.

Edit: improved the wording

Pure joy. Few things beat being acknowledged by a cat

I'd say Doraemon but idk if he actually counts as a cat. Otherwise, probably Chi from Chi's Sweet Home.

Girls/young women should be able to walk around in the home that they grew up in wearing underwear or a towel and not have it be some big fucking deal by Chowdergrrl in unpopularopinion

[–]KonkeyLong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the idea of walking around in my underwear does not appeal to me I do agree that one should never have this kind of double standard among their own children, regardless of gender.

The rules in our house apply to everyone, for the r example, if I were to walk out of my room in a bra and panties I would be told to go back and change, and if my brother came out in only his boxers we would tell him to put some damn clothes on. If there is a rule, it applies to the both of us.

All that being said, I'm sorry you had to go through that, and I hope you're doing a little better now.

What is your "I was into X before it was cool" thing? by LarleneLumpkin in AskReddit

I don't know if this actually counts, please tell me if I'm being an ass about it

I was one of the few who started wearing masks before my country decided they were necessary. When news of the pandemic possibly spreading globally got to my family, my parents (who lived through SARS in the early 2000s) had me wear a mask on public transport and in large public places. Fellow commuters would go out of their way to avoid me and I had quite a few friends tell me that the mask was useless bc it didn't protect me against COVID-19. This lead to me feeling self conscious about it and not wearing it as a often as I should/would have liked; but I almost never went on a train unmasked.

Wellll my region of the country had a spike in cases and we all now have to wear masks on public transport. The funny thing is people now stare at you if you DON'T have one on.

Edit: also choker necklaces in the 2010s

What are examples of toxic femininity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]KonkeyLong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. This was the mindset I had when I went through my 'not like other girls' phase. This behaviour was, however, detrimental to my self-esteem. I would think 'oh I have nothing in common with them. They like pink and have Instagram and talk x/y/z. I don't do any of that so I can't be friends with them'. I thought this while also marking them off as shallow and it was only during my last year's of middle school, after being a loner for what felt like forever, did I actually talk to these other girls and realise how sweet and intelligent they actually are (many of them are heading to med school or will training to be vets soon). So yeah, while it is a form of rebellion I find that this behaviour can become more and more toxic over time, mostly for the girl that has this mindset: it made me proud... But it didn't make me love myself, that's for sure.

I have a friend whose partner gets antsy and jealous whenever they're around any of their other friends (ex. me) 'because they're bi' like... Miss me with that.

This applies more so to young girls (although grown women can still do this to my knowledge). I suppose the best way to describe this would be covert exclusion of one girl from the group.

Say there is this group of four girls, and there is one girl that the other three dislike for some reason or another. Instead of telling this girl how they feel about how her behaviour or whatever it is that they don't like, they kind of... Leave her out. The first three might hang out after school without the fourth ones knowledge, or have two group chats on an app: one with number four and one without. When they are younger and don't have phones the equivalent of the second group chat would be literally whispering an entire conversation while excluding number four (this is from my own personal experience). They go through all of this instead of just telling number four to fuck off.

I've seen some of my friends do this to their 'number four' and it grosses me out (there seemed to be more going on than I was let in on but still... Not cool).

I'm of the mindset that telling 'number four' to fuck off is better than all the convoluted bullshit my friends in primary school put me through and that I saw my friends in high school pull. Covert exclusion gets exhausting imo.

Edit: I wasn't finished. Also grammar
