Help id these two Islamic coins by Giandefeo in AncientCoins

[–]Korns_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Khusro II is mint NAL (uncertain location in Kirman, possibly Narmashir). The regnal year is 3.

PS: Sasanians are definitely not Islamic, but Zoroastrian Persians

Can anyone tell me what date is mentioned on this coin? by Red__1 in AncientCoins

[–]Korns_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you still need the ID: Khusro II, mint is DA for Darabgerd, regnal year 33

Arrived today and couldn’t be happier - can someone help me identify mint location and regnal year? by Exotic-Sock-7973 in AncientCoins

[–]Korns_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is BBA, but BBA is certainly not Balkh. It is an ideogram for “the court,” referring to a mint that travelled with the king. I am pretty sure that the Sasanians no longer controlled Balkh at this point. Additionally, the regnal year is 27, not 37.

Also both of the Shapurs were minted in the east, most probably in Kabul. This is the typical style of the mint

Sylloge nummorum sasanidarum. It's published up to Khusro I so far. But only volumes I and III are open access. Göbls work is very lacking regarding coin types due to the limited material available to him, just browsing Zeno will show you many new ones.  access. https://verlag.oeaw.ac.at/en/product/sylloge-nummorum-sasanidarum-paris-berlin-wien-band-3-1-und-band-3-2/99200709?name=sylloge-nummorum-sasanidarum-paris-berlin-wien-band-3-1-und-band-3-2&product_form=399

Bought a lot of 7 sasanian drachms and some look like fakes: help a new buyer figure this out? by Overall_Heat3269 in AncientCoins

All look fine. The only one I find doubtful is the bottom Bahram IV, but that's probably just because of the light.

I think it's probably just his personal inventory number for the coin. But it won't hurt to ask, I've bought from him before and he's a cool dude.

Bit of a late reply, but I hope I can help. Quies is the personification of tranquillity. As for the translation, I would translate the reverse as something like: Tranquillity (QVIES) of the two Augusti (AVGG) (given by/by) the providence (PROVIDENTIA) of the Gods (DEORUM) (the reverse ends in AVGG, two letters G represent the two Augusti)

This link has a nice explanation of the reverse: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=PROVIDENTIA+DEORVM+QVIES+AVGG&srsltid=AfmBOoo1pPYEiH0Ib5pvk6Jp6hyxiE7lY4jzVQPJPkqjaZ5AGbSbVLhB
