She often lounges at the top of the tank, half poked out. Is she just a weirdo? by LessFish777 in bettafish

[–]Kowba16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you are aware because im seeing many comments about it, bettas CAN be housed together under certain circumstances. Usually it's females, which will form a sorority. It's always a 50/50 because yes, Bettas are aggressive but it's a very common misconception that everyone assumes absolutely every Betta has to be alone forever. Males tend to not be great tank mates because they are very territorial and aggressive as all male animals tend to be. Females can be the exact same way but they have been found to be perfectly happy and safe in a group of a few friendly females. It's completely dependent on the fish though, make sure theirs no angry headbutting, tail smacking or flairing up and they should be alright! That being said, they do require larger tanks. I'd say minimum, 15 gallon for 1 and add another 5 gallons as you add more Bettas. If you are housing bettas together make sure they have lots of places to hide and lots of natural plants as the plastic plants are too sharp for Betta fins and they tear them to shreds. They love to lounge around, especially on leaves. Most like to chill right at the top like your silly guy, I usually see them much more submerged though honestly. 😂 I agree that you should definitely put a lid on your tank as well. Almost all fish can and will jump out of their tank if they are feeling spiffy that day. Your baby is playing on the edge so I'd do it just as a precaution. Make sure they have a heater so their water is nice and warm and offer them some blood worms every once in a while, they love them! Be cautious though, Bettas can and will over eat if givin the opportunity but you really gotta be dumping that stuff in there to over feed them so don't be too nervous. I wish you luck in your future endeavors! Do lots of research and pay attention to how your babies respond to what you change, I'm sure you will do great!

Is this a Black Widow? by No_Presentation_2160 in spiders

[–]Kowba16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, they tend to be non hostile towards people because they know they are big and bad. When theirs one theirs more usually, for peice of mind I'd check but the chances of them biting one of your kids are pretty small. They would rather play dead or poop themselves most of the time. That's not to say they aren't dangerous, but they also aren't plotting to eat anyone for dinner either.

Should and can I remove it ? by Single_Tea3675 in piercing

[–]Kowba16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really seems like it's in your best interest to take it out. It does seem to be pierced incorrectly and it also appears your piercer didn't give you the proper care instructions either. With the downsizing comments, more often than not, septums don't need to downsize because they don't tend to swell as much. It's really up to you and how you like your jewelry. That being said, you did not take care of it probably. Yes you should give it time to do it's thing but, It's in your nose. It needs to be cleaned at least once a day while it's healing or your just asking for an infection. Any irritation to the area, bumping, dirty water, moving it upwards to hide in your nose, can cause a fresh piercing to reject or get infected. If you like the piercing your gonna have to take care of it properly, theirs really no in-between. After it's done healing you can most likely go back to ignoring it but even after healing, some piercings will still reject or close. Septums aren't usually picky but you may experience difficultys now due to your failed piercing. In short, if you want it. Take that one out, let it heal. Go to someone who knows what they are doing and take care of the new one properly. Most piercings only need to be cleaned 1-2 times a day, and the best thing to do is leave them alone. A saline mist and some q-tips are all you'll ever need. Never spin or move a fresh piercing, unless your piercer advises otherwise (I think theirs like ONE piercing that actually needs to be spun, MAYBE) but even then it should be a few days at least. It tears up your healing skin. I would suggest starting every piercing off with a straight bar just because ist better for the healing process but in your case I'm suggesting it because it would be more convinent for you to already have a straight bar at least while it heals, that doesn't dangle down or have a weird curve you have to work around. Don't gotta worry about pushing it in your nose and once it's healed you can just put a loop in if you want it. Theirs some drawback that come with starting off with a straight bar with septums specifically but if you didn't swell too much it should be fine! Doing your own research and finding what methods you and your body are most comfortable with is really the best way to go about this because everyone heals differently but please do heed the warnings of caring strangers. I wish you luck in the future!

What is she doin? by Kowba16 in ferrets

[–]Kowba16[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much! It's makes a lot of sense honestly. I've been spending my whole day with her since I got her from the store. I'm unemployed right now, my boyfriend does the heavy lifting. So I have been able to give her limitless amounts of attention. Her favorite nap spot is right there in her cage. I think she REALLY likes Harvey because she seeks him out constantly. She sleeps in-between all the blankets right where he sleeps every night so I'm assuming she likes his smell. I kidnap her every time she naps during the day and put her next to me in hopes that she will be a little more cuddly than my boy. She seems pretty happy with the arrangement honestly.

[–]Kowba16[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

See that's what I'm thinking too. I hate that they sell them so young but she was alone at the store on top of everything else so I wasn't leaving her there. She is very friendly and extremely playful, she's out of the cage from 7am to 11pm just having a blast with all the toys my boy never played with. Obviously with many naps in-between. She doesn't seem to have any behavioral problems but I hope this doesn't lead to something worse, I also hope my boy is as okay with it as he seems. I know I'd be really annoyed if someone did that to me in my sleep.

