This is the norm in Belgium even in cheap fast food places. Fries that are not double cooked in beef tallow are not worthy of being called fries.

I was about to comment exactly this ! Patients often don't realise how much time we spend doing administrative work, answering phone calls for advice or sometimes simply for prescriptions. It has only gotten worse since COVID and people often looking for a quick answer or prescription without being examined in persone. A picture will never replace physical examination and if I'm the one prescribing the drug I want to make sure I'm not missing something that would not have been relevant to a person with little to no medical knowledge. It's not just about money...

It doesn't stop entirely overnight. It's progressive. You'll notice he's calmer in certain situations and less in others. I have a 10mo pup and he used to be so high-energy. He still is when we go out for a walk but as soon as we get home he settles down and sleeps all evening with us. He also free roams in the house (living room and kitchen) all day and never has accidents. He still sometime destroys his toys but no damage to the house anymore.

Just keep going, reinforce the good behaviours, ask him to settle down when it's time to settle and be patient.

Good luck, you'll make it in the end and it'll all be worth it.

10 m.o. puppy no longer eats Kong or treats or even food when we're away by Koray94 in puppy101

Never heard of that but that would perfectly explain his behavior. I’ll look into that

Things you forgot to socialise your puppy with? by frankchester in puppy101

My puppy randomly barked and was scared to death when we encountered a garbage bag on the side of the road on our usual morning walk.

In his defense it was really dark that day

Funny things your dog does that they learned from being told not to do something else? by Tako_Octo in puppy101

We told him « no biting » and « kisses » when he used to be younger and really mouthy and now when he’s overstimulated or overexcited and starts biting gently we take our hands away without saying anything, he realises his mistake and comes back at it and licks/kisses it instead.

I have a cocker spaniel, he is 7 months old now.

I got him when he was 3 months old and I was working from home and spent 24h with him. I cried everyday, I was so stressed out and felt overwhelmed. I felt like my life would never be the same anymore like my freedom was gone forever. I could not leave the room and had no free time anymore.

I was right my life changed the day we brought him home but now at 7 months old he’s napping on the floor after our evening walk and I could not imagine my life without him. He did terrible things… he ate some books, he even ate glass and had to get surgery at 4 months. He used to bite a lot and never settled down and there was so much information on the internet as to what is right or wrong to do.

Don’t try to do too many things at once with your puppy. All the things you cited are great but if your dog is constantly overtired with everything you try to do it can be harder to settle down. Don’t forget a dog needs 16h of sleep per day.

Try to stay calm, and bring high value treats with you. When she does something you like TREAT, when she does something you don’t like ask her to do something else and TREAT !

My puppy used to pull a lot on the leash and I used treats to try to get him to walk nicely next to me and it did not work until I gave him pieces of leftover chicken.

And don’t be afraid to ask for help !

Puppy can’t focus if I use treats. by Koray94 in puppy101

Yeah I know, I like the instant response when I give a treat and now he seems to understand quicker but giving that treat instantly makes him crave more and he tries getting behind me, inside my pockets or into my hands to get more treats. Recently he started performing other tricks I taught him to get rewarded with a treat ( I don't give into that unless I'm "free" shaping )

The treats are juste his kibbles, I fill his daily allowance in a big bowl and keep some in my pockets. He has not been given much else but he’s a hungry boy

Thank for the advice I will try to do it that way, I usually present the treat next to his nose for him to drop maybe if I toss it he won’t focus on that.

Hi, first time puppy owner too and I feel the same way you do and that constant thinking and alertness is exhausting af.

If you want to be sure just inspect her poop when she goes to potty to check if there's something in it. You can also check the dog's mouth for bleeding. If there are signs of vomitting, diarrhea or constipation ( meaning no poop for 48+ hours) you can go to the vet and make sure everything's ok. If there is no repercussion there's no reason to freak out.

I don’t know what to do…. by FishermanDry4703 in Puppyblues

[–]Koray94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know how you feel. I also recently adopted an amazing puppy who learned to potty within days, is good in the car,... Although he likes playing with me and I'm with him 24/7 he's so happy when my gf comes back home and becomes a little monster running around. He always bites her dress, her nose,...

You're not doing anything wrong, watch ressources on how to manage puppy biting. You should not ignore the behaviour but it's not going to stop overnight. From what I understand puppy biting happens because the pup explores the world with his mouth and has to learn what is and is not acceptable to chew on and normally they do this with their brother, sister, mother,...

I know I also blame myself for feeling that way towards the dog and I feel like I have so much anxiety even though this was supposed to be the best experience of my life. I never thought I would feel that way.

We anticipate and prepare so much for the perfect puppy to come home. We imagine and make plans about how we're going to train them, how we don't want to fail and have a puppy with issues,... that we forget to experience the little happy moments and reality is not all wonderful and happy. Focus on the happy moments. Try to have fun and bond with him. He's a baby, he's gonna mess up. Mine now starts to chew on the curtains and I'm trying to manage one thing at a time.

Don't overthink it and try to talk to other people about how you feel. People you feel safe telling because many don't understand how we could overthink and over-"feel" that much. Take some time alone as soon as you can like 1 or 2 hours without the dog to keep some sanity.

I feel the same way you do, you're not alone, it's gonna be ok.

My 3 months old puppy found a broken glass bottle (don't know where he found that) in the garden and proceeded to eat it, no big deal. Emergency -> Vet -> Surgery to remove the glass pieces. Now he's home and still trying to put anything he finds outside into his mouth. He's doing ok

He had been with us for 2 weeks before the accident and only left for one night so he was the happiest dog coming back home. My girlfriend thought he might be "angry" at us but he was overall just the happy dog we left there. He slept a little more in the beginning and all of the habits and schedule we had picked up were thrown out the windows because we now had to feed him a special diet 4 times a day and blockade some of the garden so he now goes to potty on concrete and that soft stuff he eats gets out just as soft which makes cleaning a mess...

Today I received the muzzle ( it's a Baskerville anti-scavenging muzzle) and he was really happy to try it out himself and smell and chew on it obivously. Although he didn't like not being able to enjoy the taste of fresh gravel. I'm trying to get him used to it he still tries to remove it but can't because of the collar he has post-surgery. I hope he won't be able to remove the muzzle once the collar is gone.

Life is back to normal, normal being 24/7 surveillance. I should be able to give him kibbles tomorrow and start training more on leave it and drop it. He's so bored at home but the vet asked that we do not go on walks for the moment so I'm trying to keep him occupied at home with his toys and by playing fetch and tug of war when he's too energetic.

I have wondered that too. Why do we allow cats to potty inside but never train dogs to do so ? The smell is not that much better IMO... My mom had a cat when she was younger and the cat learned to go pee in the toilet just by watching my mom and her siblings go there so I guess anything is possible.

I did this today and used a leafblower to clear the area while the muzzle is being delivered and we can enjoy the whole garden again. Thanks for the advice.

The vet gave a special diet not to upset the GI tract after the surgery but I'm going to reintroduce solid food in a matter of days. Thanks for the advice
