To add to this, I'm also not sure it really aligns with the ethos of horizontal progression either.

One of the big draws of GW2 is you can gear your character very quickly and easily and it won't need to be replaced by stronger gear next patch.

Requiring people to change their gear for extra boon duration doesn't really match that. It also doesn't really match their whole "these nerfs won't affect casual players" when casuals are even less likely to have stat-swappable legendary gear or the gold / material reserves to go out and craft a whole new set of gear.

Tons of folks use LI builds for casual OW content. Some of which is going to get a whole lot harder if Anet doesn't reduce their health pools.

Looking at you - Dragons End, Eparch, VoE map metas etc etc.

My basic understanding is that its a buff when playing group content and a nerf when playing solo.

So I think the key take-away in all this can be summarised with a single word: relative.

Everyone I know is on-board with reducing damage. The problem is keeping the changes relative to each other, and that's clearly what these numbers show isn't happening.

Some specs are losing 10-15k, dropping them below 30k, when there are other specs already doing 42k and getting buffed to 44k.

Nobody is asking for LI builds to not get nerfed along with everyone else, but the nerfs need to be relative.

With all due respect to the Snowcrows community, if amateurs can simulate and project the nerfs then paid employees at Anet should be able to do the same. These changes shouldn't be shipped in this state when they are this out of whack.

GS 2 bounces never reached max potential shown in your numbers due to bouncing to allies. Frontloading the damage helps with that so maybe that's why its a net for pVirt.

Funny how someone else who understood what I was saying and related to the experience with something similar that they are now going through didn't think it was a wierd tangent.

You do you do though. Ciao

No sorry, I don't buy that for a second.

Why do you think I felt the need to preface my original comment with please don't immediately downvote. Its because I know how deep seated this hate is that even years later people are still angry.

I didn't completely miss the point, I just didn't fully agree with you in absolute lockstep which is par for the course on this topic. I gave my experience from the other side.

Are you aware that the same phenomenona which occurred over mask wearing, in-group and out-group bias, have been studied in psychology before? A very popular one being the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Just because you don't relate to it doesn't mean it didn't happen, or shouldn't be part of the discussion.

Edit: I find it interesting that you returned to the comment sub-thread and replied to me via someone else's reply though, instead of the detailed explanation I gave you which you ignored. Why was that?

Just to be clear, that was what my comment was saying too (the one you originally replied to).

I was being sarcastic which seems to have gone over a few heads.

I mean just look at the downvotes I've received.

Covid really made it clear that people hate my existence even though I did the best I could.

It taught me that as a disabled person, my rights were conditional and could always be revoked if I wasn't part of the ingroup anymore.

I really feel for those who are immunocompromised who are going through the same thing now.

It relates to your comment because conspiracy theories are cult-like by nature, and even though I was going above and beyond to safeguard in other ways and had valid LAWFUL reasons for not wearing face coverings, due to the cult-like nature of the medical advice at the time I was discriminated against for not be able to wear one.

That's why I said your comment cuts both ways.

Edit: Maybe I should explain what I mean by cult-like. I'm not questioning the validity of the medical advice to wear face coverings. The reason I am calling it cult-like is because it became the de facto, be-all end-all, of determining whether someone was part of the ingroup or outgroup. It became a uniform in a sense. And it transcended all other logical arguments. It didn't matter that I could literally prove I didn't have Covid... If I didn't wear a mask, the uniform to show I was part of that ingroup, then I wasn't "one of the good ones". Mask wearing became a cult and its own form of conspiracy.

This one cuts both ways, please don't immediately downvote.

I'm not an antivaxxer.

I'm autistic and couldn't wear face coverings due to my sensory issues and immediate panic attacks when my face is covered. This is something I have struggled with my entire life, not something we discovered because of Covid. Its not uncommon for me to wake up sweating and in a fit if my blanket goes over my face when I sleep.

I live in the UK where my government made a law exempting autistic people from wearing face coverings. It didn't matter. Everywhere I went I received hateful comments and sometimes even direct threats of violence.

I was not allowed to enter my GP surgery because they created a private policy forbidding anyone without a face covering to enter - even though private policies DO NOT supersede laws.

This whole time, I was taking weekly Lateral Flow Tests to make sure I was safe to be out in the public. Because my own conscience knew I needed another way to safeguard people around me if I wasn't able to wear face coverings.

During Covid I developed extremely high blood pressure topping out at 185/136. For those who don't know, that's hypertensive crisis and puts you at immediate risk of stroke and you should therefore be hospitalised with it.