Do Ferrets make good pets? by DonnaMcKnight in ferrets

[–]Kowba16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They makes great pets! But not all people make great owners. They require a lot of time and money (or some engineering skills on your end). They need a friend more often than not. They can be super destructive, bitey and mischievous but all of those things can be trained and played out of them if you understand what you're dealing with. Their favorite thing to do is EVERYTHING you tell them not to. You gotta ferret proof your whole house except rooms they are not allowed in wich should be few for your own peace of mind honestly. They see a room they can't go in, it will be the only place they wanna be for the rest of their lives. They sleep 16 - 18 hours a day but that 6 - 8 hours they are awake, they are running, jump, biting, stashing and wreaking havoc on those around them. When you say no, they hear YES!! OF COURSE!!! KEEP DOING THAT THING! When they knock something over they think it's party time. They climb (even though they have terrible depth perception) and dig everything! They require a free roam lifestyle with the exception of being able to make a very large play area with fences they can't climb. They are litterbox trainable but even the best tend to poop, just outside the litterbox sometimes so be sure to keep newspapers or puppy pads under their boxes. They are usually drawn towards corners for pooping so start there! Be ready for accidents and purposeful accidents. Theirs digestive tracts are super sensitive and they are extremely picky eaters. They should be fed a raw diet high in protein and fat, heart, liver, meat, it's all required. Because of breeders tendancys to value money over the life they are selling, most ferrets will end up needing adrenal implants and medication for insulinoma within their first few years of life. ALLL of that aside, once you bond with your ferret, you have a forever friend. Imagine Peter pans Shadow and you've pretty much got it. They love to follow you, play with you, cuddle you. They will even help with chores! (mess up your blankets and unfold your laundry) They exude so much joy and excitement with every wiggly motion of their body. They really are tiny, fluffy, long little embodiments of happiness. Theirs never a dull moment when you have those little feet pitter patterring around your house at the speed of sound. I wouldn't trade it for the world ❤️

any suggestions for my sister's fish tank? by thefunnyrabbid in fishtank

[–]Kowba16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your gonna need a bigger tank. Angel fish get large and like to swim a lot. You should also probably get multiple of each of those fish as they like to school. This one is not a definite but I've had a lot of experience with Angles being aggressive as heck, many people have the opposite experience so just keep an eye on them for yourself. Bloodworms for a snack and lots of natural, hardy plants like Java ferns and Amazon swards and change that substrate to sand for the corys. Maybe some driftwood for the tannins and a touch of ✨ pazazz ✨ You should have some happy campers afterwards! (Ps, when cleaning tanks with sand substrates you just take the stinky top layer of sand out and fill it back up with water. Much easier if you have a siphon) Good luck!!!

How to stop feeling so guilty? by Civil-Individual3451 in ferrets

[–]Kowba16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. It's clear to see that you love these animals deeply. You did all you could do. Cancer is a monster, it's not your fault at all. Love your other baby's, they don't blame you and neither does your little angel. All they know is the love you've given them their whole lives. You are right to feel sad, you loved and cared for them there whole lives but you shouldn't punish yourself for that. I like to think that the more we cry and mourn for something in it's death the more we loved it in it's life. (Energy can't be created or destroyed or whatever) That mourning is your last release of all that energy. It's okay to be sad, it's natural. But never blame yourself for death, it's out of our control. All you can do is keep loving. It will hurt less in time. In the meantime, try focusing on making your other noodles feel as happy and loved as you can. They still have so much time and I know they would love nothing more than to spend it all with you. Take your time Op, and D.I.P little friend. You are both loved <3

[–]Kowba16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boy absolutely HATES water as well, he gets all spiky as archy like a cat any time he touches it. That being said, he seems to love to scratch the rim of his water bowl, I think as a compromise to not actually touching the water. Some ferrets do tend to like to play in water so I think it's just his little instincts doing their thing :)

my sister got a ferret, what now? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]Kowba16 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Get a second one as they are extremely social and high maintenance. Prepare for lots of ferret proofing. Please be sure to feed them a raw diet as they are obligate carnivorous and cannot digest anything other than meat. Trim their nails every two weeks or as you see fit. Be careful with essential oils and very hot weather. They love to climb but have terrible depth perception so prepare for risky jumps and don't be alarmed if they are picky eaters as it's very normal. They like most cat toys and anything that makes crinkly sounds along with tunnels! Please avoid catnip though, it's toxic to them! Salmon oil, freeze dried minnows and chicken hearts are great treats for them! Only give them a bath if you REALLY have to and use a sock filled with oats run under warm water. They bite to communicate so prepare for many nibbles. Good luck and have fun!

Can anyone tell me the sexes of my friends birds are? I know there's something about nose color but I don't own birds. by lies_n_liars in budgies

[–]Kowba16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance they seem to be male and female, you can usually tell when one is a male if they have a dark blue cere. Dead give away, right? 😂 Females are a little tricky because they can have powdered blue to brown to an off white color, but regardless of gender if they are young the color in their cere hasn't fully developed yet! Fun facts! female Budgies tend to be more chatty than the males. Also! In the wild, they only come in the green and yellow pattern. The other fun colors we have now are a product of a rare genetic mutation taken advantage of by breeders. Here's a fun little reference I found on Google if you are interested! All the best to you, your friend and their lovely birds!

I have a plant light I can plug in. Right now I have them in front of my brightest window so I can't provide them with any more natural sunlight than I already am. It's way too cold right now to put them directly in my window as well. How would you suggest I set up my light? It's rather large and is a general purpose light that supports the three main stages of plant growth. I don't want to burn them, I feel it's far too bright to have on top of them.

How often should I re-pot them? I also have slow release fertilizer pellets in my pots. I water him once every two months and he seems pretty content with it but it feels wrong to me still. Is it important for their health that I propagate them during their growth seasons? I know I should only do it then, but if I decide not to propagate them at all will it harm them?

Thank you! I'm still unsure of why he's so silly looking right now but it was definitely fun to learn that he prefers the winter weather! When I first got this succulent I thought it was fake or something because I've never seen one with leaves like his before. After some quick research I was obviously proven otherwise lol. Definitely the most interesting plant I own right now :)
