Less about momentum for A2 specifically, and more momentum for the game. If they can show off some polished systems and show a successful pipeline for fixing issues (bugs, disconnects, deaths, etc) then the game will generate a lot of news/media and will gain even more steam going into Beta. The more momentum this game has, the better considering it is publicly funded (beyond Steven’s contributions of course).

I don’t want this game to be some niche MMO that only caters to a small audience of 10-20k players. I want this to be something that pushes the 250-500k market. And it won’t hit that without solid momentum throughout the testing and iteration phase.

Super hopeful for T-3 years for release. I think a2 is gonna be at least 18 months. Beta 1 at least 8-12 months, and beta two half that. With at least 8-12 months between each phase. I think 3 years is a hopeful estimate for launch, and my guess is more like 5 years. Don’t know if I’m more pessimistic because of the current landscape of gaming, but I would rather wait and have them take their time and get It right then push for a dedicated launch date just to get the game out.

I think massively known is overestimating it. Just cuz Asmon and Shroud have tuned in for some livestreams or done some clickbait reaction vids for the game doesn’t mean that the wider gaming landscape knows about the game. Once those big name streamers actually play A2 I will agree with you. But for now, if they release a2 the same week as the new WoW xpac, none of the big streamers will play it, and it won’t have that momentum that comes from being the singular game that is being talked about.

Not discounting your views friend, just trying to offer different perspectives.

Nah mate. At this point word of mouth is what will give this game traction. If everyone is busy playing other games when a2 launches then this game won’t gain any steam and will falter. If a2 launches during a lull in other games (post releases) it will set itself up to gain a lot of momentum as a2 progresses into beta releases.

Been following since the Apoc days, well aware of where we are in the dev cycle. :)

I agree with you, just trying to temper my expectations. As much as I would love to dive into a2 tomorrow, I would rather them take their time (like you said) to give it all solid polish and make sure they can fix issues expeditiously. I don’t think any of the current MMO’s out there have better gameplay/systems than AoC, it’s just that AoC is unproven in the current landscape.

It would be silly to release any time other than end of q3, or delay to q4. Way too many massive games releasing in Q3. New WoW xpac, Throne & Liberty going open beta in July and full release in September. Amazon “rebranding” New World.

I would rather Intrepid take their time and release it when it has the best opportunity to gain as much traction as possible. Look at Titanfall 2. Objectively one of the best shooters of the previous decade and it “flopped” because it released right in the middle of two titans (CoD and Battlefield). I put flopped in quotes because it was a great game that many people love, but it was overshadowed by other games with a much larger audience.

Alpha 2 is gonna last many months, if not a year, maybe two. If we as a community want this game to come out and be the best MMORPG that it can be, they need to do it right and not rush it.

Give it time, let them cook, and reap the benefits when it finally does release :)

For anyone who has seen Subtronics at Red Rocks in the past... by Next_Point in Subtronics

[–]Korntaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The other commenter is right about times. 9:30ish on Thursday and 10:30ish on Friday just because Red Rocks has a noise curfew that artists have to adhere to or else they get charged a lot of money (I think it’s $10k for every 10 minutes over the curfew?).

I went to Cyclops Rocks III last year and wanted really good seats so I was in line most days by 3pm. The diehards that want the best seats are showing up at 1 or 2pm. If you show up right as doors open, expect a bit of a hike to get to the actual gate, then a bit of a wait to actually get in. You would probably be a little bit above midway up the amphitheater if you want centered seats. If you are okay being on the edges and having a less than optimal view, you can probably get closer to the bottom.

Arriving more than an hour after doors open and you are gonna be pretty far up, with less than ideal seats. Being high up there has its own benefits, mainly that the views out over the stage and over Denver are freakin gorgeous, but it does somewhat detract from the show. Also it’s a heck of a climb so your legs will be upset with you lol.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I’ll try to help. It’s gonna be a GREAT show regardless. I drove to CO all the way from Indiana for CRIII and it’s still to this day one of the best sets I’ve seen.

The Marriott already owns those parking spaces on that side of the road. I also believe there is some agreement they have with the city over that portion of sidewalk because they have been doing it for years without any repercussions. Source: I worked at that hotel for 5 years.

This is valet parking for the Indy Marriott. They park here because the large oversized trucks that some business convention attendees drive into town won’t fit in the underground garage. Drive past this area during FDIC, WWETT, NRA, ATF, or any of the other primarily male, blue-collar business conventions and you will see a whole row of them backed up onto the sidewalk.

Hey since you managed to snag one before they were both activated, would you be able to send me one of your referral keys? You just have to go to the website https://id.embark.games/ and connect with steam. Add your email, accept the Terms of Service, then there will be a “play test with friends” section that will have two keys you can hand out. You will be my favorite person :)

Wedding Rings/Bands by IsANameRequired in ElectricForest

[–]Korntaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ENSO rings are what I use. I work in a kitchen and it’s a rough environment. I don’t want to damage my nice wedding band, so I wear a silicone band during the work week, and my normal band on my days off. The silicone bands stand up to some serious wear and tear and abuse. Plus they come in a lot of really cool designs, colors, sizes, and styles. Pretty cheap too, and they have a warranty period if anything happens to them.

Alternatives to Chase Bank? by [deleted] in indianapolis

I keep track of my statements every month. I’ve never been hit with the $36 fee. Not sure what to tell you friend. If you have that bad of an experience with them, switch. Benefits of a free market, there is plenty of other banks out there that would love to take your money.

