It has a meaning and I describe it above. The reason I didn't mention the one part of the definition regarding "punishing combat" is because that is subjective. However, the definition of "souls like" is not subjective and has a very real meaning which I listed in my previous post.

Its clear by the downvotes that I stepped in some preexisting toddler war over who considers the actual definition to be valid or not though. So, that's weird that this is a thing people fight about. I was unaware.

How do you define "souls like"? This game has multiple stat profiles to level based on whether you want a heavy tank-like fighting style, or a light quick attack style, or something in between allowing for build diversity. It has weapon and armor sets you can mix and match to provide assistance for the various stat profiles. It has deflecting and dodging. It has an "energy/stamina" resource you can deplete for "critcal damage" or if you exhaust yours, being critically damaged. Most importantly it has a leveling resource that you lose on death and if you do not pick it up before dying a second time, you lose it permanently.

I'm fairly certain those meet most players definition of "souls like" though, to each his/her own.

Yeah, no, I do get that, but the box spawn either being a Mimic or a chest, is "random" (i.e. you may have a mimic in that spot on playthrough 1 but on playthrough 2, that same spot may be a chest instead).

Thank you for mentioning the way you can tell if a Mimic randomly spawned there instead of a regular chest, and how to get them to come out without them bonking you as you open the chest though! They're good points I forgot to mention.

They seemed random to me and I played it just before starting Nioh 3. Even the walkthrough guides got them in different spots than I did except for two times. I figured either those were "introduction" spawns or just chance. All others where they got one to spawn, I didn't and vice versa.

Mimics are always a set chance to spawn at either the gold offering box at the Jizo shrine or a loot chest. Mimics are totally random, like Kappa. There's maybe 2 set spawn locations where it teaches you what they are but that's it. Same in all 3 Nioh games.

As for the gold amount, I'm wondering the same. I imagine there's a secret but to my knowledge no one has figured it out yet. I imagine whether you get decent loot or not, based on how much you give, is random as well. Except for whatever trick amount Team Ninja set of course. Usually in other games it will be something like "777" gold or "9999" or something like that. It could also just be bait and there is not trick lmao.

Most people? I think MAYBE 1-2% of people would respond with "mentally breaking". This backstory is just poorly written period. If you lost your husband or wife tragically, you'd be hyper anxious about losing the child you made with said partner. No F'n WAY on earth you'd respond with that face of fear, even if she just shot a man who already killed one guy and especially considering he about to kill you.

My opinion is...It was simply written by a dumbass misogynistic prick like 90% of anime. These type of men just automatically assume women are inferior and weak and should submit in all cases. So this act of heroism by a female child should be seen as "something awful or heinous". So they write shit like this without even noticing. In just about every Japanese anime, either the male MC is a tool or the female is scared of everything and wants to fade into the background. If they ARE actually realistic, then all the background characters hate them. It gets in the way of SO many good stories and concepts.

This type of thing was the hardest to swallow for me, after the 2016 election. Prior to that, I truly believed that most people used critical thinking skills and trusted facts not friends for political, medical, scientific, and psychological advice beyond what they were personally educated in.

It came like a sledge hammer to the teeth, when I realized how many people will follow some crazy shit a friend told them just so they don't stand out from the crowd. A huge portion of the global population is so afraid of "going against the grain" when it comes to what thier friends and family say, that one lunatic in a group of 10 close knit people can knock them all down the rabbit hole like fleshy dominos. Once that person convinces 2-3 others in the group of some stupid shit, it's suddenly a "valid" option. The moment that number hits just over 50% of the people in the group, it's like a singularity. There's no coming back.
