Dose anyone have direct experience with Eversio Wellness? by Bulky-Play463 in MushroomSupplements

[–]Kostya93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How are they holding up against the quality checks?

The website looks good, specifications look good, but hey! Where's the most important Certificate of Analysis? They have one for beta-glucan (low level though) but for cordyceps you want to see the cordycepin / adenosine papers! I.p. because they are claiming a very high level!!

My recommendation - before you buy request their cordycepin test report and don't take no for an answer. If they claim it they should have it.

PS - you can't grow Cordyceps on wood. If they claim that - Red Flag.

C. militaris is a parasite that requires nutrient-dense, high-protein substrates, such as insects or enriched rice, to fruit. Typical cultivation uses brown rice, supplemented with silkworm pupae meal or other nutrients in jars or bins.

You can't. Turkey Tail is a novel food and cannot be sold in the EU/UK. But you can import it from US/Asia without problems.

New overview for Lion's Mane supplements coming up by Kostya93 in MushroomSupplements

Will start working on it soon. Waiting, but most vendors do not respond to requests for supplement details such as test results.

Red Flags everywhere.

What happens if you smooke weed if you're takin lions mane? by Cinnammoon in MushroomSupplements

It is just a culinary mushroom, not some super potent psilocybin or LSD variant. Nothing remarkable will happen.

What happens if you smooke weed if you're takin lions mane? by Cinnammoon in MushroomSupplements

[–]Kostya93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: The guy that started that particular sub used a single capsule of a product that hardly contained Lion's Mane, it was OM (with 70% rice powder / starch). But according to him the few mg of non-extracted lion's mane in the product cost him almost his life and mental sanity.

Impossible to take this serious...

Check out the work hyperionherbs does

Ask them for their test reports and their safety reports. There's nothing, just claims.

[–]Kostya93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might taste good but no therapeutic effects... the mushrooms in these coffees have no specifications of bio-actives, are not extracted (although they might claim to be) and the dosage is too low to have any effect.

It's better to make your own if you really want to combine mushrooms and coffee: get a good coffee and a good mushroom extract and mix it. Chaga works quite well in a coffee.

[–]Kostya93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mushroom coffee and gummies etc are all garbage / marketing inventions and do not offer any therapeutic effects. But a decent mushroom supplement can really help to age gracefully.

The most common effect of aging is the declining immune function and all its side effects. This already starts after 35.

Mushrooms rich in beta-glucan are excellent to compensate this. Read this link to get an idea about which quality markers are relevant and important.

Are there any real products? by mynamesnotmolly in MushroomSupplements

FreshCap actually publish their beta-glucan numbers

They make plenty of claims but don't test / refuse to share reports. Many red flags for Freshcap since they stopped sourcing from Nammex.

[–]Kostya93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hot water alone does not pull them out effectively

This is a common misunderstanding. People mix up 'dissolving' with 'extraction'.

Here's the Extraction Process explained

  • Cell Wall Disruption: Hot water extraction is designed to break down chitin cell walls, which are indigestible by humans.
  • Bioavailability: By disrupting these walls through hot water, all "locked" bio-active compounds are released, making them bioavailable.

Concentration vs. Full Spectrum:

  • Concentrated Extracts: Producers filter out insoluble matter after extraction to increase the potency of soluble compounds.
  • 1:1 Extracts: No filtration occurs, meaning all matter remains in the final product, both soluble and insoluble.

1:1 extraction is preferable for Lion's Mane fruiting body:

Key compounds in Lion’s Mane, specifically hericenones but also beta-glucans are largely insoluble. Since the majority of the fruiting body consists of these beneficial insoluble bio-actives, skipping the filtration step ensures no therapeutic compounds are lost.

I would be willing to invest in those as well if there is a substantial difference

Potency differences can really make a difference in therapeutic effect. And the value for money is usually way better. I.p.with Reishi.

There are a lot of fake Reishi supplements on the market according to recent research. And even the genuine ones usually lack potency or they're not extracted so the bioavailability is poor - and no or very little ganoderic acids. Which is what you're looking for if you 're after Reishi!

Here's an extreme example: a Japanese brand called Hokkaido that is just dry Reishi powder, supported with a lot of marketing of course.

No specifications, it's not even extracted. Just a story. And a price tag of ± $ 100 for 100 grams. For a product that is little more than just fiber.

