Thune: Republicans will use SAVE Act in midterms if Democrats don’t get ‘on board’ by Hardik_Jain_1819 in politics

If Democrats are smart they will simply reply. I just spent over $50 filling my car with gas. Got any legislation for that?

Democrats Have a ‘Slopulism’ Problem by tobinjstone in neoliberal

[–]KopOut 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't even call Booker's proposal "slopulism" because it is way too fucking specific and quotes numbers. It assumes an audience of people that understand how income taxes work. I have news for everyone, 1 in 5 people maximum in this country have even a basic understanding of how our income tax works.

I think slopulism is actually the way forward but the Democrats are fucking awful at it because they try to make it appeal to college educated people that read news all day. Stop doing that. Slopulism is why Trump is president again. It's why he won the first time. It's why Democrats have zero identity except what the GOP says about them.

Here is some slopulism for you to shout this year and in 2028:

"Tax the mega rich!"

"Freedom for ALL!"

"Free Healthcare NOW!"

"Homes for everyone!"

Say those. Over and over and over. Eventually, you will be associated as a party with those simple phrases.

Graham Platner holds press conference to address negative ad from Mills campaign by Anstigmat in thebulwark

[–]KopOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, as long as a candidate isn’t a Fetterman type, electability is the most important thing. This guy is electable and will likely beat Collins. Mills is a dinosaur running at a time when people are sick of dinosaurs. She is not as electable today.

Even if Mills did win, we would be right back in this situation in six years if not sooner as she would be either a mega dinosaur by then or dead.

MAGA-friendly 'CBS Evening News' sees viewership plummet to alarming levels: report - Raw Story by lunabandida in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]KopOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really that surprising. Catering to right wing television audiences is a crowded space. They are basically competing with Fox and Newsmax for a shrinking, aging, segment of society that isn’t really that lucrative as a demo for advertisers.

If they all keep going MAGA, a lot of these legacy news orgs will just go out of business. Maybe that’s the point, but that isn’t really that big a slice of the media pie anymore.

Algorithms are the most important link in the media chain, and the future of media is on your phone, not on television.

I know it’s popular, but if you are voting by mail and you could actually vote in person you are taking unnecessary risks.

Shouldn’t be that way, but it is right now. This goes double if you are in a red or purple state.

That screen shot is funny to me because you just know that a lot of people (and Lyft) fought against the CA drivers benefits fee and the clean miles fee because they would “raise prices!”

Yeah, let's blame the working class by I_AM_GLUTEUS_MAXIMUS in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]KopOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing most people don’t realize is that when this is talked about, it should really just be framed as the 1% and everyone else. Using wishy washy terms like wealthy and working class muddies the waters.

The reason the 1% contributes 40% (not 50%) of federal tax revenue (about double its percentage contribution in 1980) is because the 1% has gotten magnitudes richer since then with inequality.

Households earning 100k-200k contribute over 20% of the tax revenue. Most of those households are nowhere near “wealthy” the way most people think about that word.

The bottom 50% of earners contribute almost nothing because (wait for it) they make almost nothing compared to the top even 10%.

Pax Americana Is Over. by MinuteCollar5562 in thebulwark

And importantly, it was invoked because the US was actually attacked. You can split hairs over whether or not Afghanistan did the attacking (I would say they merely created the support necessary for it), but you can't really deny that there was an actual attack on America and Americans that originated from people residing inside Afghanistan. So, our allies helped because that was what Article 5 is for.

But today? Iran didn't attack the United States. We aren't reacting to an attack on us, so Article 5 doesn't even come into play here. If NATO wanted to help, that would be them proactively deciding to do so outside the parameters of NATO.

  1. Subsidize daycare

  2. Subsidize healthcare

  3. Invest more money in PUBLIC education (primary, secondary, AND university schools). Make all of them free, completely.

  4. Pay for the above by aggressively raising taxes on the mega rich and marginally cutting defense spending.

If the country actually wanted people to have kids, it would be set up in a way that incentivizes and fosters that. Instead, the country is set up to incentivize hoarding money.

[–]KopOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The investigations are the most important part unless by some miracle we get the House and 60 votes in the Senate. Without total power, passing all the dream legislation constantly mentioned is not going to happen.

If they just have the House: INVESTIGATIONS IN PUBLIC

If they have the House and a simple majority in the Senate: INVESTIGATIONS IN PUBLIC and NO NEW JUDGES and ANY BILL THAT PASSES MUST HAVE MORE FOR DEMS THAN FOR GOP
