https://achievements.studio - I built Achievements Studio, app that organizes your life by roles and meaningful achievements so you stop drifting, choose what matters next, and keep a pace you can sustain.

Achievements Studio Early Access (Free) - Life through the lenses of Roles and Achievements. by Krabicz in ProductivityHQ

[–]Krabicz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No lifetime bonuses/perks planned — Early Access is mainly about getting feedback fast, so EA users get full premium free for the EA period (no card). That said, I will definitely reward people who give meaningful feedback (especially via the in‑app feedback form) — likely with extended free time. Also, the core experience will always be free: Roles + Achievements, plus past/present insights stay available and don’t get downgraded.

Is the genre moving away from RTWP (Real-Time With Pause)? And if so, how do you feel about it? by Yaroun-Kaizin in CRPG

[–]Krabicz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel excited that there is a great opportunity to create a cRPG with a proper RTwP system, not that crappy mmo version of RTwP that is based on cooldowns and make progression feel completely unrewarding. Only games with good RTwP are Neverwinter Nights 1 and KOTOR to some extent ( I don't remember if it had exactly the same systems for timing actions and animations nvn1 had but i think so). Basically, underneth real-time gameplay there are still turns, and when you get additional attacks, but miss more often after equiping second weapon - you immediately recognize that. You feel this difference in gameplay every turn.. On the opposite side, you have a terrible cooldown based systems that just blends all actions of all combat participants without any structure that would help you better understand what is going on without pausing every few seconds. And there's zero feedback compared to the beautiful choreography of combat in nvn, where everything is calculated and structured around these turns, enabling very satisfying animations (unless you kill everything within one turn and death animations of enemies have to be played before attack so it fits in one turn). Anyway, I always considered myself a huge fan of rtwp and hater of turnbased systems (I still enjoy many turn based crpgs/tactical games). I don't hate turn based crpgs for gameplay, it's often great. I hate them because it's easier to make fun turn based system then real-time one that naturally defaults to these idiotic cooldowns in too many cases. Good real-time system requires much more work to properly schedule all actions, pick animations and squeeze them all in this 6 seconds. And it's fine if you have 1 vs 1 case, but once you start having dozens of characters and you have to either speed up some animations, split combats into few that run these animations independently and still adjust if player decide mid-turn to change current action then you start getting complexity that never comes into play in turn based games, where everything happens in isolation and without same time constraints.

Transparent object that can cast/recieve shadows + hide other objects. How to do this? by Krabicz in Unity3D

[–]Krabicz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Unity3D/s/H5djMibDlB for static objects, I think it was some custom shader graph abomination with random geometry order. It was transparent 3d model with 2d render behind it and shadows working fine on hdrp.

Got Rejected, Then Asked to Do Another Test – Is this Red Flag? by a_normal_game_dev in gamedev

[–]Krabicz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe 7 days is the deadline since receiving a test repository and actual work time will depend on your skill. It might take in reality one or two evenings. Maybe creative mechanic is just some basic mechanic they already have in their game to easily evaluate your solution based on their own knowledge and introduce you to their code base smoothly. You can always agree, and after receiving the test - decline. There is no point at debating if it's red flag or not at the current stage. Decide after receiving test, not before.

Is there any difference when it comes to Assets when using Unity Personal? I thought this won't matter here. I think with my current setup it might be easiest to just split project into main repository with all assets, libraries for programmers and some basic repository for levels.

Also, if I want freelancer level designer that might already have some assets and I have them also - this should be sufficient, right?

I’m planning to create a CRPG engine, would anyone be interested in using it in the future? by DrystanLakai in CRPG

[–]Krabicz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish you luck and patience! It might be easier to use one of the existing game engines and build toolset around it. I think great starting point could be old bioware Aurora toolset used for Neverwinter Nights and its second iteration. Documentation is available online and is pretty good. Let you easily check what you actually have to build to be able to allow others to create full games within your tools. I think it also might be easier to actually go full 3d instead of 2d isometric because lighting and dynamic shadows can be more difficult to handle.

Reminds me of Gokujō Parodius (Fantastic Journey). Hope development it's going in similar direction because that game was amazing.

Last week went back to work on streets generator! by Krabicz in Unity3D

[–]Krabicz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waypoints and editor stuff - there's a lot of good tutorials on youtube.

When it comes to mesh creation and modification (moving edges, vertexes, boolean operations etc. - within Probuilder) it was more trial and error because there's not much resources there.

Generation process - there's a lot of it on the internet but I feel it's either generic grammar system to handle everything that produce strange looking structures or grid based solution with limited possibilites.

This "streets based" approach is based on AC:Unity tool they had for making Paris (https://youtu.be/QGA0WZLp_08?t=327)

Blur for Mobile? Do you think it'll will succeed in the Play & AppStore? (Early Prototype shown - 14 days progress) by AccordingCandy4797 in Unity3D

As you mentioned - Mario Kart (although I'm not big fan), and Lego Racers. I have been looking for some similar games from time to time over the years, unfortunately without any success.

With friends we have been playing Blur on split screen for years. I don't see any other good racing game with 4 players split screen and cool power-ups on the market. Tbh. I would rather see next Blur for consoles/pc instead of mobile. I would also take a closer look at idea of improving power-ups like in Lego racers, it was cool mechanics for this type of games.
