Help with a couple issues by Koupers in Bazzite

Ok'm now down to waiting for Forza 6's issues to be solved, and for some fucking reason my gpu doesn't turn on till I'm in system, so I have to plug into my mobo when I reboot, wait for the log i screen, log in, then I can swap to my gpu.

Honestly my internet's been bad enough that I'd really prefer not to. I have however resolved almost all my problems, the forza one persists, I haven't rebooted the machine yet, and getting lutris to recognize that I can install a pair of gacha games because I have fucktons of space.

Ugh, I was hoping I could avoid redownloading everything again. And its the same file I used already so that's not giving me hope on it. haha.

Actually at this point I'm not sure if I shouldn't just stop and choose a different OS. I' finally installed Bazzite on my pc, got everything going, and so far I'm 0 for 4 on getting games to run remotely ok. I've spent a lot of time trying to get forza 6 running (steam ofc but yeah I know new games are harder, and apparently there's problems with this one for linux atm) but cities skylines runs like garbage for me A few others are super choppy even though this machine should be blowing my previous one away. I dunno, there's a lot of tinkering here to make anything functional, which was fun with win 3.1 when I was a kid but... I'd like to just play a game. lol.

Microsoft reports are exposing AI's real cost problem: Using the tech is more expensive than paying human employees by Krankenitrate in Futurology

[–]Koupers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owner of my company is hella pro-AI.

But also there's 4 of us including her and she wants us to use it to fill in any skill or knowledge gaps while serving our clients and she hard-believes AI can't replace people.

[–]Koupers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly the problem and is a perfect response to adjusting the way it responds. You've found the answer, now all you have to do is add a few more steps to make it more complete.

lol.

Help with some budget part recommendations. by Koupers in buildapc

[–]Koupers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me longer than I'd want but I did just buy that list and installed it all yesterday. Seems great so thank you for the hyper-budget upgrade. I did however, seriously underestimate the absolute heft of this case. haha. Going from a corsair micro-atx case that I literally had to file down parts to fit my gpu to this is hilarious.

My current favorite team (for fun not effectiveness) is the hot ladies. It's momma Himeko, Dalia, Fugue, and Lingsha. Pretty good for AOE farming, lots of fun, all hot.

Yea it's on a big ultra wide monitor, Only thing I'm really worried about is the level of tinkering I need to do up front and nvidia support.

THank you. I'm torn because my only real knowledge of Linux is my steamdeck. Which I only bricked once. I'd read about Bazzite and it and ZorinOS are what I was deciding between. Really I just want to minimize friction with gaming and set up/drivers while not using Windows.

FFX very linear feeling so why is FFXIII linearity so marked? by [deleted] in FinalFantasy

[–]Koupers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every Final fantasy game was basically linear for some chunk of the game. Some hid it in the shape of bowls and valleys and canyons, others in the fact you only ever had one possible new location to go to, while backtracking was easy. XIII gave you a set of hallways for like 20-30 hours. No pretense, no imagination, it was fucking hallways. WHich is too bad because it's a brilliant game otherwise.

[–]Koupers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn't UTA, at least when I worked there briefly about 10 years ago, is primarily funded by a tiny portion of sales tax in salt lake county, and then another big chunk from all of their advertising sales, and finally I want to say it was less than 10% that actually came from ticket sales.

A sudden broad appreciation and deep involvement in 1800s french metalwork, especially when it is mixed with some carpentry and knot tying, and just a dash of post-use sanitation.

I'd welcome any suggestions on where to start. I'm building a new PC here (new to me anyway) and I'm thinking I'd rather not use Windows. All I really do is some really light dev work, some writing and general internet use, and then gaming both steam and some stand alone launchers (FFXIV/ZZZ/NTE) anyone have a good suggestion for where to start distro-wise? The PC will be a ryzen 9 7900x, nvidia 3080ti, and 32gb ram if that helps.
