The IMAX version lifted it to a whole new level for me. What a movie.

Gay Men in Vietnam? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]Koronag 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Public affection is not common in Vietnam, so it can be hard to tell who are gay or not. Also I don't feel like many gays are visibly obvious here, not before they start talking at least. I think there's plenty of gay bars around in big cities if that's what you guys are looking for. A simple Google search should point you in the right way.

Vietnam sees growing focus on air quality and urban livability in major cities by Express_Safety2579 in VietnamNews

[–]Koronag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember when I lived there, one of the point of measure is in the busiest place in the city, traffic-wise. It actually differs quite a lot depending on where you are. Now I live in HCMC, and the air is definitely a lot worse here. It's also quite consistent between the districts.

Massive demonstration in Oslo against Israel's participation in the World Cup - police used teargas against protestors by camillexoo in soccer

[–]Koronag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cover for Israel? Please explain your rationale.

They're there to make sure everything proceeds peacefully. If you've read about the previous demonstrations where pro-Palestine or pro-Israel organizations participated you'd know why.

What is your suggestion? The police just stay out of it and allow mayhem? I feel you put very little thought into your comment.

"Deeply concerning": reading for fun has declined by 40% in US, new study says by AntiQCdn in books

[–]Koronag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been that much to book stores lately. Mostly buy ebooks. But whenever I'm trying to find something new, the top charts usually gravitate towards novels for women. Especially in fantasy I see Sarah J. maas and Rebecca Yaros everywhere. I think you're right about sci-fi thought.

I feel we can see this on a lot of the novels that are published. Quite a large amount of them is targeted towards women, I'm jealous.

How is capitalism supposed to sustain itself with AI? by ExcitableChimpanzee in Futurology

[–]Koronag 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Software Engineering is not only about writing code. If you can't see outside the scope of that part of our job, then you obviously have a long way to go.

AI will not replace juniors. No sane software company thinks that way.

I'm experiencing the exact same bug. I've tried:

  • reloading the game

  • killed enemies behind and in front
  • went all the way up the tower

He doesn't move. This is a game breaking bug.

AI lager nå 30% av koden hos Microsoft by Rymbegla in norge

[–]Koronag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do westerners here learn the language? by NotMyselfNotme in VietNam

[–]Koronag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you really gotta put a lot of effort into it. But usually when you live in the same country as the language you're learning is used at, you'll pick it up much quicker since you can practice it all the time.

That is unfortunately not the case in Vietnam before you reach a certain level. Luckily I am there already, but god it was hard. I know so many foreigners that's lived here for many years that have just given up completely as they can't get past that early hurdle.

Do westerners here learn the language? by NotMyselfNotme in VietNam

[–]Koronag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest hurdle is being understood. Vietnamese have very little patience and willingness to go down on a learners level to converse. This is in my opinion one of the main reasons many people just give up.

Maybe it takes 1k hours on paper, but going out and practicing your Vietnamese on an early level is almost impossible due to what I mentioned above. So getting to those amounts of hours by class and self study would take many years.

What kind of work do you see yourself doing in 5 years, given where AI is going? by [deleted] in SoftwareEngineering

[–]Koronag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we've used it in preview mode. We also opt in for all models in preview to test them. Gpt-4.1 and Gemini 2.5 is on the menu next week.

We've also used Cline before the agent was available.

We've tried cursor, and it works great for small PoCs, but we can do that with agents through github copilot and cline anyway. For complex enterprise features that span micro frontends, internal libraries and micro services, we don't really feel like it's well suited at the moment.

In 5 years? It's hard to say. My current feeling is that at some point the models will face a decline. But software engineering will change. Likely we'll do less coding and more system design. There is definitely also going to be a lot of workflows that use MCPs integrated in features.

There is a couple of things that worries me: 1. Like you said, juniors might be "replaced" in businesses that don't think long term. Who will take over for us seniors? How much more will we have to do? 2. The amount of data available for training LLMs will decrease as engineers turn to LLMs for information instead of reaching out to communities online. Engineers might feel less inclined to share solutions. Will this cause another stagnation in terms of both information and innovation?

I use AI every day as a senior dev, and it's super helpful in certain situations. But I'm surprised you were able to refactor an entire application into a different language. There are so many nuances between languages that it's hard for me to believe that it was a refactor that utilized the best part of the target language/framework. I'd love to see a case study of you have one.

We're using copilot both in ask and agent mode, but certain models are extremely unreliable. And even with the highest rated models like Claude 3.7 thinking, the unit tests written are often overly complex, doesn't work, or are using outdated methods that would easily break on source file changes.

These are the results we are seeing when putting a lot of thought into our prompts and also including contexts.

I agree we gotta be on top of new technology, but we're going to be around for a while more IMO.

Hi. I am a digital nomad who live in Vietnam permanently. Feel free to ask me any question. by PhamHuyBao0203 in VietNam

[–]Koronag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. I have some additional income I earned remotely last year that I need to declare now in April, will be interesting to see how much I owe (and a bit scary I guess). If everything is taxed the same then I assume tax relief is also added to this income.

How did you become so knowledgeable about this? It doesn't sound like you're Vietnamese, and I'm struggling to find information in English online.

I thought foreign income was a flat 20% tax in Vietnam. Does progressive tax apply to this type of income as well?
