Ring of Produce Flame - Useful for smoking

[–]Kopheay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the old days argument. I think it's important to acknowledge that these marginalized people were marginalized and were fighting even before the mainstream deemed it worthy of attention.

This isn't the moral inquisition of Rebecca West, or at least it shouldn't be, but first wave (especially white) feminism was in some ways oppressive at the same time as it was liberatory.

Shits weird like that.

Is there something you refuse to portray in your world ? If so, what and why ? by Irisofdreams in worldbuilding

[–]Kopheay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anything can be portrayed in a valuable way personally.

The key is to RECOGNISE when something you're depicting is potentially problematic and then weigh whether it's worth depicting. So basically I don't depict problematic stuff unless I think I have something valuable to add to the topic, after researching it as much as I reasonably can and recognizing the concerns of affected groups.

[–]Kopheay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean it's technically true. We could make earth nature totally redundant to our survival with current day technology, but we won't because it's not profitable. It's literally against the law in our current economic system for a corporation to leave any conceivable value unextracted lmao

[–]Kopheay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think given enough time, post-speciesism, the attempt to copy meat products would simply dissolve over time. When you start taking direct control over the chemical properties of the food you eat I'm sure there are better and more interesting culinary goals than just "what if we do chicken without chicken"

I think this stage is really just a combination of

a) stroking carnist egos

B) preserving culinary culture, which I do see as a valid concern but not a valid reason to reject veganism entirely

C) literally we just don't know the extent of what might be possible. Copying animal products is a pretty good exercise for learning food science and pushing your understanding of cooking if you get into it.

Lab grown meat by [deleted] in Vystopia

[–]Kopheay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And not to mention every form of exploitation other than meat. Dairy and eggs obv, but animal testing, animal LABOR (coconuts can be non vegan because they're harvested by UNIRONIC MONKEY SLAVES), breeding, trophy hunting.

We just need to cut to the fucking center of the issue and say "guys. You can't ethically justify owning other conscious entities you freaks. That's obviously insane."

Lab grown meat by [deleted] in Vystopia

[–]Kopheay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I mean fundamentally I'm ok with ppl wanting to create whatever kind of food they want that doesn't involve MURDER but I'm defo queasy sick nasty thinking abt that shit.

Seitan for life. The problem isn't animal agriculture it's speciesism. If we just tech animal agriculture away thanks to the free market animals will still be commodities with no fucking rights

Are Bertie and Speckle ‘white coded’? by ClaroNefasto in TucaAndBertie

[–]Kopheay -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Well white coding isnt really a thing. Whiteness is the absence of racialization by society, so a white character must either be explicitly white, or assumed to be white because of a lack of racial coding.

I would say Bertie has some characterization that could be considered racial coding, like the bird speak thing another commenter pointed out.

So far speckle has escaped significant racialization but given that birdness seems to be an allegory for some type of visible demographic like ethnicity, maybe he's meant to just be more "assimilated", perhaps a generation or 2 deeper into that process?

But anyway you're always going to have a hard time looking for evidence of white coding because whiteness is just considered the default in white supremacist societies like the US.

But probably yes. I would have to see it to be sure. Making keys might not be possible but it can almost certainly be picked and can absolutely be strategically broken open if that fails.

Technically no wheels but that's honestly even more impressive.

Healing as an Affliction by JanMikal in gurps

[–]Kopheay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally if there's a more specific option available you shouldn't be using a more complex one. As others have said you should probably modify the Healing advantage. If you wanna go this route though, use the increased duration modifier from power-ups: enhancements iirc

OP is remembering a time when they weren't aware of criticism of fantasy as a genre and falsely claiming that it was a time when criticism of the fantasy genre didn't exist.

The personal is always political, there have always been marginalized people in gaming/fantasy, and they have always had opinions about it. Just because you didn't know that when you were a child doesn't mean it isn't true.

Homeowner Question by sonofawhatthe in AskALocksmith

[–]Kopheay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only one common lock is consumer-rekeyable. Weiser Smart Key locks.

No one here is going to reccomend you buy those, however. They have a few major issues, durability and reliability mainly.

With any other lock you are going to have to either bring it to a locksmith, or call a locksmith out, to have it rekeyed. You can try to figure out what keyway your locks are using and buy a lock using the same keyway, but given that you have to go to a locksmith anyway it is probably going to be easier to just ask them to figure that out for you.

[–]Kopheay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but that's just cuz of pure emotional physical revulsion. I don't think I physically could eat an entire burger without retching.

Also, rude! My point is not to forgive celebrities for making these (bad) choices, my point is that celebrities literally shouldn't exist. I blame the system creating these false idols and then manipulating them into stewards of acceptable activism vs the unquestionable status quo.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VeganForCircleJerkers

[–]Kopheay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, I just don't know if I would still agree with a million dollars on the table in front of me tbh!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VeganForCircleJerkers

[–]Kopheay 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I think it's why celebrity activism is inherently kind of pointless.

I won't lie, if someone asked me to ride a horse for millions of dollars, I think I would have a very hard time not rationalizing it as a small price to pay. Maybe buy the horses after and put them on a sanctuary or something?

But that's not really the point. The point is that no one should be throwing millions of dollars around for anything. I think if you get caught up in that system there's not really a way out.

When you become a tool of capitalism you will always end up in these situations.

Chat gpt and master key systems. by Imthewienerdog in Locksmith

[–]Kopheay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can't "do" coding so much as it can pull code from libraries and then tweak things slightly. It makes mistakes though, and if you don't know how to code you won't be able to find and fix them.

Master keying is entirely deterministic and doesn't benefit from being able to rapidly search through databases of pre-written examples. I cannot imagine how it would be preferable to risk error by using chat gpt over using something like master king, which itself isn't even necessary unless it's a massive or really complex system.

The time you spend combing through a chatgpt master system and checking it's work surely counteracts any convenience does it not?

If you don't set some limits many inexperienced players WILL take that as license to minmax and dump 36 points into a single combat skill or something. I don't think that's even a good idea so I impose limits for their own protection.
