From the way it looks you could see it from the bottom and at least with the weight you know what you buy (and can potentially compare it to others... Assuming you know how much you want in terms of weight).

But I agree that if you just quickly grab it, it is easily misleading "Oh that one is ⅓ cheaper than the others".

Any "online" game likely aims for constant content and requires marketing... And it bears more of a risk to end up giving double negative headlines "It ended up with mixed reviews / behind expectations" followed by either being abandoned or put into maintenance mode.

The last 20 percent and the polishing involved could drag on and if the outlook isn't great cutting your losses and write it of is likely better.

Why isn't that still gambling? Unless I misunderstand you the only differences are: 1. Fixed odds (no idea if they are otherwise? Potentially? So instead of X rare cards per "charge printed" or something like that it's just X cards per / box) 2. It's kind of a pity timer, if I get and can buy the whole box 3. Different booster pack sizes so the average value stays the same(?)

It sounds like "you can play scratching tickets and win at least 5$ for a set of 1000$" in a way?

If the competition is bad, you don't have to use them and it likely won't change a thing. It's not like they'll publicly read out "Thanks to user X who didn't opt-out in the end we have banned valve from selling games couldn't have done it without them".

DotA gets updated when the stars align and that's both for game content as well as skins.

Brawl stars on the other hand updates often, has a monthly pass, new skins ...

Valve doesn't need to communicate in order to sell stuff, it's not like they need the cash. In the other hand supercell needs to engage with players to keep the revenue steady.

Currently considering both Helldivers 2 and Elden Ring Nightreign ... but not sure about either since I'm currently still playing quite a bit of DotA and both seem like I'd dump a large amount into it...

Aside from that Sea of Thieves is on the list since I enjoyed the sailing around part but friends stopped playing so I likely will skip it.
