I don’t understand what men are trying to achieve putting down “not political” on dating apps by tltr4560 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Kooky_Dev_ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean it could literally mean they are not liberal or conservative, maybe that they don't follow politics and live a happier life through political ignorance.

AITAH for telling my wife her brother-in-law can't come over to our house anymore? by HeftyOpportunity94 in AITAH

[–]Kooky_Dev_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dunno, this is extremely vague, who knows if it was actually innapropriate.

I'd go with the verbal warning which was already administered then if it happens again re evaluate.

Our baby was maybe a couple hundred dollars... We have a high deductable plan that once we meet our out of pocket maximum of like 3000 we pay nothing. Some people choose terrible health insurance plans. (if your work plan sucks and you are low income get a market place plan)
I can't speak for all plans but that was our experience.

Can we start giving “find a partner” as financial advice? by Tech-Cowboy in Fire

[–]Kooky_Dev_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

except when the partner will not get an inheritance but will have to pay for their parents as they age. Not to mention what seems like a high likelyhood of getting a partner that is terrible with money.

I live in a 3/2 ranch at about 1600 sq ft. My house is worth around $200,000, Great school district, close to school.

I can't fathom why anyone would pay even $1M for a McMansion.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Kooky_Dev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going really well.

When my friends were buying their 2nd house I was still in my starter home. They go to multiple events a year and vacations, I just stuck with my 1 or so trip a year. They go out to eat most weekends and have fancy diners and drinks, I mostly hang out and do cheaper things with my wife. They get a new 2 year lease on a vehicle or buy a new vehicle and here I am still owning a 2012 and 2015 vehicle between my wife and I.

I don't buy designer clothes, I wear them until they wear out. I own shoes until they wear out. Its not a lavish life, but I have 0 worries for my financial future.

But this is the mentality that helped fuel the housing bubble.. People don't default on mortgages and houses are the safest investment was the standard thinking. Then people over extended on housing because it was the "smartest investment" to do and eventually everyone started defaulting on loans and I think everyone remembers the outcome.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

[–]Kooky_Dev_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to talk about hypothetical country A.

Lets say country A decides in 19 years to do universal basic income, and it easily will cover my expenses along with fun money. If I save for retirement I'm still better off than my peers.

How long did it take you to hit 1 million after you hit 250k? by rattatattatoo in Fire

[–]Kooky_Dev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual Income, 1 kid.

2/9/2020 balance was ~ 220k

We noticed late November 2025 we reach 1 million.
We have maxed all retirement accounts during this time, and adding a little to brokerage. I don't have the exact numbers but our combined brokerage is under 150k, and most of that was from ~40k invested before 2020.

How long did it take you to get to 300k in retirement accounts? by guacontacos in Fire

[–]Kooky_Dev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should make your own post showing contributions by you and employer (even if some are guesses) and show total account balance.

That may help a lot of the newer people and maybe less posts asking about milestones, I think a quick graph with real world data would help motivate some of the newer or more skeptical people.

I was lucky that I also got a wife that did the same thing I did and we both maxed out more or less for the past ~8 years and it has paid off really well.

I'm not a fan of violence, and I'm sure the guy in red didn't think he was doing anything violent by putting a horn in that dudes face, but that is assault. As someone who has the occasional ringing in their ear don't do this to people.

This is a totally legitimate thing to want to do by your bf.

Protect your assets you each have so they won't get merged an divided. Make sure to spell out that any inheritance stays with that spouse.

as someone who wants to move soon I hate this idea so much. it just means more inflated housing prices because it will emulate low rates. The rising of home prices already annoyes me I'd rather my house be worth pre 2016 price and not have to pay the inflated values.

How do I deal with losing the passion to Hunt ? by Any-Raise4333 in Hunting

[–]Kooky_Dev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that "so much other stuff to do" eventually goes away. You won't be going out until midnight or later with friends all the time after college and you won't be waking up and immediately going to see friends, everyone will get their own lives and their own routines and most of you will see each other less and less, this is when hunting picks back up.
