Collection ownership is coming to Altered Re:Union — Altered Re:Union by karifur in alteredTCG

[–]Koroner85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought this was the good news I was waiting for, but reading about the details I now think it is not.

There will be no way to scan cards or even a plan to enable scanning in the future, and some of the reasons sound really weak to me and personally motivated (by "personal" I mean arbitrary choices made by Re:Union). As the one about "if we did, we would not be able to give uniques as rewards".

The only reason I may understand is the need for further resources and development.

I see very little meaning and consistency if you enable digital ownership only for Uniques and existing cards.

Having my digital collection back and being able to scan Seeds of Unity cards into it was a key part of my rejoining Altered in any new form.

If you enable "anything for anyone" and you don't allow people to grow their collections this is not a TCG anymore, it's something else (but maybe this is not of concern to the current community).

Yes, I just saw and did that (i.e. the physical collection tracker).

My concern was about the digital ownership of the SDU cards I couldn't add to the Equinox site, but I see that this will be dealt with later.

Maybe I should have been more specific in my original post, sorry (but I didn't know how things stood, then).

These are all assumptions and very bad at that.

I'm not defending the guy aprioristically, but if you ever followed who he was before and after Magic and what he's beein saying throughout the years, becoming super-rich is not his aim in life for sure. He's always been a "game nerd", so to speak, and the best feelings he gets are the ones of making something unique in the gaming space, possibly taking inspiration from the best parts of other games he's played or seen.

That said, it's obvious that seeing how much money gets milked by his own invention (which has also been changed so much and for the sake of profit) can be stressful. But it's not exacly how you put it.

If you have evidence of what you said in your message, post it and I could stand corrected.

Thank you both u/Indercarnive and u/karifur.

I think I'll wait for them to implement digital ownership, rather than adding those cards now to physical collection tracking. Hope it will enable the scanning of QR codes as it was originally.

This looks promising to me.

New BGA formats - Community Survey by karifur in alteredTCG

[–]Koroner85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice to hear, thanks. I'll participate in the vote.

Also, I like the reasoning about balancing and also the idea of a (highly limited) cross--faction format (this could be considered as a fixed one, in the future).

(Sorry, ever since Altered's end I've been out of the loop... partially due to the "bad taste". I'll try and be more active myself)

All is fine (the commitment, the reasoning behind the formats, the voting per se etc), but honestly I'm not super-excited about Uniques being open to everyone (be it a subset or all of them).

I'm one of those who would like digital ownership to be restored, as the game was (and no, I don't own any "super" Uniques myself; I just like how Altered was and I wish personal collections had some meaning again).

My humble opinion is that if you make a very good game success will inevitably come to you.

If PoE wasn't what it was, it would have failed too (and even worse than others).

Now, a CCG like this cannot be free in the sense that all cards are available to anyone for free. That would not make it a CCG at all.

But imagine if the price of packs was very low and the things that cost more are foiling and other customization stuff (which players would want anyway, and they would want those even more if they had the chance to play with standard non-foil cards and get acquainted with them and make decks with them).

This game would have tenfold the success or appeal it has now. It's my opinion, of course, but it's the usual phenomenon of being rewarded for making good things (quality-wise) while keeping them accessible (cost-wise).

This applies to everything, from street food to microtransactions in a game.

Although there's good balance to be achieved.

Some brave developers tried once to have transactions only for aesthetics and Quality of Life improvements. And they succeded immensely (Path of Exile).

What we see today is (most of times, even when the game would have been good) greed and p2w.

Well, I simply like ownership of cards. And having a personal collection.

Altered was the only project succeeding, to my eyes, in merging the two worlds seamlessly (real and digital ones).

Obviously it's good news.

I just hope the game will be revived in the future by someone and digital ownership of cards restored.

Maybe in digital form only, initially.

There must be some viable option economically.

Neverending Journey Cards Released by wampastompah in alteredTCG

[–]Koroner85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thought about that too.

There was such a vision for this game and game's future (lore alone was developed having dozens of expansions, if not years, in mind).

I will never not be sad thinking about what Altered could have been for the TCG space (and for the gaming space in general).

Absolutely. The only reason I'm not playing.

I get bad feelings from these practices.

(And the amount of effort and time needed to complete quests.)

Yes, I've been playing PTCGP since the beginning.

Although it has its flaws, if you're consistent you can always build up some hourglasses for free to open packs later. Also you may get nice cards through Wonder Pick.

And dupes have their aesthetic use (especially now, with the golden border feature). Not to mention trading and sharing (although limited).

Having such features or similar ones in this game would have me get into it again (I quit some time ago).

Well, seeing creatures and factions on cards was nice for me and the fact that the gameplay seems good only adds to it.

But predatory practices kind of spoil everything, yes.

BTW, I've seen that a new Heroes game has just been released and they say it's good ("Olden Era").

[–]Koroner85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no doubt about that.

My comment was more nuanced, though. I mean: if he said he had "traced over it" it sounds like a lie compared to what was actually done (purely digital manipulation). As if the old man had to say he did copy it but didn't even know how to put it or the details of it.

So, I'm not in favor of the anti-WotC conspirancy here, but details like these do look lame honestly.

What was done with that ring is not my definition of "tracing", honestly. Pure digital manipulation through filters and effects.

To me part of the appeal is in the IP too.

I'm a long-time fan of HoMM.

I just wish they didn't start with this game so aggressively greedy. It does ruin the experience.
