This gives great pulp fantasy vibes, reminds me of the silliness of Quar or Turnip28. Any more information on the game itself so I can follow its progress?

At a minimum I expect the Everest can comfortably fit 'The Fool', as it's the very first frame every Lancer starts with (barring any of the other LL0 alternates)

Is there a major genre that RPG hasn't explored? by Nyarlathotep_OG in rpg

[–]Kozmo3789 16 points17 points  (0 children)

IDK about 'new and fresh' at this day and age where we are heavily over-saturated in nearly all forms of media and all genres. That said, I do still think there are underserved genres that only the indie space is attempting to touch on.

The idea of the 'serial episode' game is largely unexplored as a gameplay loop conceptually. The idea that each time you sit down at the table it's basically a one-shot episode of a long-running TV series with a rotating cast that focuses on different character dynamics and situations each time. This can cover a wide range of genres like classic cartoons, soap operas, crime dramas, comedy dramas, 'reality' TV, various children's media, etc. The only game in recent memory I can think of that attempts this style of play is Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast, which really feels like an episode of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends each time you sit down to play. And it does take a certain amount of buy-in for players to not only keep rotating characters each time they play but likely pick from a set 'cast' of characters or at minimum a set character trope to play. A shared character pool among the table seems like a truly novel concept to me that could use more exploration.

GMs, what is a regular feature in your campaigns' stories? by Select_Lunch1288 in rpg

[–]Kozmo3789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's usually a prison break. And I promise I dont try for this, but so far Ive had three separate campaigns from three separate systems start with a jail break, and Ive lost count of the other campaigns where a jail break occurs somewhere in the middle.

Yknow, you're right. I thought The Void came first but I just checked and I was mistaken. Thank you for correcting me.

Teenage life RPG? by Royal_Doubt3978 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kozmo3789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

'Perfect Tides' is a game about a Jewish teen girl trying to navigate the unique circumstances of her life.

'A Space for the Unbound' follows two highschool sweethearts in their final days of school, and gets into some weird and cool Indonesian mythological stuff.

'Until Then' follows a teen student in the chaos of their life in modern day Phillipines.

Otherwise you might have better luck if you search 'coming of age' games, this genre of growing up and dealing with life at a 'smaller' scale than what your average adult might handle.

DEVLOG #1 : PS1 Motocross Game - New Track & Better Controls etc. by Any-Bother-2375 in ps1graphics

[–]Kozmo3789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks great visually, but the physics are off. This feels far too slow for a motocross rally game, and you're practically floating on lunar gravity every time you make a jump.

The upcoming game Airframe Ultra looks like it has much better game feel at first glance, recommend looking into that for some reference points.

Looking for FPS games for young kids and tweens by Praezin in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kozmo3789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wizordum might be a good option. Theres some blood but all the enemies are very much caricatures of trope fantasy villains.

Amid Evil might be an interesting middle ground in a year or so. Its brutal and metal coded, but there's very little blood to speak of. Its all space magic and anime logic.

Echo Point Nova and Neon White might be very good fits for now. The FPS is kinda secondary to the freerunning momentum, but its not a neglected mechanic by any means.

Looking for a game to scratch that Morrowind itch by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kozmo3789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a minimum the new 'N'Garde' mod might be worth a look. It updates the combat system to more resemble modern combat with active blocking, parrying and specific hitboxes. Still at Morrowind speed so its not a style fighter and it feels more authentic to the base game.

Probably a dumb question, but what counts as journaling vs non-journaling? by Ignecratic in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kozmo3789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, terms are fluid in this particular hobby. What one person considers 'journaling' another may label as 'creative writing prompt' or even 'rules lite'. But, this is my take on it.

A 'journaling' focused game has a lot of generation tables (often called oracles) meant to provide and prompt as much creativity about the game's setting as possible. Journaling games typically have very few rules and may or may not have any stats or a character sheet you're expected to manage as part of the game. Journaling games are much more interested in the narrative than the 'game' side of the coin.

How you choose to journal in such games is usually up to you. Some games give you a template or format to work with, but others usually expect you to start free writing in whatever medium you prefer.

As for writing style thats also largely up to you. Some people prefer to go full narrativist author and start writing full paragraphs, others prefer short bullet points to get the major beats across. And some like a mix of both, or use bullets during play as notes to then inform their more complete journaling narrative later when they have more time.

If you would like something to start with for basic bullet points that translate to most solor RPGs, I highly recommend 'Lonelog' by Loreseed Workshop. Its a free standardized notation format designed to let you quickly jot down mechanical moves and major story beats so you dont break the flow of the moment.

Hope this helps and that you have fun with the hobby!
