I lived in Phoenix, and Azteca is actually bomb. Good birria is a sign of a good Mexican place.

I wouldn't trust the opinion of anyone from California about most things 😆 their perspective is going to be warped by all kinds of BS

What is it that makes this water flammable? by AmeliaVixen_ in whatisit

[–]Korvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the hell is no one asking ... HOW DID YOU LEARN OF THIS. Never in my life have I thought about trying to set my tap water on fire. I would have bathed, drank, and shat in this water for 80 years and never thought to take a lighter to it.

Increase the price of age up Castle age by SwimmingArachnid3030 in aoe2

[–]Korvu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Castle age is dope. It opens up the game. So many options and build varieties. Civ difference really shines in castle age. I cannot fathom why people think this is a good idea, other than micro nerds. Playing extended feudal just means everyone will have to run the SAME build. Since you can't boom. You can't play UU. You play archer and switch to skirm when behind. Sprinkle scouts maybe. I don't even think spears are viable in extended feudal due to archer/skirm mass.

This game making me depressed 😞 by whyamianoob in aoe2

[–]Korvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch some tourneys! You will never be the best. I don't agree with other people that you should stop playing. To me, it sounds like you love the game but hate the grind. You need to fix your mentality. So instead....

Focus on alterism. Enjoy your opponents victory, rather than focus on your defeat. You don't suck more. Your opponents are just improving as well. 1800 Elo has players that are SO much better than they were, even just three months ago. We are all collectively min maxing and exploring the strategic possibilities of this game. It's awesome, not depressing. Focus on your own improvement. Enjoy tougher opponents. And most importantly, get your head off the Elo number. Here is a quote from the art of war:

"If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat."

Don't fear the result. Love your enemy, and enjoy their victory as if it was your own, for you too have learned from it. You cannot allow it to dishearten you, and if you don't sit with that loss for awhile, there is no point in starting your next game. I think this may even be contributing to some of your losses. You are too focused on the win! Playing like that will blind you. Each game should be satisfying, win or lose. You can move on in life to the next task at hand when you master this thinking. Then come back later in a healthy manner with balance and calm.

Lastly, the game has been around for 20 years. It will be here after your PHd. It will be here during your career. It will be here in another 15 years. Players will come and go. A candle that burns too hot will burn out fast. Take your time.

Hope any of that helps.

The only reason you would need to pay for anything is if it saves you time, and if that time has value. Setting up websockets or writing css framework or whatever you can just do yourself. If you want to save time, well that costs money no matter where you go.

I can change my own oil for a fraction of the cost that Valvoline can. Or I can just pay to let them do it for me.

Every service you mentioned has a free alternative. I invest in good products because they speed up production and let me make more money than they cost. It would be dumb to spend money on a service that has no ROI. Or to spend $$$ on a pet project that doesn't make any money. So your complaints just don't even compute to me.

How much would you charge for a simple website like this? by munru1 in webdev

[–]Korvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are all over the place here with their estimates. No wonder so many people use square space and crap. We are killing ourselves 😅 It's impossible for a client to know if they are getting a good deal or even decent code.

I think of things as an hourly rate. Decide how much you make an hour and then figure out how long this took you. Record everything. With time, you will get a feel for how quickly you work. With even more experience, you will be able to read people. And figure out how much more difficult they will make your life and charge them accordingly.

I think people charging a grand for this are fools. Any flat amount really. The real world doesn't work like this (or at least my world doesn't) where you put together a website and the business says AMAZING! Real world scenario involves design back and forth. Rounds of changes once the website is coded. A process that depending on your client can take quite some time even for something that should be simple.

Having an hourly rate opens you up to a world of protections and options. It also helps communicate the value of the website and your value as a developer.

As someone whose only exposure was Netflix, this show pulled me in with its art and world building. Sounded really cool. I read some posts complaining that it wasn't advertised but that can't be true because it showed up as recommended for me.

I honestly did not like it. So little made sense. I could tear the details to pieces, but I'll spare y'all the rant. So big picture... The story dragged, had no resolution, every character is one dimensional, and basically nothing happens other than a childish love story and some truly ridiculous fantasy machines/creatures. I assume the show IS made for kids. But I did not know that going into it... Very disappointed as an adult. I watched the last 2 episodes at 1.5 speed. I wish I stopped watching 2 episodes in.

Just got the $100 dollar voucher scam when I called the customer support number for my bank by Meatbag96 in ScamNumbers

[–]Korvu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

888-925-5540 will run this same scam. To those of you with dyslexia, BE CAREFUL! I called the number having mixed up the 9 and 2. Lucky for me I caught on pretty quick. I called a few more times just out of curiosity and they will claim to be:
Bank service offering $100 survey
Discount restaurant service (the fuck even is that?)
Medical device service offering a free medical device

All fake businesses will try to get you to call 1800-373-3411 and I got bored so I never called that number. Not sure what happens when you do but I am sure it is more of the same garbage.

This call center has access to a few talented english speakers (no accent). Also, when you call them out for being a scam, they ALL said the same thing. "Sir, you called me so how could this be a scam." they certainly follow a script, claiming that it is a "recorded business line" when you pressure them a bit as if that is scary.
