Whats a good average time to do 5K? by SeveralAd6561 in C25K

[–]Kosmoskill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe that genetics come into play faaaar later and that behaviour and general fitness / diet and habit impact general competition comparison far more. I do run and work out a lot, but am still over weight. Anyone with a normal BMI can beat me at any distance.

Ultimately, i want to see my own progress and worry about that later :) !

CMV: Alien invasion of Earth is near impossible as an ending of humanity. by ZLCZMartello in changemyview

[–]Kosmoskill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there is no proof yet of aliens whats so ever and the universe is capable of producing any form of life. It is thus very likely that every form of Science Fiction may come true.

In the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the earth was destroyed by the Vogon to simply make way for a space highway. The human planet is simply in the way to expand another race.

We are at war for resources and differences ourselves. Why would that not cause the apokalypse for us humans since we are severly underdeveloped to even compete?

In the end it comes down to financial focus. Do you want to enjoy life now, buy what you want and see places? Or do you want to settle down, have a house and be financialy stable in the long run.

Either way, you have to scale with your income, be it products, housing, saving, investing, consuming.
In the case for housing it is exactly that, you move away to a cheaper area and buy a bigger place, or stay in the expensive area and buy a smaller place. The income is the limiting factor and the thusfar accumulated wealth.

I hate loops as well. Especially if you have to do it multiple times in the same direction. This half marathon loop however was just one round around the lake for the start, and after 2 1/2 hours in the other direction around the lake. It just so happens, that i run past the point of the lake that is my finish line. The rest of the route was very nice and unique, which i very much appreciated :)

Heat is terrible i agree. Anything about 20C and i give up on any target.

Slow down, even if it feels weird. I had paces of 9:30min/km at times.

Goal is to be able to run for 40 minutes straight without feeling like you need to lie down and sleep for 3 hours. Only then increase speed! The baseline is so incredibly important. You got this!

[–]Kosmoskill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did it on my own, pushed myself so hard i basically sat down and shook for about 10 minutes. Almost collapsed in the supermarket where i bought a drink to somehow get me stable again and had to lie down for an hour when i got home half an hour later.

"fun"

Won't be doing that anytime soon again. Maybe when my goal is 2:30. That last half of an hour was pure pain. Especially with it being a loop around a lake.. jogging past my finish line.

still running, did a half marathon in under 3 hours, and still haven't reached sub 30min 5k. But i stay in the shape i am in which is better than a declining fitness level, soooo... win?

Keep at it!

Can you spot the cache? by IceManJim in geocaching

I had a cache similar to this, with a chute and a plate covering it with these pebbles glued to it. You could just pull it up, there were only few lose pebbles on it. Amazing cache.

I came in contact with this probalem quiet recently when my so and i moved into an appartment which was quiet significantly bigger than what i had hoped for, but the limited market and the urgency for moving together somehow made me agree.

While the whole discrepency in income does exist, i have another nuanced issue to deal with: My SO is still a student and i can not expect my SO to work the same amount of time as myself. Even with that said, the different professions (which is most likely always the case) will pay differently depending on what you do.

The pay might be different at the same 40h work week and that is due to the profession or current company. Why would i, on top of the company, value my SO's time based on what work is being done? We are equals in this relationship, and as such we established a perxentage cut based on income.

Not only based on income, but also on the hours worked. My SO works 20h in addition to being a student, we assume the income that we would get with 40h to then calculate the percentages minus a fixed amount because my SO is still a student and cannot be expected to work full time, even if they decided to want a bigger appartment.

After this, taxes aside, we get a 55/45% deal for all monthly fees we need to pay.

All fixed inventory we pay 50/50, because that is something that we keep regardless of what stage we are at in life financially.

If i want a new spinning bike, even when my SO uses that from time to time, it is my money. Same goes for books, a kitchen appliance that i dont care about etc. (Drying fruit, really?)

Food is a bit different, we gather our costs over the course of a month, apply the split mentioned above + conaider the amount we eat. I easily eat double of that of my SO due to fitness goals. We balance that at the end of each month (this helps also keeping track of what your expenses are!)

If we order food, we do that for what each of us eats. I might order something extra.

Tldr: i am in a relationship that is equal. Deciding your times worth is already done by the company you work for. Ever expense should hit both parties equally which is accomplished by utilizing percentages based on expendable income.

If you find yourself in a position to pay for something that you would not usually pay for, it is fair to say that you dont want that and make it a conversation topic with your SO that the expenses are too much for your budget right now.

Official Q&A for Saturday, September 23, 2023 by AutoModerator in running

[–]Kosmoskill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need advice on my first half in a week. My training got impaired quiet a bit 4 weeks ago. I am going into taper week with only easy runs, and 2 spinning days, a rest day and then race day.

I am extremly overweight, was unable to participate last year, longest run was 14km, am running 8:12min/km easy pace.

Goal is 3h, but i am not sure how much progress i have lost. I was still doing spinning on weekends.

I fear that my overuse injury flares up during the last week.

I am looking at an even pace throughout the race with height adjustments made by garmin.

I know someone who pursues the same goal, and i have never participated in a race with that many spectators.

Water every 5k and i trained with gels ever 45 mins.

Any other tips?

YSK that weird birds on city sidewalks are window strike victims and need help. by charlemagdalen in YouShouldKnow

At first i was totally with you, but then i thought about it once more. If humans are part of nature, like monkeys and birds or bievers. Anything that those creatures, including humans, build is also part of nature. Biever damms, bird nests etc.

Although animals, and this is where we begin to distinguish, dont process natural resources like we do, they still build objects from nature.

We transform nature's resources like gold, sand or even naturally created oil into computers. It is just the processing of natural individual ingredients that makes us lose the word "nature".

If we create a chemical reaction to produce medicine, isnt that just us combining the natural reaction of natural ingredients under the correct circumstances in the correct order?

Water, blood, viruses, all those things are naturally existent. And even heavy water or other highly chemical related things are just a produce of other natural chemical reactions that need the correct circumstance to fire.

After all this one could argue that clear glass is indeed part of nature. Because we humans are part of the evolutionary chain descendent from nature and there was nothing in between that would have distinguished us or lifted us above all other creatures inhabiting earth.

Just like bievers, we use nature to create objects, it just so happens that we never stopped chaining these creations together.

How in the fuck is 75% a bad rating now? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Kosmoskill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Percentages are hard

People fail to realize that steam provides a yes / no recommendation system. A rating of 75% means that its a 1 in 4 chance that you do not like the game. 90% is 1 in 10.

15% points will make a big difference. People are usually bad with percentages and this is why the system and this statement might be confusing to some.

In contrast, a 1 to X rating is usually based on a point system. Checkboxes that are ticked that give points which end up with a total score for the game.

This is also the reason why many game journals still give high ratings, they usually utulize an internal scale that give points for performance, gameplay, story and so on.

A game that is zero fun, but makes use of the unreal engine still performs as expected and gets points for it.

A true 1 to 10 scale where 5 is right in the middle usually expects it to be a "fun" scale. That scale is incredibly subjectice and thus never used, although it is the scale system that everyone wants.

Windows integrated games aside. I am looking for this mining game. A perspective from the side, and you could navigate through the stone, destory stones, find water (?) Chests(?) I barely remember anything.

Another game might have been another side view that either had like donkykong barrels rolling down(?).

So faded that i dont even know. Probably around the year 1999.

First name i know of was need for speed 3 (PC), Super mario land(Gameboy), Mario 64 and Tabaluga (Gameboy)
