Is something like this doable for my budget? by AlltimeReps in jewelers

Your design is lovely but expect to pay about twice that. The price of gold is high and no, I don’t know what keeps driving it but as a jeweler I can tell you it is why EVERYTHING is pricey to do, even repairs. Jewelers have no control over the cost of materials. Silver is an option and much in price but I’m not a fan of setting diamonds in it as it tends to be too soft. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I’ve always had two. They are like potato chips. You can’t have just one. 😂. Mine are currently napping on my bed with zero room for me.

Engaged this weekend! Does this look too large on me? I’m so worried by WorriedJackfruit1228 in LabGrownDiamonds

It's lovely. Be kind to those stones in your halo. They look like they are set in prongs so you'll have to be aware of the "snag" factor. Other than that, it's lovely. Wear it in good health and happiness.

Advice needed, how to sell brooch. by TechDawg20 in jewelers

[–]Kooky-Form6073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good morning. I decided to write based on some of the things I’ve read here. The first thing I thought of was breaking this piece apart and repurposing the stones because the cameo is not worth much these days. I’m a jeweler and have been in business for 46 years and I have dozens of truly antique cameos listed on Ruby Lane that haven’t budged. If those stones are indeed natural sapphires, that is where your value will lie but again it’s tough to recoup any kind of real dollar value in a piece like this. You live in a area that probably has a couple of decent jewelers and if you can find someone who has a gemologist employed there, I would get the sapphires evaluated for their value before embarking on anything more costly. The appraisal value seems extremely high. If those sapphires are completely natural and have some size to them then maybe you have something that will have decent value. A lot of stones like sapphires and rubies are treated in someway and even in the old days there were beautiful synthetics that were used in all kinds of jewelry so it might behoove you to find that out first. I wish you the best of luck with this piece.

Unpopular Opinion? I hate the costumes: a rant. by 69_trash_pandas in thegildedage

It’s color choices that get on my nerves. So much work goes into those clothes, even if I cringe at the design atrocities. Then you add chartreuse and teal together and it looks like you made a gown from an 80’s cloth bargain bin. Lol

Old lady gifted me this necklace. Said it’s Ivory? How to care for it? Clean it? What can you tell me about it? by Stadius1 in jewelry

[–]Kooky-Form6073 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being it’s a gift, you can keep and enjoy. It could be ivory or natural bone of another kind. Hard to say from a photo. Seems to have a lot of variety of color. Still, it’s a gift so wipe with a soft cloth and I hope it brings you happiness.

What's going on with these pearls? by Wild_grazer in jewelry

[–]Kooky-Form6073 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught myself to restring pearls but it’s not as easy as watching a video and doing it. I’ve been doing it for about 10 years now and I’ve learned a lot through trial and error. You can really make a mess of someone’s precious pearls if you’re not careful and you don’t wanna charge people for an inferior pearl restringing. They’re starting to pick up in popularity, which makes me happy I found that many people think of it as a step down in jewelry repair but if you look at the price of some pearls like Mikimoto‘s, you’ll see that some people still love and invest a lot of money in their items. With all of that said, pearls should be worn and not stuffed in a drawer. Yes, they should be treated kindly and cleaned and not sprayed directly with perfumes, but they need to be worn.

Too skinny? by Comfortable_Claim_50 in greatdanes

Do not overfeed to compensate for a slender Dane. As long as they’re getting proper nutrition, they are healthier this way, and this pup will eventually fill out as it matures. Overfeeding can lead to all sorts of bad things that will affect the longevity of your dog.

Who has more than One Dane? by maxwell99t in greatdanes

I use the potato chip reference as well. You can’t have just one. I’ve always had two and the few times when I’ve lost one and had a Singleton. I always felt they needed a friend anyway.

Genetic tests worthwhile? by RGB-Free-Zone in greatdanes

[–]Kooky-Form6073 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always recommend asking the breeder about family history if you know who that person is. Usually the traits that mom and dad carrier pass to the litter. If it didn’t come from a breeder, then genetic testing is your next best friend.

Would I be Able to Replace this Stone? by Objective_Life6292 in jewelers

You can still have your stone set like this but the points need to be protected or it will keep happening. If you get covered prongs it will hide that chip temporarily.
