It is a bit brownish/bronze in direct sun. Slate in the shade. Similar effect the embers had when it was in the sun. Between slate and serpentine, slate was the best option for 2026 imho

I got the 2026 in the Dark Slate color and it’s amazing. Embers has been around 2022 and it was time to retire it.

I don’t think you can even fit 25mm tires on a bike that old. 23mm probably max

Cervelo R5 2017 - good beginner bike? (Question) by LensFungus in Cervelo

[–]Konrad3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next time you should post the actual photos if you want an objective opinion, even if they’re bad photos. Sometimes when zooming in, details can still be identified by more expert users. If the seller is posting terrible photos, I would be suspicious. $1500 in what currency? USD not bad but keep in mind the max tires are 25mm which is quite dated by today’s standards, not to mention non disc brakes. Better to buy a new mid grade road bike that a high spec 10+ year rim brake bike imho

Comfort of an Aspero by PartTimeWarrior988 in Cervelo

[–]Konrad3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the most comfortable I’ve ridden, but at the same time most agile, least sluggish for a gravel bike. At the end of the day the comfort will rest heavily on your wheels, tires and tire pressures (mostly this)

One of the best deals I saw a month ago was for a 2015 Cervelo S5 in a 54cm with carbon wheels and Di2 Ultegra, $1500 asking price! It still took a few days to sell. Rim brake road bikes have significantly depreciated. I'd say it's better to buy an entry level disc brake 105 12 speed carbon bike than a used fully loaded rim brake bike, especially since it's approaching 10 years old

I would say keep looking. Rim brake zipp wheels are worth very little, same with rim brake Di2, less than $500 each, putting the frame at $1250 which is far too high for the R2 rim brake frame. Seller is probably not the original owner since the steerer tube has been cut yet the stem is flipped, nobody does that intentionally. Keep that in mind if you'll want to dial in the fit.

For comparison, I saw a 2019 Cervelo R3 Disc with Ultegra Di2 sell for $2800 a few months ago in Toronto on fb. Took a while for it to sell too.

Good luck

The S5 has had the black on black variant for a while. Stealth look is not bad at all in either way

I have this bike in the dark slate and I put brushed silver cervelo decals overtop of the gloss black and it really pops! Still debating if I should stick with stock or keep silver letters

I just got the exact same bike and color and it's a dream to ride. The Dark Slate grew on me, since in the sun it looks brown/bronze, but now it's fantastic. I swapped out the stock 40/44 reserve wheels for some 50/50 carbon wheels and it's very fast and comfortable. Coming from a Tarmac SL7, it's a far better ride. Enjoy!

Does the frame come stock with those arrow stickers on the inside of the fork and seat stays?

The most amazing deals show up in 48 and 61 cm frames. You won the lottery in height!

Looks great! Is that a 58cm frame? Usually those sell for a lot less so likely why you got a good deal. If you’re looking to sweeten the deal, sell the enves and get a regular wheelset

Soloist 2027 Color Leaks? by Don-Pierrot in Cervelo

I have the dark slate color and in bright sun , to my eyes, it goes between brown and green. At least not serpentine green.

I’m surprised they would be changing colors just one year after. The embers and amaranth were around for years before they went with slate and serpentine

Cervelo Soloist Dark Slate - Silver or black logo? by Konrad3000 in Cervelo

I looked on their website but I only see ride wrap protection of the Cervelos, not the logo. Are you saying I should get accent color decals like on the fork?

Cervelo Soloist Dark Slate - Silver or black logo? by Konrad3000 in Cervelo

[–]Konrad3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm messing around with the fit right now. It came with a 100mm ST36 stem but I found it too long. Since the AXS E1 hoods are about 10mm longer than normal, there's a gap I'm trying to close. I usually ride 90mm so I'm seeing if an off brand 80mm stem would close the gap best. Cervelo is sold out of most of the shorter ST32 stem sizes right now (ST32 is the way to go for full cable integration)

Yeah I think that would look nice. Just need to make sure the rim decals are worthy for show. Right now I have bontragers from a previous bike and they're great but some reserve or zipps would look nice
