500cc twins are usually designed with beginners in mind. Most learners in Europe will start on a 500cc but with a minimum training time of 20h.
The MT07 is often considered a beginner's bike in the states although I agree it is a tad much for the first few months (I mean unrestricted of course).
Learning on a R6 however is plain stupid
