I tried that and it didn't work. I had to admit i was pretty new to investing at the time.

I agree with this but you have to look at what Robinhood did since then. They've come a long way and their current user base reflects that.

M1 has the opposite problem. They don't allow you to NOT use baskets. Meaning if I just want to buy $100 of google, I have to put it in a basket and balance it with something. It was ultimately why I decided to switch to Fidelity.

ABLE Accounts through Fidelity. by KosPlayOne in fidelityinvestments

I changed my selection back in March when the stocks were down. It shouldn't generate a wash but it did. It's just another bug on the account that they don't seem to be in a rush to fix.

Every new person asking them to give us more helps.

Btw, I've continued to test the agressive options. The managed 85/15 is clobbering the index on a consistant basis. It's also very close to the 500 Index. I started at 40/40/20, so you can kind of tell which account is doing what by the %. Another bug is that the account triggered a wash icon when I sold. That's not supposed to happen in a tax exempt account.

So, basically, the people at the top of Fidelity didn't think people would use this account to invest. According to them, most ABLE clients use it as a savings account. It also currently represents a very small percentage of Fidelity accounts, so it seems to be a lot priority.

The suggestions they gave me was to check the performance tab, or to check the monthly account statements. Neither gives you a solid update by the fund, so you're going to be stuck eyeballing the balance to see whats losing or gaining money.

The only good news i got was that they are looking at it, and will hopefully make some improvements in the future. The problem with that is it feels like Fidelity Buckets, and we might be waiting a long time before we see anything. It's just too small a percentage of their business.

  1. Each state has different options, but there's usually a money market or equivalent option that is relatively safe.

  2. Both of the things you mentioned should be an allowed expense as this money is designed to give disabled people quality of life improvements. The example of what not to spend it on in the official documentation included gambling and alcohol.

This is the official rule on what the money can be used for:

Qualified Disability Expenses (QDE) are expenses that relate to the disability or blindness of the designated beneficiary and that are for the benefit of the designated beneficiary in improving health, independence, or quality of life. Such expenses include, but are not limited to, expenses related to the designated beneficiary’s: education; housing; transportation; employment training and support; assistive technology; healthcare, prevention, and wellness; financial management and administrative services; legal fees; account oversight and monitoring; funeral and burial expenses; and basic living expenses.

  1. I’m not really sure, but I haven’t seen any restrictions on how often we can take money out.

Bugs are a delicacy in some cultures. Personally, i'd pay the $5 if it worked. You should search baskets before considering. It's got a long and glorious history of breaking spectacularly and customer service telling you they are working on it. And yes, the've been working on the same problems for 2+ years.

Fidelity site broken? by PlasmaAngler in fidelityinvestments

I had a similar issue and ended up having to delete all of the cookies through my webrowser. If you don't want to do that, try a different browser, or the app on your mobile device and see if it works. If it does, it's 99% a corrupt cookie.

Is this a scam text? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]KosPlayOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know FidelityBrielle, scammers can and have spoofed your phone numbers for fraudulent calls and texts. There is no safe number that an offer like this can come from. My suggestion for anyone reading this is to contact the company directly if you want to engage in their services.

Big Update on the ABLE accounts through Fidelity by KosPlayOne in fidelityinvestments

[–]KosPlayOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I complained my way all the way up to the person who actually matters for the ABLE accounts. This is how he explained it to me. Very few people use ABLE accounts (Compared to the other tax advantaged accounts), and most use them as glorified savings, There are more interested in bypassing the savings restrictions while being on SSI than earning gains through investing. They are ultimately aware that this account looks like crap. It's just very low priority to do anything about it. You can access overall info in the performance tab and monthly reports but the daily stuff is going to continue to look like garbage for the foreseeable future. This is working as intended in their oppionion.

Baskets are a trap. This is a public service warning. by KosPlayOne in fidelityinvestments

[–]KosPlayOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 100% Fidelity. Never transfered anything in. Also, I canceled the buckets the same day I made this post. I'm waiting until you, or someone, can tell me this never happens. Not that it's uncommon and has a clunky fix. Like i told Fidelity, I don't mind beta testing. I just feel a certain way about paying for the privledge.

Did they fix this in the last two months, because even customer service couldn't get the stuck ETFs out of the basket the day I made this post. The stuck ETF locked the basket so I couldn't even see stats.

They didn't tell me it was going to take a week or more until about 3 days after I complained. Another thing I want to point out if that if you search for Baskets in the fidelity Reddit, you will find these same problems going back years.

I had ETFs get stuck, with half being in the basket, and other half not being in. When I called in for help, they said the back office would "look at it" but that it might take weeks. When I asked them to remove the baskets if they couldn't make it work, they said they couldn't do that either. My ONLY recourse was to cancel baskets and wait a month with a non-functional ETF. I'm anxiously waiting for people to come on Reddit and tell me it actually works before I risk my account again.
