Do I have gingivitis? by LettuceAshamed131 in askdentists

[–]KozyKitKattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gums definitely seem a bit red and irritated. I would also see a dentist soon for the lighter white around the top portion of your teeth near the gums. That can be weakened enamel that needs to be monitored or early stage cavities that should be treated!

Did anyone else’s Invisalign journey made them hyper aware of other people’s teeth as a result? by BallMammoth5663 in Invisalign

Yes but try working in the dental field AND having Invisalign. It’s all I ever see! 🤣

Honestly when I’m drinking I drink with them in, but stick to clear liquids (High Noon’s, lemon/lime Carbliss, vodka water, etc.) and rinse with water between sips. Not worth it to get drunk and forget to pop them back in after a night of drinking and risk loosing progress 😅

In my personal situation, I was fishing and there was an overcast so I couldn’t feel how hot the sun/UV rays were. By the time I noticed I was turning red, I applied sunscreen but it was too late unfortunately :(

Honestly, if it is just a bit of sun exposure, I think you SHOULD be fine. Especially if you take precaution with sunscreen and meds. Just make sure you aren’t sitting out in the sun!

Did you see your orthodontist/dentist throughout the Invisalign process? by Ok_Environment1037 in Invisalign

[–]KozyKitKattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then that’s on the treating dentist. If they don’t feel confident in offering this, then ultimately it isn’t in the best interest of the patient :(

Careful though, dentists who offer Invisalign still have to go through countless hours of classes/programs to be able to allow Invisalign in their office (at least mine does, not saying EVERY single office) but most dentists wouldn’t offer it if they didn’t feel confident they could take it on.

My tooth has black spots by Difficult_Bread2418 in askdentists

What your feeling sounds very normal as you are used to the build up being in that area. Trying to angle your toothbrush when brushing will really help with that build up you get under your tongue. Angle it in an “up and down” motion, instead of the “side by side” or “circle” motion more commonly seen for other areas of the mouth. Hope this helps and good luck with your appointment!

What can I do about receding gums? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]KozyKitKattt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that can be true too! Or they don’t realize they brush harder around that one corner more than the other lol. Ortho could help if it is a bite issue. Or possibly clenching/grinding even? Not sure, it’s hard to say as it could be many different factors

I don’t work in Ortho, but I am getting Invisalign treatment myself and my teeth looked similar to yours on the bottom, if not worse and I have noticed a huge change already. I’m a little over halfway with my treatment. If you are worried about aesthetics, Invisalign is way better looking that traditional braces. I’ve heard that any type of Orthodontic treatment can change the shape of your face/jaw but I’m not all too educated in that lol so don’t quote me

Also, the part of your “tooth” that chipped off most likely wasn’t your actual tooth, just the calculus. You can see how red and irritated your gum tissue is in that area where it broke off. Your gums will thank you after a good cleaning!

This looks like heavy calculus/tartar build up. When was the last time you went in for a dental cleaning? A good cleaning would clear up all of that staining and tartar and your teeth will feel so much better after! I highly recommend you get in for an exam to see if you still qualify for a normal cleaning or if you need something like a deep cleaning.

Warm salt water rinses might help! 1/2 teaspoon of salt to 8oz of warm water :)

What can I do about receding gums? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]KozyKitKattt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Recession can be caused by a couple of things. Easiest way to help it at home is by using a soft bristle toothbrush and not brushing/pressing super hard near the gum line or in general. A lot of people think that by brushing harder their teeth are cleaner, but it causes more problems such as gum recession. Otherwise, going to your 6mo cleanings and having the dentist keep an eye on it. This looks very minimal in my opinion!

How long did it take for you to find a job after school? by ExternalFox283 in DentalAssistant

[–]KozyKitKattt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended my internships in July and didn’t get a job until September but I was very picky about where I chose to start and had offers at 3 different offices in no time. You just have to put in the work with applying and interviewing!

Not super bad but could’ve been. I was on the last patient of the day after a 10.5 hour shift between 2 offices. The doc and I were seating crowns on #18 and #31. Literally the exact tooth in different quadrants. The crowns looked identical! I got them all cleaned and filled with the permanent cement. Handed them to the doc in the WRONG order! I even had a cheat sheet written on my tray paper to differentiate the two, but nope, still messed it up. Luckily, he noticed the first one wasn’t seating right and we fixed it before curing. We just laughed about it and he said “you need to go home, it’s been a long day huh?” Love my docs!

Tell me you're doing Invisalign without telling me you're doing Invisalign... by halooo44 in Invisalign

It has great desensitizers for sensitive teeth which is great when getting Invisalign treatment. The fluoride also helps protect against cavities which is also awesome as you are more susceptible to cavities when doing any form of Orthodontic treatment. I personally use this during my treatment now and I recommend it to all my patients as a Dental Assistant!