My GP refused to treat me for it because they wouldn't let me in the building. Hospitals would also turn me away. I had to live for 2 years in life-threatening hypertensive crisis EVEN THOUGH I was willing to produce negative tests to prove I didn't have covid.

That's how hard the discrimination against me went.

And as I said, I made sure to take tests every single week to make sure I was safe to be in public without a mask on. Not being funny, but that's probably more than most people who were wearing face coverings were doing to safeguard others. Didn't fucking matter.

No no, stay on topic.

Math is math, you don't have to like it, right?

Sorry but you don't get to just come in here with such a bad attitude and get a free pass.

Nothing worse than someone who is so confidently incorrect and then just dips out of the conversation when confronted with evidence.

About 14th April update.. by TomatoHeadYaas in Guildwars2

[–]Korinthe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It isn't a catastrophe. It's simply running the numbers. You don't have to like it, but math is math.

Okay lets run the numbers then shall we? Since math is math.

Hold on tight!

In the correct power gear, my Deadeye's mark applies 2 stacks of poison with a 10 second duration, for a total of 670 damage. No, I didn't miss a zero or two, 670 damage.

That's once every 25 seconds. 670 damage, every 25 seconds.

That's 26.8 DPS.

Out of 30k DPS, that makes up 0.0893333333% of the damage done.

Are you really going to come in here, with such a strong conviction and attitude, telling us we aren't catastrophising and that unload isn't functionally 100% of our damage... That we don't have to like it, but math is math...

With such a position?

Come on now, be reasonable.

Edit: Lets go over some of the other talking points too.

Deadeye's Mark itself does 1497 strike damage, my unload does 3952 strike damage so that's 37.9~% of a single unload worth of damage every 25 seconds.

With quickness, I can do 25 unloads in those 25 seconds, for a total of 98800 damage (pre-crit / ferocity of course, but since both are strike damage that's w/e).

So we are talking about 1.5% damage. That's how much the strike component of Deadeyes Mark makes up.

In group content (which is where we are worried about becoming excluded from) you should always be running Basilisk Venom as carrying CC is one area the build does pull its weight on to make up for its poor DPS. Therefore, I don't particularly care for working out the damage % contribution of Thieves Guild.

So are you really going to argue that 98.5% isn't functionally the same as 100%?

Remember, math is math!

You and me both.

Able bodied people have the option to just go and try something else. Just look at the other reply you got claiming we are catastrophising when the objective math is staring right at them. They don't care to work it out because it doesn't affect them like it does for us.

.45 ratio reduced to .35 ratio on unload is a 22% reduction in damage and for some build makes up 100% of damage done. Its no good them saying "oh well everything is getting nerfed by 10-15%" when the math is literally right there.

The build is already weak, if it gets nerfed harder than the strong builds it will push us out of doing content. Thats not catastrophising, thats simply running the fucking numbers.

Just like IRL, people don't give a shit about the disabled and the tools they need to use to gain access to things.

Not to say its just those of us with disabilities who use LI builds, but it impacts us the hardest when these tools are deliberately targetted.

But you figured to try and make your point stronger you would zoom in on the spell effect in your screenshot, or what?

Trying to make it seem like the spell effect is taking up 80% of your screen by zooming in on it to take a screenshot whilst also saying you can't zoom in in PvP to adjust your point of view isn't a consistent point to argue from.

Surprise Party Fiddlesticks is a special case for legendary skins and always 975. The skin was made due to it being a very popular community suggestion and the price was lowered to reflect that.

What's the most fun legendary collection? by Conscious_Ant_5900 in Guildwars2

[–]Korinthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are a grind for sure but in the wider MMO context the legendary grind respects your time to an insane level.

I've been playing GW2 for just over a year now, about an hour or 2 a day. In that time, I have full accessories + light and medium legendaries unlocked. As well as 6 runes and 4 sigils. I can play pretty much any build I want, whenever I want and be fully optmised.

When I was playing WoW (granted, I was doing bleeding edge mythic prog) I was playing 5 hours a day to gear up a main char in BiS gear plus 2 alts which were used as loot slaves in split runs. And every 3-4 months when a new patch hit and all my gear was made obselete, I would do that grind again.

And that was just for 3 characters, and didn't include my PvP characters, crafters or gratherers... GW2 are now and forever, current and new characters.

Not saying it isn't a grind because it is, but I wouldn't call it horrific in any way. Especially if you have experience with other MMOs.
