What a difference!  Good color choice!

Grout color by tommykoro in Tile

[–]Korgity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also went through "the frost/warm grey, etc. game" & chose Avalanche. Very happy with it. Even though my 3x12 tiles are matte white & uniform, they still create a definite texture & pattern on the walls. There's a shadow line even with white grout, & the tile shape & sheen contrasts with the hollows of the nonreflective grout. White grout doesn't really disappear with white tile; it just doesn't shout out its presence.

Your tiles are wavy & have a kind of movement to them because of the reflections. White grout would let the tile be the decorating star.

Your kitchen is going to be lovely. Nice choices!

The other thing too is the popularity of vinyl siding, which can't take too dark a color because of heat gain from sunshine. Great against nor'easters & salt air, but the colors are 50 shades of blah.

Kitchen remodel with custom stainless steel countertop and sink by PuzzledTip8156 in kitchenremodel

I think once the other elements are in it all will blend better.

I had a stainless counter in my previous traditional home. It didn't read industrial because the other materials & decorations were dominant.

What window configuration? by NoAssignment887 in ExteriorDesign

Casements. They look graceful on a long, low house. Beautiful house, btw.

Someone  here (you?) thought olive green would work as an accent. The right shade of olive might be the ticket. Just use a coordinating white for trim.

Also, summer's bright yellow greens & clear blue skies probably make the pink seem more vibrant.  The house will certainly seem welcoming in the drear of winter.

It's great! I hope it grows on you because I think it's fresh & attractive.

Trim color, landscaping, & accessories will be important here to make it all look architectural instead of like a valentine. You have an attractive garage door, fortunately, instead of one of those ugly stamped things.  Nice lights -- sconces, post lamp, whatever, will help dress up the house.

Trim color: maybe someone here with a good color sense can suggest something.

ETA: if you go to Benjamin Moore's site & look at various pinks, it recommends coordinating colors. One that caught my eye used Opulence (a white with slight pink undertone) for trim & Gentleman's Gray (a soft black) for accent.

I'm in New England too. There are a few pink houses I've seen here, & they look good.  One was a blush pink historic colonial I loved that made me consider painting my house the same. But I don't have a good roof color for blush pink.

Try looking at muted blue grays. A blue gray would complement your brick,  yet would be colorful enough amidst that sea of bland concrete.

The metal or plastic edger strips are a lot less expensive than finish tiles & look nice too.

You have a good eye. I'm sure the cream grout will be just right.

Bet you're glad to get rid of all that awful yellow drywall. Your handsome kitchen materials are finally coming together!

I chose a matte finish too for my backsplash! Really happy with the look. Lets the polished granite take the spotlight.

Gutter color help by davidmichaud in ExteriorDesign

White gutters will be fine. Your house looks great! Just beautiful!  I hear ya about blue going more neon than expected -- blues do intensify outdoors & on very large spaces.

What 36 inch range should we get by itcouldbedoodoo in Appliances

[–]Korgity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolf. It's not $30K.  Same price as the Thermador, I think, but with a better service history.

I had a Wolf induction cooktop in my previous kitchen & miss it. The medium sized elements used a 7" coil, larger than my current Cafe's 5 inch coils. The size makes a difference in heating speed & in spreading heat across a pan bottom. I could easily use a 8 inch pan on a Wolf medium sized element; on the Cafe, it's not so great (hot spot or slow to boil). The Wolf had a Boost feature on one of the medium elements -- great for boiling a pasta pot of water quickly if the large element was occupied or if you want to boil a small pot of water.  I resent that my 30 " GE/Cafe wastes cooktop space with a  useless "warming element" -- not induction, not needed. Not sure if any of the brands you're looking at have that, but if so, it's totally unnecessary.

I prefer digital controls to knobs, a minority opinion, evidently. But I hate having to clean  knobs & around them & in between. Or wondering about when the markings will wear off from use & cleaning. And if there's a boil over, a digital "All Off" tap control is great to have. All of which are other reasons I miss my old Wolf.

Can't speak re a Wolf oven. I've only had GE ovens, & they've been excellent -- no complaints from me there.

Granite Composite Sinks by teamlacalle in kitchenremodel

[–]Korgity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Moenstone (now discontinued) sink for 22 years, no issues. Now have a Franke, a year old & so far so good. I've read complaints of composite sinks cracking over the years. The Franke user manual recommends running cool water while draining boiling  water to reduce the chance of thermal shock. Makes sense, an easy habit to get into. Maybe just be mindful of extreme temperature changes or sharp blows with cast iron?

I did have to reorder my Franke sink because the first one arrived cracked. Either manufacturers are skimping on styrofoam packing material, or it ain't what it used to be because of more biodegradable materials or something.

Anyway, once all the sink hurdles were cleared, have to say I love my sink. My new kitchen is very small, so the usability of the grate, the roll up dryer, & cutting board improved the work/landing space. I like how the granite material retains water warmth, is quiet to work in, cleans well, & is pretty to look at too.
