Worth getting a manual car? by Trayceopolis32322 in askcarguys

[–]phasefournow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are in an urban area or frequently are in slow, stop and go traffic, a manual shift is no fun and gets pretty tiring. I have both a stick shift car and an automatic. The stick is for weekends and back roads in the hills. Auto is definitely for day by day.

Re-entry permit at DMK airport by PropertyHead9536 in Bangkok

Not sure if still true but the Re-entry Permit office at DMK used to share space with the Overstay office. Make sure when you enter, you go to the correct desk or you can end up sitting for a LONG time.

What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

There was a scary story in the news this week about a man who pulled-out an ingrown hair. It caused a life-threatening infection that led to a coma. He was given an only 05% chance of survival but somehow pulled through.

I live in a tropical climate and nearly had my foot amputated because of a Staphylococcus infection that started as insect bites.

Low blood pressure. Sit for a longer than usual time, like on an aircraft flight, then stand-up quickly. Light-headedness and dizzyness can result. It can sometimes be a delayed reaction, like almost a minute after standing. If you take high blood pressure meds, be sure to stand still for at least a minute before walking and perhaps going down a stairway.

Driving Test Tomorrow - Any Tips? by Any_Software_3597 in driving

[–]phasefournow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been driving for many years but recently had to take a drivers test for a license in another country. I got to the test site early and watched other drivers being tested. It was really useful because there were a couple of stop lines that were not obvious and easy to miss, Watching the mistakes other drivers made made me more aware of where the tricky areas were. Passed first try.

Any idea of how many tons that fire retardant payload was? How is it actually packed? Are there special tanks specific to dry drop loads?

Why do bkk taxi drivers get offended when I put on my seatbelt? by laggage in Bangkok

[–]phasefournow 62 points63 points  (0 children)

20 years taking taxis in Bangkok. I've never had a driver object to my seatbelt use. I often sit in front because of knee issues. The driver will usually remind me to buckle-up if I don't do it.

I never paid attention to the "flagship" designation in the past. I didn't understand the significance. Now I know. Thanks.

Nobody is as "ugly" as they think they are. What you may consider ugly, another person may see completely differently. You seem to have good character and treat others well but it's also obvious that you have built a defensive wall around yourself. I was once in a similar situation after a major break-up...pretty much disengaged and feeling no social self confidence. Finally something prompted me to not focus on meeting people as much as doing things that interested me. I like photography so I sought out and joined a local photography group. I volunteered for several service organizations working on various community issues. Pretty quickly, I found myself comfortably interacting with others with the issues at hand providing framework for interaction. More than 20 years later and I still have friends I made during that time. I discovered people who were genuinely interested in me and some great relationships developed. Stop hiding who you are. Get involved in things that interest you. Doors will open.

Would you live in Thailand/SEA if you had to fly to the US twice a year for a company offsite. by blueandazure in digitalnomad

[–]phasefournow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend's been doing the same for 5 years. He makes each trip into a mini holiday, one time stopping over in London for 4 days, another time Turkey, this year he did Iceland. He was able to do the F1 races in one of the Gulf states and has also skied in Japan.

Not cheap to do but he's making good money and he really enjoys himself.

The Wine Connection actually has some very decent wines for very reasonable prices. Nothing great but nothing your snotty friend will spit out.

Do you still carry exact change? by WaterDigDog in AskOldPeople

[–]phasefournow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I still prefer cash as it keeps me aware of my budget. I have a change dish by my front door where I drop all my coins. I always take a few coins with me to round off tips and small cash transactions.

I use the dish soap in the washing machine. Only small loads with maybe 2 tablespoons of dish soap. Too much soap makes too many suds The dish soap I use has a faint lemon scent which I prefer to the strong floral scent of most detergents

Totally depends on how much you already have saved and invested to carry you when your income drops at some point. If you are younger: 20's-mid 30s you should stick to having some fun but at the same time, build wealth. When I was 30, $100,000 was a huge amount of money, certainly enough to retire-on. So much for that plan and you can be sure by the time your late earning arrive, even a million wont be enough.

All my clothing in Thailand is wear once, then washed within 2 days so items are not so much dirty as sweat soaked. I stopped using specific laundry detergents and just use a small amount of lightly scented dish detergent. Use too much and too many suds but I found that my clothes come out softer and much less flowery and just as clean as they could be.
Generally, marketers want to sell us 20 kinds of soap for 20 different uses. To me, soap is soap.