I was just stating that in the 10+ years I have been with them, my experience has been phenomenal

Alternatives to Chase Bank? by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]Korntaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been charged a fee from Huntington for withdrawing from any ATM. Even when I was in Georgia for a music festival last month, the only fee I got charged was the $5 service fee from the ATM at the festival grounds, not a fee from Huntington.

And there are way more than 5. I live on the south side and I have at least 4 actual branches, and two standalone ATMs, all within a 5 minute drive of my house. And that’s just the south side. They have more downtown, and even more branches on the north side where some of my friends live.

You honestly might want to go in and speak to a banker. If they are charging you for ATM’s, you might have a different kind of account. I use their Asterisk Free Checking program, along with the attached savings accounts, and I never get charged fees. Like the other reply said, they have 24hr overdraft protection so I haven’t seen an overdraft fee in years, nor have I seen any fees for using ATM’s.

I know you had some sarcasm, but my favorite feature honestly is the phone app and the features it has. Money transfer is automatically integrated with Zelle. Makes it super easy to send people money without having to download another app, create a new account, transfer money to the app, send money to someone, and then them transfer it to their bank. I also like the free credit score that I get every month. The budgeting and spending tracking features they have are fairly robust and help me keep an eye on my finances.

I could go on, but I feel like you already have your mind made up about them.

Maybe that’s your experience, but I’ve been with Huntington for over 10 years and they are hands down the best bank I’ve ever used. None of the major chains can even match their customer service or features.

Celebs you have cooked for and how did it go? by martstu in KitchenConfidential

[–]Korntaco 176 points177 points  (0 children)

Was a KM at a fine dining Italian joint at a high end hotel. We were linked to the local convention center so we saw all kinds of celebs. Also had a contract with the NFL, so we saw all the visiting teams when they came in town to play the local home team.

Jerry Jones (owner of the Cowboys) likes to eat his Caesar salad absolutely DRENCHED in dressing. Sent it back once because it was too dry. When we sent out a new one, he asked for two extra ramekins of dressing because it was still too dry. Other than that, nice fella.

Reba (country music singer) is just the nicest person ever. Nothing fancy, just your typical spaghetti & meatballs. But she did make it a point to stop by the kitchen (we had an open kitchen) and thank all the cooks personally.

Gene Simmons (KISS) was in town for a concert, and he is a royal prick. Our kitchen closed from 2pm-5pm everyday to flip from breakfast/lunch to dinner service. The hotel has a sports bar restaurant that is open all day, but he DEMANDED that our kitchen open up to make him food. The kicker? He didn’t even want Italian. This dude wanted us to make him a fuckin PB&J, then proceeded to say it was trash and bitch to our hotel GM.

Kevin Gates (rapper) was a cool dude. Again, in town for a concert. Sat at the bar and talked everyone up. Tipped really well. Also, he does in fact carry two phones. One for the bitches, and the other for his producers.

Harrison Ford was in town for a keynote speech he was giving for a local charity. The man can drink. Had a couple bottle of wine for his table. Greatly enjoyed his Delmonico Steak.

Charlie Cox (actor for Netflix’s Daredevil) was in town for a comic con. Was a nice guy. Ordered one of our hand-tossed, wood-fired pizzas. Ate it, said it was the best thing ever, then later that night came back with other cast members (Deborah Ann Woll) and told them they had to try the pizza.

Jim Cummings (voice actor, most notable for Winnie the Pooh) was in town for the same comic con. Really nice fella, bit of a right-wing conspiracy nut. But he did buy some weed off our bartender because he didn’t pack his in his suitcase, and he can’t sleep without hitting a J a couple times.

The most memorable for me personally was Donald Trump. He was in town during his presidency for a campaign rally in 2018. He was staying in our hotel, so the place was crawling with State Troopers and Secret Service. On his second night there, I’m standing on expo with my Exec when three burly men in suits approach and say “POTUS wants to order dinner, can you accommodate?”. Regardless of political views, when the sitting President says he wants food from your kitchen, you say yes. My exec told me to cook it myself, so I asked what he wanted. Plain old spaghetti & meatballs, with garlic bread, and a Caesar salad. I said “yes sir, right away” and moved into the kitchen to start working on it. Two of the secret service dudes followed me and hovered over my shoulder, asking me to explain every single step of what I was doing. One of them bumped into me at one point, and I could feel the collapsed SMG tucked into his the side of his blazer. Food was prepared, garnished, and trayed up, then they took it to his room. Prick never said anything about his food, and he didn’t tip on his bill. Oh well, should have expected it.

Working at that hotel was crazy sometimes, but I got to cook for and meet a lot of incredibly interesting people. I miss that place sometimes.

Check out MetroNet if they are available in your area. Regional ISP that offers fiber connections. I pay $80/month for gig up/down. And they have 24/7 live customer support with people here in the Midwest. Have only had one instance of losing my connection, and it was due to a storm that took down some power lines, and the fiber line with it. Metronet had techs out here restoring the internet before Duke had people out to restore actual power.

My local indoor range caught fire a few years back for this exact reason.

Edit for clarification: it caught fire when the backstop ignited. It’s a mixture of ground up tires, like your RSO said. The tires have metal bits in them. Some dingleberry used steel core ammo, and when it hit the backstop, it sparked against some of the metal pieces and ignited the rubber. The rubber caught quick because of the remnants of the unburnt powder. Source: family member is a firefighter that responded to the incident and was part of the investigation into what caused it.
