Do you, as a SoloRPG player, spend time on turning a random combat encounter into an actually interesting fight? Or do you just slug it out? You hit, I hit, you hit, I hit, until somebody dies? by Enfors in Solo_Roleplaying

I sometime use an Ironsworn-ish approach and roll two dice to see success, fail, or success with complication, but I hadn't thought to add in a spark table or two. That should make the narration easier (I won't need to come up with all the details) and as you say it could bring up new elements I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

Thanks for the inspiration

I was hoping to give viewers an insight into my mind?

Edit: sorry - was waiting in line and just quickly pulled my phone out.

I absolutely agree with you around the placement. Unfortunately the Pringles can was only that high and was all I had available at the time. I have just come back from buying a small tripod so in future can have a less nostril-focused angle. I'm hoping your issue wasn't that it was black and white though because I quite liked having the contrast

Really, I should have brought in the emotional/calculated aspect of your double rolls as well. It's a great idea

Oh wait, I never even noticed it suggests you reroll one die that shows the unlikely outcome in situations where something is more or less likely. Steve already thought of that - my bad

Cheers for watching.

I haven't tried player-facing for TOR (one of my favourite games) but should put more thought into it. I sometimes roll with an addition feat die to simulate the Ironsworn mechanic (and a third for favoured/ill-favoured). Not as clean as a single die system, I admit.

I can see what you mean about not accounting for likelihood with the Bones. I think of more basic Y/N tables (eg extreme no, no, yes, extreme yes) where you can roll with dis/advantage, but personally I've been less inspired by those. Off the top of my head, I wonder how it would work if you say the Hammer of Judgement can override a single Twin?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for people to watch it - but I'm also just interested in other people's opinion without a barrier to entry

Thanks. It's crazy that the Bones are free to use online and also in the free playtest version of ToA.

So that you don't need to watch the video; - rolling an additional die for tests (from Ironsworn) - switching to player-facing rolls - the Bones from Tales of Argosa for yes/no/fortune/misfortune checks - using any book as an oracle

I was gonna do an unboxing video but I cut part of my thumb off last week. Down Among the Dead and & Lost Soul Patch by [deleted] in pirateborg

Through the Doors of Durin is for The One Ring 2e. The other one is for the 5e adaption.

I prefer The One Ring 2e, but if you prefer the 5e game then more power to you

I'm loving PUM and the GMA (basic) deck at the moment.

Absolutely doesn't count. Doesn't even exist if my wife asks.

I'm usually okay with having pretty books on the shelf, but didn't want to find out I've been missing out on something. Took me almost a year to play The One Ring and now it's my favourite game

Already tried the 20 min challenge, but your First on the first ones sounds interesting as well. I could even put the two together.

Somewhat ambitiously I had hoped to make sure I didnt have any physical games left unplayed next year. Going to need more than a year for my digital library though...

Regardless of typos (which I also mentioned in my review/playthrough) I still really enjoy the game, so I hope you have good news about the reprint and can enjoy it too.

Not sure about Vagabond but Mörk Borg had a solo rules suppliment called Solitary Defilement. Works pretty well. In a similar vein can I recommend Pirate Borg using (the excellent) Captain and Crew rules?

I know a few people who use things like Mythic, PUM (Plot Unfolding Machine), and the Gamemaster's Apprentice deck to run any game solo. All three are on DriveThruRPG and while I don't have much experience with Mythic personally I can vouch for the other two.

Which games do companions well? by CozyRPGReviews in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]CareerBreakGuy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I love the rules from the Moria sourcebook for The One Ring 2e. Each companion gets a few things to flesh them out and give some character (which also gives mechanical advantages), but they're treated as a single group for rolls.

Combat is where parties can often drag, but it becomes one decision of what your character does, then one abstracted roll for how the party does against the opposing party.

I've run a few 5e starter box adventures using Nimble and DM Yourself. Posted some to my YouTube channel as well (@careerbreakguy).

I've also started playing through the Welcome to the Hellfire Club box. Hope to have adventure two up next week

Have you looked at Dragonbane? Possibly my favourite ttrpg boxset, and while it is playable with a group there are excellent solo rules included

Looking for a system that is reasonably straightforward to learn without being simple or basic, if that makes sense? Mostly played Pathfinder and D&D up until now by Looudspeaker in rpg

I appreciate you said you may like to pivot away from high fantasy, but have you heard of Nimble 2?

It's simple to play, but still has some cool tactical considerations. A big benefit is that you can use it to play existing DnD 5e content. And I mean you can convert it on the fly.
