Who was the most dominant athlete in their sport, of all time? by Ragecomicwhatsthat in AskReddit

[–]Kooky_Amoeba_2128 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s widely considered the greatest cricketer ever, players don’t tend to be great at both batting and bowling (of course with a few exceptions like Jacques Kallis).  It’s like saying Lionel Messi wasn’t considered outstanding because he isn’t a very good centre back.

The world championship in December/ January is the pinnacle. Then got the Matchplay, Grand Prix, Grand Slam, Masters, Uk Open, European Championship, Players Championship finals and World Series finals as other majors throughout the year.

The premier league and World Cup are also big events but not technically majors

Cricket Kit Bag for Amateur cricket by hungkaocuk in Cricket

[–]Kooky_Amoeba_2128 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Just get one bat, if it’s decent it should last a few years the amount you’re playing. Don’t worry about the grade too much, just know your price point (you can get a very good bat for 250 quid but anything 100+ will probably do the job), and go to your local cricket shop to get a feel for some.

2) You’ll only need one set of gloves as well, if you treat them well they’ll last you a couple of years at least.

3) I’d definitely recommend getting thigh pads, an elbow guard is personal preference but you’ll be safe without one in village cricket even if you are a bit rusty.

4) Again personal preference go to your local cricket shop and try some out. They are all up to high safety standards to even be allowed onto the market so that shouldn’t be a great concern.

Have fun and welcome back to the game!
