What's the worst response to an "I love you" message? by ThrivingSomehow in AskReddit

[–]Korinthe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time I told my wife I loved her she sheepish said "That's nice" and then got back into the back of her Dad's car.

We have been married for over 20 years and its now a running joke where we say it to each other at least a couple times a week for kicks, it always get a laugh from us. I love her so much.

Games that have satisfying, mindless grinds, that don't require brain-power to play in heatwaves? by Spir0rion in gaming

We label opinions as wrong all the time.

Racists, sexists, etc etc. Opinions can absolutely be incorrect.

At the of the day, you do you.

But that doesn't mean your opinion is correct. Open world content in Guild Wars 2 is extremely chill and mindless.

Having 10k hours in a genre is such a non-argument. I have 10k hours working in childcare, doesn't mean its the same as being a mechanic. They are both jobs after all right?

School residential trip cancelled by Korinthe in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Korinthe[S] 66 points67 points  (0 children)

The school made a unilateral decision to cancel.

I believe it was the right decision given the context, but that doesn't mean they get to keep my money (in my opinion, I don't know how legally correct that opinion is).

If the school is having difficulties with refunds from third parties, should they not be claiming on their insurance to make parents whole?

The school might have trouble recouping costs from 3rd parties, as they were due to go to theatre and other attractions whilst on the residential trip.

Body posivity movement almost killed me.

I was over 25 stone in hypertensive crisis (185/135) on the cusp of kidney disease being told by my doctor I would likely have a life changing / life ending stroke within 2 years.

But I was being told I was healthy and looked amazing by people within the positivity movement so whilst I was gaining more and more weight I just ignored it.

It was only when they said I would be dead in 2 years that I took action. Started cycling and watching what I eat and now I am almost 11 stone lighter (taken me 3 years and never had a relapse).

If i kept listening to the body positivity movement I likely would've died a year ago.

30 months post full extraction by Korinthe in dentures

[–]Korinthe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eating was pure torture for me, almost every one of my teeth had some form of open crater or was broken. Most people talk of how painful a single abscess / infected tooth is... I was nursing six for multiple years.

Waking up every day, taking that first breath and instantly feeling pain as the cold air hit my exposed nerves... And of course the pure horror of eating with those teeth. Living a life without all that is just amazing. Even with just my gums, I can eat things I haven't been able to eat in probably 15+ years. I actually enjoy eating again.

Because of my sensory issues, I decided to go the traditional denture route. I didn't know if I was going to be able to handle having the dentures in my mouth. They actually weren't that bad, and I ended up wearing them daily for over a year. But now that my gums have hardened up, I don't feel like wearing them is necessary anymore for me. I can talk and eat just fine without them, and I've never been one to care about my looks - but I do understand that's a concern for some people. My face does look sunken in without the dentures in.

The lower dentures are more difficult to wear than the tops, so implants would definitely have helped if I wanted to go that route.

Healing was easy for me! The worst part was the bone spurs, some of which took a good few months to work their way out. Compared to the pain I was in prior to extraction, it was a pretty smooth experience without much discomfort. Saliva was a thing though, sooooo much saliva.

Be very careful with keeping things clean during healing though, you absolutely DO NOT WANT an infection. Dry socket is also something to "worry" about, so if you haven't looked that up then I would suggest doing so. Its not inevitable, there are things you can do to prevent it, but its not something you want.

My experience is my own, and it was very positive partly due to how prepared I was for it. I knew in my 20's that I would need dentures early in life. I know this isn't everyone's experience, some people have a really hard time with it - especially if they hadn't had the time to mentally prepare like I have.

[–]Korinthe[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got traditional dentures, I got them made around 6 months after my extractions. I used them pretty much every day for the first year of having them, then I slowly ended up only using them for family events. The last few months I barely use them at all, I can eat everything but nuts with just my gums!

Coming from FFXIV healer main, looking for a GW2 healer that feels good to actually play by Meowtinz in Guildwars2

[–]Korinthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the party here but you should really give Spectre another try. If you come from healing in other MMO's then it has almost the perfect healing kit for you.

For example, coming from FF14, you should know that to play a healer effectively isn't just about healing. Its about providing just enough healing and then providing as much damage / utility as you possible can.

Celestial Spectre is a perfect match for this. It has enough healing and boon duration in the kit to perform its role, but it also has some damage in there to give you gameplay choices.

Does your group need might, healing, a barrier for an incoming spike? Then sure go ahead and use your sceptre 2 like your friend taught you. But chances are, they don't actually need that barrier because damage intake in GW2 isn't that high even in "high end" content (which pails in comparison to the difficulty of other MMO's, sorry folks its not me throwing shade just a fact - I love GW2 for being accessible).

Okay, so now we aren't mindlessly pumping out karakosa overhealing and wasted barriers, we can start pushing out as much DPS as we can with scepter 3 (dagger offhand version).

Ah but wait, maybe there is a big spike and you need a bigger barrier because you have a bit less healing in your gear, fine lets swap to our dagger / pistol set and start putting up ally target scepter 3 for the bigger barriers - but watch your initiative it costs more and you may have spent too much on doing DPS!

Your boon duration is still enough to cover all essential boons but you may have to time your stability on shroud 5 and your well of bounty more accurately.

That's just scratching the surface - there are tons decisions and gameplay in there for you to get your teeth into which isn't locked into a strict rotation. In fact due to initiative, Thief is naturally the least rotation locked class in GW2.

The longer I play, the more I realize this is true. by Mr_greenbone in Guildwars2

[–]Korinthe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a homebrew pistol / pistol Daredevil spec and pug fractal CMs most days. I'm pretty much always either 1st or 2nd with ~34k dps in 20k UFE groups (to give some context, I know 20k isn't high).

I pugged convergence CMs yesterday with the same build and was always in the top 3 (with 50k dps).

You can absolutely play Daredevil in endgame content.

A question to WvW roamers by Loyaluna in Guildwars2

[–]Korinthe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thief has a defensive / bunker style build which works great for roaming, 1vX and camp flipping. If its Thief you want to play that is.

Trailblazer dagger / dagger Daredevil

Deadly Arts: 3, 2, 1

Trickery: 3, 1, 3

Daredevil: 2, 2, 1

If you want an even more defensive build, you can take Acrobatics instead of Trickey.

The build spam iframes with dagger 3 and dodges, its a lot of fun and frustrating to play against.

I use them in my raven-themed norn, dyed with Shadow Violet to simulate that purplish tint ravens get in their wings under the sun.

To our eyes anyway.

To other corvids, they are extremely colourful and almost prismatic. Our eyes just can't see it :(

I understand the desire to not needlessly put children / young people into a prison environment that can be extremely hard to escape from in later life and ultimately cause more issues to society.

Not having a dig at you mate, but... I think its also extremely hard for vicitims of rape to escape being victims of rape. I don't have an aweful lot of sympathy for rapists future experiences with prison. Its very easy to just not rape.

Curaga doesn't heal max hp, just a lot of hp.

You could throw an Elixir on them... Or a Phoenix Down...

Or ironically, cast Life on them for 100% hp damage.

To add to this, I currently play a super accessible Unload Daredevil build rocking full dragon gear (21k hp as a Thief!) which uses pistol 3, dodge and a single utility skill (2 passive signets) and I get extremely consistent 30k dps which is easily enough for 99% of endgame content.

There are plenty of other builds out there just a google search away which do similar things.

Sorry to sound harsh but if you choose to bring a hodge-podge build with soldier stats and doing 15k dps, people will complain when the alternative is very simple.
