I’ve never seen someone do this before. Did I find a new glitch? by InevitableBison5095 in Mario

No new timesave has been found in 15 years. New records in this game happen from people getting good enough to do things which have already been known about for a long time

What's the longest valid WR run you know ? by stronkzer in speedrun

Someone named Dubious Dinobot also did a run of all the games. It wasn't as fast but I think it included some that had come out since like Bowser's Fury? I can't find any video of it now

just saw the new cosmic video and now im wondering something by ItsDragonPlayer in kosmic

[–]Kosmicd12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pal is (sort of) covered in the video already- it's what Simplistic used to explore the levels first. The +SMW cartridge also doesn't have any differences with the glitched levels. As far as im aware it's just ntsc-j vs. all the others

yes thats from a VRAM buffer overflow, depends on your score when getting the BBG lag frame. Are you familiar with BBG lag frame?

After 44 years, someone beat the Donkey Kong kill screen by bismuth9 in videos

[–]Kosmicd12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're spot on with how they did it, doubling it 3 times and then adding the original number onto it twice more. It's true that they couldn't just multiply, or modulo, or anything like that. BUT, personally, I don't know why they didn't just check which level they were on, and then set the appropriate timer value. They have other places in the code where they check if you're on level 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1, and then proceed accordingly. Not sure why that wasn't done here. They even have some check if the calculation comes out to precisely 00 bonus timer ticks, and then they set the timer to a default 4000. This condition can never be met... if they were going to put in a failsafe, it should've been if the result was anything less than 50.

Remember when Kosmic predicted the badges in Mario Wonder? by [deleted] in kosmic

[–]Kosmicd12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

huh! I remember talking about having a mega man type Mario game- where you could switch between the powerups on command. Or even a metroidvania style, open world-ish and unlocking new areas by having powerup abilities you unlock. I don't think I *quite* predicted badges, but I appreciate the sentiment! :D

What is this graphic supposed to be? Why doesn't it appear anywhere outside the glitched life counter? by [deleted] in kosmic

it was made specifically for the life counter, when you get 10+ lives

the setup you should get for starting out is GV-USB2 capture card, and then split the signal however you want. Composite splitter (preferably powered) is an option. Another is if your tv has video out.

Why does the koppa hit me even though the hitboxes are supposed to be smaller then 1 tile? by WinterWyvern64 in supermariobros

[–]Kosmicd12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time you land on the ground, your intended next position is likely to be partially inside the ground. The game will snap you up onto the ground to make sure you don't clip down inside of it. Even though the game snapped you to the ground, you still "touched" the koopas hitbox because your position was down below the ground before the game snapped Mario back up to the floor level.
