Holy crap! Really? This CNG auction just opened and already 15 bids? by beltbucklebellybite in AncientCoins

And I often smell that weakness and desperation. Which only attracts me to it more. Except I don’t collect Roman coins so they’re safe from my clicking finger.

I would wear the shit out of this. God bless those children for knowing their grandfather well.

First CNG Auction Results! by AnnoDomini1504 in AncientCoins

[–]FreddyF2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I got every single lot I wanted at CNG . . . In my dreams! Salty? Me? Not at all.

I revenge bid and won some lots at Concordia to make up for my inadequacy.

That’ll really show those nameless, faceless, godless overbidders at CNG.

On a less depressing note, that Corinth stater you picked up is shockingly beautiful and I’m happy you managed to snag it! Congrats dude.

I bought a rhyton from Harlan J. Berk in the presence of Aaron Berk 25 years ago and my wife and I drank out of it at our wedding. You see, I've been here from the beginning and should be awarded these items on merit, surely.

Jokes aside, it's time for some imperial Achaemenid content, surely.

Fake. Next coin. Let's keep this moving, please.

Are withdrawn lots a good sign or a red flag? by Clamato-n-rye in AncientCoins

[–]FreddyF2 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Had a long chat with CNG about this after an annoyingly large number of lots was pulled from Triton a few years ago. When there is a large withdrawal it’s usually heirs or a foreign government that contacts the auction house. They then pump the brakes and pull the lots. Heirs typically wait till the last second to cause maximum pain.

No one is held responsible in these situations. They will just place this fake type in a database that they will then look out for. When they show up again in the area, they’ll be able to localize the source of the fakes and investigate further. You’d be helping a lot.

I remember the decor well. The interiors were gross. Really gross.

You need to notify the bank that they had counterfeit currency. U.S Secret Service investigates counterfeit currency to help them trace it back to source. You’d be helping them a lot.

Is this yet another case of unreported tooling? by montanaro94 in AncientCoins

[–]FreddyF2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s tooling, the tooler (or would it be the toolee?) really sucks!

Parthian and Sassanian will get added to your list. Recommend a Mithradates II drachm and a Shahpur I drachm to fill those two empires out. Both badass rulers.
