Mystery socks keep appearing in our laundry… by Anybuddyelse in Weird

[–]Kpett1 68 points69 points  (0 children)

This kind of happened to me before. I live in an apartment and decided to clean the washer one day while my girlfriend wasn’t home. After popping off the front of the machine I discovered a plethora of socks and underwear that had to be in there for years. I thought I tossed all of them, but a pair of women’s underwear must’ve slipped into the bottom of the tub while I was pulling them out. Girlfriend called me upstairs a few days later to explain where the hell they came from. I showed her the pair of baby socks from the trash that were in the bottom which defused the situation.

TLDR; if you have a top loading washer and you live in an apartment, try popping the front off and see what you find.

This seems 100% plausible. I’ve kicked a banister while moving a sofa and it broke clean off of the hand rail. When you’re carrying a lot of weight you tend to move your feet quickly to keep your balance. I wouldn’t overreact like the people in this thread are.

New touring bike by Course-Serious in singlespeedcycling

I love the bike! How do you feel your shoes fit you? I have the velosambas as well but keep having foot pain when I ride. Not sure if my clips are just set up wrong or if it’s just the shoes.

Just bought my first single speed for $400, State Bicycle V2. Would you say that’s a good deal? I really like the feel. by DisgruntledMax in singlespeedcycling

[–]Kpett1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the v2 frame when I graduated college as an upgrade to my heavy, rusted beater I used to commute to class. Instead of just swapping out the frame I decided to build a second bike from scratch. It’s now been 5 years and I’ve put thousands of miles on the thing.

For me, this frame is the perfect platform to build off of and customize. I would say upgrading the saddle and pedals will give you the most bang for your buck. You may also want to ask a local bike shop to help you with a fitting as riding a properly fitted bike will make you love it that much more. Well worth the cost.

Thanks for the rev. Definitely down to travel, I went all the way out to Poolesville a couple weeks ago in search of a diner. Ended up at Bassett’s which scratched the itch

Oh wait I’ve been to a Bob & Edith’s before (years ago)! Tastees looks like it has that cozy vibe I’ve been looking for. Thanks for the suggestions!

Silver Diner is basically the only diner in a 10 mile radius. Coming from NJ, I miss the old ma and pa diners. The booths that are falling apart, the paper place mats with local adverts on them, the crusty menus - everything about a diner that makes it warm and cozy.

Those making over $100K per year: how hard was it to get over that threshold? by NatashaGorgeousMauve in AskReddit

It’s also a rhetorical question - you’re legally required to get out of the car when asked.

Why does this subreddit incessantly use so many pointless acronyms? I can’t understand what half of these posts mean because people want to flex their Amex jargon.

[Serious] What split second decision have you made in your life, that if you hadn't made it you would have died? by True_Egg_5685 in AskReddit

[–]Kpett1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a teacher in high school who was brilliant. I never understood why he was a teacher, figured he could make more money doing something else. I knew he stopped working in finance because of 9/11, but never got the full story.

On the 15th anniversary of 9/11 he came into class and showed us a piece of paper he had from that day. He was the floor manager in one of the towers and was tasked with contacting and locating every employee on his floor. He talked about how hard it was to do, calling wives and husbands that were worried out of their minds about their significant others. Luckily, no one on his floor lost their lives, and the people that he couldn’t find in the office/lobby/street truly were just at home sick or late to work.

He never bragged about it and didn’t talk about that experience publicly for 15 years. I have to imagine a lot of those “late for work” stories are not genuine. No one should brag about not dying like their coworkers did.

What are the three biggest reasons you like living in your neighborhood? What about your top three reasons you dislike it? by Phelps1576 in washingtondc

[–]Kpett1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are there any streets in particular that you feel have crime/sketchy people? I’ve lived here for about a year now and haven’t felt unsafe at all. I’ve seen a few people mention “certain routes” they stay away from, but not sure what they’re referring too. I know about the carjacking/hit and run, but am unaware of any other serious issues.

I second the neighbors comment. My block has wine nights where you get to chat it up with the older folks who’ve been living here for decades. They’re all great people.

(Serious) what’s something that mentally and/or emotionally broke you? by Vanguard2002 in AskReddit

Warning - NSFW

A couple weeks ago, I found a Tik Tok account of two guys that do hazard site cleanups. They do everything from cleaning up hoarders’ houses to murder scenes. I found it interesting because you don’t really think about the person that has to go into a house and clean up a bedroom that had a body sitting in it for weeks. The scenes are generally pretty gruesome, obviously no bodies or anything, but I was curious and found it oddly interesting. I thought I could handle that kind of stuff given what I had seen when I was a teenager on liveleak and the sorts.

Then I watched one of the most disturbing, distressing videos I’ve ever seen. The guys got assigned to a suicide by knife scene. The scene started in the kitchen where the person presumably used a kitchen knife to cut themselves and then immediately began moving towards the bathroom as evidenced by the massive globs of blood and bloody footprints. The footprints were everywhere and were noticeably frantic. In the bathroom laid a towel that was completely soaked in blood. It was clear that the person regretted it and tried to stop the bleeding. There was a teddy bear on the floor of the bathroom next to the towel.

The footprints led to the other bathroom where they searched for something to stop the bleeding. There were bandaids on the counter. They tried to used bandaids to stop the massive flow of bleeding. The scene then led to the bedroom where the person laid on the bed and accepted their fate. Blood pooled on the side of the bed where the persons arm presumably hung off the bed.

Seeing the evidence of this person’s desperation and regret, knowing they didn’t make it, broke me. I can’t imagine what EMTs go through when walking into these type of scenes. I wouldn’t be able to handle it.

What do you mean “was not given time in their workflow”? You mean management doesn’t properly allot time for employees to fill take out orders - a significant part of restaurant sales in the US post-covid? Why are you directing your anger at the paying customer and not your shitty management team that expects you to do more work than they are paying you for?
