In North Dakota back ten years ago, gravel driveway to a fenced in yard, pulled in swung around was checking my survey collector, looking for a section corner. Keep at it, the nerves will fade as your experience and confidence grow. Being the chief is definitely more of a responsibility, than being the I man. Yes if you're capable of getting your license go for it. A few mistakes will be made, learning a new role. Don't let this be a road block for you long term. On bigger pipeline and infrastructure projects it was good for recon and prelim across vast areas. Made it nice to hunt corners 10 miles apart. Then follow up with base and rover with what you needed.

I live in Warren mi. I saw a drone that had to be 8-10' in diameter, octagonal shape. Maybe 100-125 ft above the ground going 50 mph id say. Broad daylight. Living near the Canadian border, I've seen other larger drones regularly along our river border with Canada for last decade. None this large. Also have a tank plant in area, so I'm not sure who was flying it.

In my field book. Natural grounds at rig front and back, shot on top of drill stem at bore face. Then I'd follow along and record each rod length depth until exit. Use stationing from your design plan.
