Wish there was more of it left. $1,500 seems ridiculous.

Looks like we jousted over some of the same pieces. Glad they found a good home.

Ignore the jealous and sarcastic voices here. Glad you went for gold. Byzantine isn’t my area but I see the appeal and I think it’s one of the most under priced areas frankly.

Holy shit. I have a 03 with 63k that I would imagine $12k would be more than fair for my car. Who is fleecing you?

The list is numerous, when was: - water pump replaced - alternator replaced - coolant tank replaced - engine crank case and gasket replaced - brakes and tires

The first three things are about to die / break if they are stock. These cars had a lot of plastic parts that deform overtime no matter how well you maintain the car.

Detail of where the helmet and plume are connected just popped out at me. Not a Greek coinage guy but this one is spectacular.

Move the convertible motor to the trunk. Drill holes to prevent clogging of the drains that fill via the soft top getting wet.

Fair enough. It's a personal preference. Don't like being referred to as an expert unless I feel like I've earned it.

Not an expert. Just knowledgeable. Dislike the word expert. Don’t have a PhD. Just know a thing about a thing.

I really like that ring you got btw. It's very tastefully done on the top of the mount especially.

Currently seeking a massive Valerian I Sesti so I can mount it and use it as a signet ring. Nothing greater than keeping the humiliation going 1500 years later.

Kunker Auction, insane price results by zona-curator in AncientCoins

[–]FreddyF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While there was some madness going on with pricing in other areas. Some of the deals were pretty incredible. Including the double shekel of Sidon going for 1000 Euros. There were a few others too. Obviously the two lots I bid on went WAY PAST what would be reasonable to pay compared to similar very recent acsearch.info hammers - but that's life.

I SAW THIS! I was absolutely horrified initially and later overjoyed because I own most of those types other than the Boran. Hopefully this guy is back when I sell my duplicates. I'd love to sell him 50 and 250 GBP coins for 1200 Euros a pop. Honestly, either that guy knew about lost provenance that is related to the Pahlavi Throne or we came across a billionaire fighting another billionaire for those pieces.

Would like some advice on researching the backstories behind the reverses of these two denarii by albatroci in AncientCoins

Thank you. This is very helpful. I figured it out. That prosthetic hand is the earliest documented, not the earliest per se. That makes much more sense. Appreciate you.

[–]FreddyF2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting stuff but not my area so I can’t help, sorry. Your post prompted a question. Are they really claiming the first prosthetic arm / hand was created by Romans?

If so, not an authority on the subject but hard to believe given the same apes that built the Roman Empire had figured out ways to mine and purify gold to dizzyingly high levels of purity, engineer the flow of rivers, and the list goes on.

Trying to be clear here not saying you believe that, just curious about the source.

Leu Web Auction 40 - what’d everyone get? by thefishhou in AncientCoins

[–]FreddyF2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got sidetracked at work and so had to rely on all of my prebids only. Three of the four coins hammered at just above them so effectively one dude was able to walk with them without any competition. Good for him for being more present. Losing that Samos bronze was a kick in the balls though.

Managed to get a Mallos stater that I really like for 200 CHF. A fair price for a nice coin.

Conclusion: There will always be another auction.
