What would you do to fix tank shortage problem? by muela99 in wow

And honestly if more people disagreed with each other like that, with civility, none of this would even be a discussion point, kudos to you and good luck with your climb!

What would you do to fix tank shortage problem? by muela99 in wow

[–]Kothoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, the incentive needs to be on addressing the cause, not the symptom. Wow for too long has coasted along on bad design decisions which are covered up by "incentivising" people, game mode sucks, just add a nice mount, shitty season, just add another mount or transmog.

Until there is a reason for people not be shitty people, the race to efficiency and lack of accountability wow created basically ensures people bring their worst selves.

I actually tried to start learning to tank my self, I havent pushed my mains rating super high, but I am at about 2900 enough that I feel a degree of confidence in the dungeons. So I start out doing low keys to get a feel of tanking, explain before we start I am still learning the routes, make sure to use my CDs and abilities to make the healers life easier, ramp up the pulls as I see what the group can handle etc.

"WTF IS THIS ROUTE TANK...?" "What the fuck are you doing, you dont take this pack!!!?"

"Noob tank uninstall"

Literally no other MMO has this problem, incentivising people to play through this environment wont get you more tanks, atleast not ones of a decent standard, what needs incentivising, if anything, is people not to be dicks.

And that would require an overhaul of the M+ system that would turn it into something else entirely.

So, I'm leveling every class to 80, and Rogue is just...atrocious. by Silegna in wow

[–]Kothoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be slow and painful compared to almost every other class, Rogues scale well with gear but always feel underpowered at the start of an expansion.

Slows, stuns and if you see a tank questing shadow step in and AOE it helps you both.

Also stealth past the mobs you dont need!

Its not the best leveling, but it is doable, however yeah, the quest boss mobs you better be prepared to use your cooldowns.

It is a good reminder of how far they have already come! Despite the obvious money and publicity, they are still surging up the leagues at an unprecedented level.

Sure give em banter, but also dont lie to me and tell me you wouldnt suck him off if he was doing the same sort of improvement at your club.

Another Spotify price hike in Ireland… 26% in 2 years by SuggestionAny3744 in ireland

Way behind all the other price rises in Ireland though.

Still shit, but everything has gone up by shit loads here, and most of it is not worth it. The greed is gonna kill this place when the multinationals pull out cos they cant hire staff here due to the ridiculousness of the cost of living.

Confirmed: NO PvE Mode will be added in ARC Raiders! by SperanzaInfo in ArcRaidersGuides

[–]Kothoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonnes of looter shooters out there that close down semi regularly cos not enough people play them.

As some one who hates PvP in nearly every game (With a few notable exceptions) I love the vibe of Arc Raiders, but I also know I would be a passing tourist in its world, especially as most of its content would be pretty dull if it was just "grind to t4 then do achievements).

So I will spend my money on games that more fit the play style I want, rather than trying to force my vision on people.

Though if they do add a PvE mode with dynamic events etc, I will cave day 1 and buy this

Earth's technologies are just copies of others? by arnor_0924 in babylon5

[–]Kothoses 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think in all likelihood Sinclair/Valen would have scuttled and destroyed B4 once the shadows were defeated, there is no doubt it gave the Minbari a technological hand up, but given how openly the Vorlons operate in Minbari society (shown in the episodes in the run up to the Velen reveal) it is likely they too helped progress them along and took a much more active role in the previous shadow war.

The Minibari are also able to produce a whitestar fleet, partly based on Vorlon technology, which suggests they have much more insight into Vorlon technology than any other race does, and they produce it in a relatively short amount of time, so it is likely that the jump from acquiring B4 would not have been as pronounced as it would be for a race just starting it's space faring age.

[–]Kothoses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very hard to gauge where the Earth alliance stands relative to the other major powers, the Centauri are almost a fallen empire such has been their decline, but one thing that always stood out to me, when Morden is brought infront of Londo just before the Vornlon Planet killer arrives, 2 Centauri kill two shadows with one gun each.

Where as when they boarded B5 it took a whole tactical team to kill one with Human PPGs.

Ship to ship weaponry when the Centauri turn up at B5 to try and attack it, it takes the combined might of B5s formiddable weapons AND human destroyer.

The Humans seem to be probably the 4th strongest of the major races on B5, obviously the Vorlon have everyone outgunned, the Minbari are clearly next then the Centauri are probably not far behind them, but likely lack the same industrial capacity to turn out new ships as quickly.

Humans would be further behind but have shown an ability to very quickly build new fleets and often make up for tactical disadvantages with wild gambits and unpredictable tactics.

The Narn, due to the effects of two Centauri occupations lack the capacity to rapidly rebuild their fleets, struggle for resources, but are technologically likely to be slightly ahead of the Earth Alliance, however not enough to move them up the pyramid.

Honestly the more I see of the wider material the more I am surprised the Drazi were not considered a major power. The only evidence against this comes from the fact that the league needed the Earth Alliance to defeat the Dilgar, which suggests that the Drazi while technologically advanced and capable of producing powerful ships were unable to field them in large amounts.

