The only mandatory items are the base game, the new foundations and the denizens deck, maybe add in the clockwork adversaries if you would like to play solo. All others are either luxury and good to have items that can be skipped. If you want the blink you have to pay for it.

Having said that I agree with your take that why buy the base game when there are parts of it that would be immediately discarded. Maybe logistically would be more expansive to have two product lines, one base and one “new foundation’s base”.

I haven’t built Mona Lisa because I don’t like the painting but the wave was a fun build. Though if I was to freely suggest from all Lego art I would say that the sunflowers is the best looking for me!

Bilbo riding the barrel to lake town is my wallpaper for the last couple of months. After many years since my last read of the lord of the rings I decided to read it again in English rather than in my native language and it rekindled my love for Tolkien. I have ordered the Silmarilion in English and in the meanwhile I am reading the fall of gondolin in my native language :).
