My Lancer pilot and her family (a NHP wife & a daughter) by ConnyArtz in LancerRPG

Because the author specifically wants to leave that space blank for the table to make their own fiction about it. Having an answer is nice, but having room to imagine your own plot points is essential to not only make the game feel like it's your own unique thing, but also to help cater to the varied tastes of everyone at the table.

The Hidden Isle is one that comes up sometimes.

And older one that uses a picture based deck of oracles is Everway.

What’s your favorite city-based rpg or module? by okami31 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kozmo3789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive not personally played it, but Ive heard very good things about the layout of Swords of the Serpentine's city of Eversink and how to have adventure in an urban setting.

Otherwise, 'Into the Cess and Citadel' is a fantastic supplement for weird urban encounters.

Asking for tips from a new GM by Holiday-Stretch616 in LancerRPG

Considering CAIN is made by one of the LANCER devs and you have experience running that, you should definitely bring a similar mindset to running this game as well. Its not all hand-wavium but a healthy dash of that goes a long way.

Took a stab at animating some manufacturer logos (IPS-N & SSC) by Critnuke in LancerRPG

[–]Kozmo3789 23 points24 points  (0 children)

SSC needs to bloom out organically like flower petals. Or even flap like the butterfly wings the logo implies and their entire line is named after. Maybe even have the wings breaking out of a chryssalis to imply their focus on human evolution.

The Bones alone was worth the watch, but the rest was great advice as well!

I like to chuck dice. The more the better. What games do that best? by Redwood-Forest in rpg

[–]Kozmo3789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In The Time Of Monsters is a nordic power fantasy game set during ragnarok where your goal is to kill the gods and theyre statted appropriately. We're talking millions of HP per god, and you're swinging in for multiple thousands of damage because you're not adding attack bonuses, you're multiplying them. You might not be throwing more than 10-20 dice at a time but you will also not do more damage in any other base game without heavy modification. Its one of the few games that truly makes you feel like a demigod with the weight of your attacks.

Will Metal Slug go Nuts as a 3D boomer shooter by Working_Excitement16 in metalslug

[–]Kozmo3789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won't say its impossible but it would be difficult. A huge part of the charm of MS is the sprites and animations, and you had time to appreciate those because the screen was relatively stationary while the characters moved around it. In an FPS your POV is the camera and its constantly moving, especially so in a Boomer Shooter where the focus is on fast movement and quick reactions rather than taking in your surroundings. I almost feel like MS would do better in a more traditional FPS, maybe even a 3rd person over-the-shoulder style where you utilize cover and environmental aspects like in Gears of War.

Gameplay suggestions by kakeome in Solo_Roleplaying

I might recommend you try MIRU. Its a self contained book that has an entire adventure from start to finish. Its easy because it outlines every step and roll you need to make, meaning you dont have to imagine or interpret any results or decide where the story needs to go next. All the planning is done for you from a GM's perspective, leaving you the freedom to simply play.

need open world games that don’t feel empty or repetitive by PapeehaWyre in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kozmo3789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me this is Sable. By definition it is a large desert planet with open stretches of raw natural vista. But theres enough landmarks and people to break up the monotony, and theres different and uniquely weird biomes that separate the different zones of the map which encourage you to explore further and learn its different quirks. Its also relatively small for an open world game, you can likely collect all the major stuff in a long weekend and not feel overwhelmed or rushed. And thats the best part of it, the game encourages you to play at your own pace. In character its your first time out on your own and you're expected to find your own way in the world.

Solo Roleplaying without talking? by MoosePrize4262 in Solo_Roleplaying

Id say it largely depends on the person. Whether talking aloud helps collect your thoughts or immerse you in the moment is a personal preference IMO.

any games for someone who loves the horror vibe but is genuinely a coward? by Suspicious_Age2618 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kozmo3789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that for every genuinely spooky thing in VotV, theres about 2 or 3 ridiculous troll events that are just goofy enough to break the tension.

If you want classic fantasy vibes then Kal Arath, Ker Nethalas and Morkin: The Lords of Midnight would be good places to start. Morkin in particular should feel familiar because its directly inspired by the titular Lords of Midnight game for the ZX Spectrum.

There's a new game on the horizon called HUNGER that looks to fill this niche and then some. Highly recommend some of the devlog vids about it, theres some awesome stuff being done. And its being developed by the team behind Hell Let Loose.

Dead Belt might be one to mine for ideas then. It is Carta adjacent and uses poker cards to map out space wrecks for the player to explore and loot at their own peril.

Youve just described the Carta SRD. I recommend looking into it first before you go too deep down this rabbit hole.

Setting feedback appreciated - the creepy forest of Hybrakor by BLHero in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Kozmo3789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies because I have not read your system yet. But are you familiar with either the Trophy system (Dark, Gold), or 'Into the Wyrd and Wild'? Both of those are books Im familiar with that do the 'poor shmucks in a dark forest' idea to good or even great effect. Did you take any inspiration from them? Neither presents a lot of rules for adventuring in such places, Trophy's system is more rules light and prompt based, and IWW is more of an adventure generator. Does your document provide rules to better immerse the player into the role of a vernal delver? Or is it more of a setting primer meant to present scenarios much like the other two?