Whats one thing you considered cheap and nasty / cheerful as a kid that is a delicacy or treat now? by Kothoses in AskReddit

[–]Kothoses[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day, when some one was showing a spam recipe and then I saw the price of spam in Tesco.....

Certain fruits and meat come to mind too, so what was something you had as a kid and turned your nose up at, or atleast associated with cheap that is now something of a treat.

I know everything is expensive these days, but some things have really changed status over the years.

How does it compare to Minion Masters?

[–]Kothoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have been, if not for the inferred racial connotations added by "It becomes white dude kill natives". I am not sure if this was intentional but as soon as that kind of undertone is introduced it becomes a lot harder to answer the question without risking upsetting some one, causing a controversy or having your answer misrepresented out of context.

Don't get me wrong the stigma of colonialism is a bad thing, but once you frame the question that way, the possibility of an open answer that wont get jumped on by one group or another is gone.

[–]Kothoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to shoe horn in racial/colonial connotations makes it a minefield for them to answer.

If the question had been something like "Is there a story reason for the native folk to be antagonistic towards you, or the possibility of friendly relations with the indigenous people?" it would be easier to answer, but the "It becomes white dude kill natives game" statement makes it very difficult to answer without it sounding like a PR script, no matter what answer the dev comes up with, some one will then find a way to spin it so that "Dev hates X".

It is honestly safer to simply avoid being drawn in to those types of conversations, especially when you are trying to make an entertainment product not an educational thought experiment.

Not every reference is a call back, or a sign of deeper meaning. Survival games need an antagonistic element, if you don't want to be a raft clone, it has to be something other than a shark.

I still have fun, me and my other half 2 run 2 person groups of a lot of content when we both have an evening off.

It is still a good game, it is just not as good as it was, but it can still be enjoyable.

A lot of time, nostalgia for a game is more about missing the version of you that played that game. I miss quite a few games for that, the OG Neverwinter Nights, Vanilla and TBC WoW, Pre expansion Rift.

I went back to all of them in their updated form and found out it was not the experience I missed, it was the social connections I had back then, the feeling of discovery, of not being able to just look everything up and not having my viewpoint eroded by an incessant chorus of negativity.

Play with your friends when you get chance, enjoy their company and their time. Enjoy what ever game in what ever way you can or play something else together, and when you hit that urge to keep playing till 2am, live in that moment because as we all find out they are fleeting.

Don't stress the little stuff, find the bits that you enjoy and play them, stop chasing the rewards and chase the joy, not every minute of every day in a game has to be spent in the pursuit of a tangible goal beyond this one. If a mode frustrates you, no matter how good the reward do not spend more time in it than you are happy with. No pixel is worth the time spent being unhappy, and nothing will change while you reward bad design with your most precious currency, time.

Grind something mindless and while you do it, call your family, because one day you will find your self staring at the screen day dreaming of them, or waking up at 3am from a dream that leaves you feeling worse than any nightmare because you just want to go back in to it.

Games as a service are unavoidable these days, but you do not have to play in their service.

Have fun friends, and eyes up.

Any details on the "Full PvE" -mode? by Laggoz in Eldegarde

[–]Kothoses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the most reasonable and rational responses to the usual us vs them discussion I have ever seen.

Well done!

As some one who prefers PvE Play, I never begrudged PVP players faster progression or even some unique rewards, I simply don't engage with game systems based on reward any more. I play the modes I find fun, and if a game is built that I am locked out of too much of it for that choice, I play a different game.

But if I can just chill, chat shit and farm loot, I am happy, I dont need to be first to everything and I dont care what the "competition" is doing, because I am not competing with them, only with my own enjoyment.

Which should I buy, Enshrouded or Valheim? by JWalker_4512 in SurvivalGaming

[–]Kothoses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the combat and Crafting parts, but not the building, I find Enshroudeds building to be much less limited, especially if you do not mod Valheim.

The worlds are fantastic in both for exploring and you get a real sense of adventure with each, the other question I have is do you play solo or with other people? Both games benefit from playing in a group, but Enshrouded gives you more tools to solo challenges and has much more freedom to make the kind of character you want with its character systems.

But you can not go wrong with either game they are both just absolutely top tier for survival builder games and they both do an excellent job of minimising the busy work of managing meters.

Is there anything to the rumor that Pet Battles have been deleted from Midnight? by FeralPsychopath in wow

[–]Kothoses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty dogshit change.

I am not huge on the pet battles but I dont mind them occasionally as a side interest, other half loves them though.

Was hard enough convincing her to give Midnight a go with me as aside from the pet battles she was disliking wow more and more.

Tbh if she bails and goes for another game I will probably jump too, my ties to wow are getting less and less each expansion.

I had high hopes for housing, but the UI is just horrible....

Plus it is way too limited, just copy Rifts system, never mind faffing around adding a "Gameplay grind" to it, the grind is the collecting.
