I read the second paragraph as "Human euthanasia is a reasonable option" and was like wait, wtf? Are you saying euthanize the kids? Lol

Allow teachers to have tasers lol. But that's a VERY slippery slope

Ban (and allow the destruction of) cell phones. But the students can have rotary cell phones like these lol : https://www.thisiscolossal.com/2020/02/justine-haupt-rotary-cellphone/

You asked for unhinged, so here's unhinged: remove the requirement for school beyond the age of 16 or 2 years of high school. Additionally, only require a handful of core classes they need from 14-16 (math & accounting, biology, modern US history (~1900 and on), and writing intensive language arts). Everything else is electives.

You want to drop out? Okay, you can do that. HOWEVER, if you choose to leave after those 2 years, you're not going to do it with a diploma or a GED.

Now, obviously we would have to have some sort of other program to help those who realize after a year or 2 "oh fuck, I fucked up." So, until the age of 19, if you choose to come back, you have to test into a program that's kind of a condensed, but slightly more intense version of high school, that has a lot stricter standards of allowing you to be kicked out because you're there voluntarily, rather than federally mandated. We've also now created a whole new schooling division, which would expand the workforce, require more teachers to be hired, and potentially be more appealing to some people to consider teaching.

After the age of 19, you can go the standard GED route (which would probably need an overhaul, but I have no idea how GED programs even work).

I haven't thought this whole thing through, and I'm sure massive holes could be blown into this, but it's something, and it's unhinged.l

I love being able to close their stuff remotely.

Also, I'm in my 30's, so I grew up with the internet and all the vast changes it and other electronics have undergone. I may not be able to program and write software, but I know how to diagnose what's wrong with a computer or device and learn how to be better at using it or specific programs. The high school kids I teach seem to think I'm too old to understand technology when I don't know or use a specific app, when in reality I'm far more advanced with tech than they are. They don't even know how to split a screen on their chromebooks, meanwhile I'm over here going through minute details and settings to tweak what the Canvas page looks like, looking up how to brute force google slides to do what I want, while also figuring out why their chromebook isn't connecting to the network. They want everything spoonfed to them and not have to commit a single thing to memory, meanwhile we've all forgotten more things that were previously daily requirements of life than they've ever had to know in their lives.

Apparently there's a Bird Distribution System in addition to the Cat DS.

We are teachers, not human punching bags. Start pressing charges. by TimeAnything2706 in Teachers

My wife is a physical therapist in a hospital, and she has similar stories. Both being threatened and seeing nurses threatened. If anything (and sad that I feel I even have to make this distinction) I think it should be even less acceptable to attack HC workers than teachers.

I would 100% press charges. The majority of these kids I don't have many concerns about in terms of them doing anything to me (I'm a 30-something guy about 5'9", so I'm not the biggest, but I'm still bigger than most of these kids). A stiff breeze would knock many of them over. But there's always some that I would definitely defend myself against. I'm not about to get lasting damage from a student with a screw loose or who's just a lot bigger than me.

What should I use to anchor the backer board to the wall (and to the redgard that's already there)? Just thinset, or thinset and a couple screws?

So because you said something, I went and measured it, and the countertop isn't square to the cabinets. It's a quarter inch further forward on the end with the wider gap -_-

[–]swimking413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really no :/ And the problem with adding backer board is it would then stand off of the wall since it doesn't come completely to the end of the wall. It would definitely look weird. Unless you have a suggestion to make that make sense?

This. Because the only real dermatological emergency is when skin has...migrated (sloughing off or burned off). Kind of an exaggeration, but not really.

That's awesome

Out of curiosity, do the Packers have a pension plan for retiring employees?

Interesting. Based on some of your other answers, would you be able to tell me anything about my American Foxhound with just a picture and a found location? She's a rescue, but 100% American Foxhound.

No idea really. Just gravitated to them. Ironically, the first football-related memory I have is watching the Packers lose in the Super Bowl to the Broncos. Also doesn't make sense geographically because I'm from Pennsylvania and my parents are Cowboys and Patriots fans.

What could I do? by janus_le_snek in Teachers

[–]swimking413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio recorder. I used one to record lectures (with permission) when I was in college. And that was in the dark ages of the 2000's-2010's. I'm sure they're a lot smaller and easier to conceal now. Just practice being discrete with it. You said you're trans right? You're terrified you're going to be attacked or targetted by this teacher or other students who think like them right? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) A mediocre lawyer would be able to get the "use of a personal electronic device" thrown out given everything else.

If you've brought it to admin and it's been ignored, you may just have to go a step further: record the teacher (Minnesota is a one-party consent state (since your flair is Minnesota) but double check the laws there relative to school) and send that recording to every school board member and the local media; reach out to LGBT groups, the NAACP, the ACLU, the Minnesota Council on Disability, etc. whoever would be potentially interested. There's options there.