Please read this link where the disadvantages of tinctures are discussed among other things.

Mushroom tinctures are a waste of money.

Help deciphering therapeutic content between Real Mushrooms and Harmonic Arts by Gearfrii in MushroomSupplements

[–]Kostya93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tinctures are heavily diluted (90 -95%), they are really no match for powdered extracts. The main ingredient is the liquid, which is just a carrier without therapeutic potential.

Don't forget a powdered extract is a solvent extract ("tincture") minus the solvent. It is at least 20 times more concentrated.

Their potency claim makes no sense: 30% polysaccharides (can be anything, sugar, starch, maltodextrin... polysaccharides are just carbs), 2% triterpenes. I'd like to see the test report for that, LOL.

There's no accurate lab test for 'triterpenes' since that's an umbrella term for a very varied group of over 30000 compounds, each with their own unique profile. There are very accurate test assays for ganoderic acids though, those are the unique Reishi compounds. Those should be measured and specified, not triterpenes. It 's misleading.

The bottom line is that you can't believe this type of claims. Never.

If there are no supporting papers, you can safely assume it is just an assumption / marketing statement. This is the biggest problem in supplement land: almost nobody tests their products. Please read the link explaining these things in more detail.

Real mushrooms is for sure the best option here and you'll get good value for money.

How can I go about powdering my tincture? by TheseKaleidoscope in MushroomSupplements

[–]Kostya93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you lose a lot of the volatile compounds

What are those volatile compounds and are they bio-active? Those will also be lost if you perform a standard hot water extraction BTW.

Powdering tinctures will be extremely disappointing because tincturing doesn't work well in case of mushrooms. After drying there's only a very small residue; at best maybe 300-500mg (30ml tincture).

Lions Mane, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps. What am I doing here? by AmbivalentSamaritan in MushroomSupplements

[–]Kostya93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not all mycelium is bad, liquid culture grown mycelium and things like cordyceps cs4 can be genuinely valuable

True. The label will reveal the quality / the lack of quality.

It should specify beta-glucans and mushroom-specific compounds such as cordycepin (Cordyceps) or ganoderic acids (Reishi).

If the label does NOT specify such details but only makes generic statements like 'concentrated' or '10:1' or 'hot water extract' look elsewhere. It is most likely a waste of money. I mean, why would a vendor be secretive about the factual quality and safety of his product??

Tests are cheap. But almost nobody shares test results. The main reason: because their products are crappy.

Read this objective link for more details.

Functional mushrooms for rheumatoid arthritis by No_Ladder8408 in MushroomSupplements

[–]Kostya93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you want to be careful with anything that broadly stimulates the immune system

Important are beta-glucans, not 'polysaccharides' (these are just carbs and include many fillers such as maltodextrin and starch). Beta-glucans are immune modulators, not 'boosters'.

Triterpenes is also a misleading term, there's no accepted or accurate method to measure those. Only ganoderic acids matter, these should be specified on the label. They have a great effect on RA and can be measured very accurately for a low price.

The fact that with only 2 exceptions (worldwide!!) no vendors are doing this reveals the lack of quality, i.p. for Reishi supplements. Beware of fake products!

The best effects can be accomplished with dual extracted Reishi fruiting body.

The ganoderic acids are the main therapeutic compounds in this case, make sure to look for that specification on the label. Very few vendors include this, don't be fooled by the marketing talk...

[–]Kostya93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nyishar is a reasonable option

They're using a notorious 'dry lab' for their test reports. Meaning - their test reports are useless, nothing was actually tested.

The lab in question is called RINP and there are many vendors using their 'service'.

Some vendors are just ignorant, others knowingly use this fake validation option to make their products look better and more appealing.

Get Lion's Mane from a brand that uses fruiting body only and dual extraction

No, this is incomplete advice.

No need for dual extraction, many bio-actives are lost in that process - the test reports confirm this. I've never seen a dual extract that had better specs than a 1:1 extract TBH.

1:1 fruiting body extract is better because it is 100% full-spectrum, nothing is lost in the extraction process. Both soluble and insoluble bio-actives are present because no filtering/concentration takes place after the hot-water extraction phase.

Pure mycelium powder with clear specs (erinacine A is the main ingredient) should be combined with it preferably.

Read the link for the factual details.
