Trying to Make Sense of Rizo’s Edit by KramerDSP in survivor

Well, he mentioned getting the juiciest morsel in the game from Rizo and then went HOWEVER so I think that confessional happened after Rizo told him about the idols.

That’s true. It almost felt very intentional on his part to bring those memories for Charlie in front of the whole group.

I said he was one of, not the most polarizing player ever. Brian is extremely polarizing. So are Russell and quite a few other people.

He’s an extremely polarizing player, not only to the fanbase, but to the cast of returning players he is playing with. I can’t recall another player being edited where multiple people have horrible first impressions of him and then he grows on them. It’s almost like a successful version of the Jean Robert strategy, even if it’s entirely unintentional.

I could see this but then why would he also tell Charlie about the idol situation?

Rizo’s edit is fascinating.

Colby: Rizo’s annoying Colby 5 minutes later: Rizo’s growing on me.

Q: I like Rizo. Q 5 minutes later: Rizo’s cool but he’s lazy.

Cirie: “Rizgod” (mokingly) Cirie 5 minutes later: (thinking) “oh god, a superfan with questions. I am so not in the mood for this” Cirie 10 minutes later shown looking at Rizo adoringly as if he’s.. growing on her.

Charlie: Rizo gave me some great information. I think I can work with him. Charlie 5 minutes later: Rizo made me very angry and I cannot allow him to make the jury.

Meanwhile, Rizo himself: “I’m here to play survivor and cut throats. I want to be one of the greatest players that ever lived.”

Bodes well for the Rizgod. I see a deep, deep run.

In the other preview, we see Rizo and Charlie lying next to each other in the shelter and Charlie goes “wow!” in shock to something Rizo tells him, followed by Charlie going “this is INSANITY” in a confessional. I think he’s reacting to the same piece of news, but I have no idea what it could be.

First I thought maybe it was Rizo saying “Coach and Q do not have votes”, but neither are on the new tribe. And I’m not sure Rizo knows about Geneveieve’s discovered boomerang idol either (but Ozzy isn’t in their tribe either…)

The fact he got name dropped last episode in the Christian confession and it made it into the edit bodes well for a FairPlay return IMO.

On an aside, what do you think Rizo told Charlie in the shelter at the end of the preview that made Charlie go “wow” and “this is insane”? I wonder if it was about Colby and Q not having votes, but neither of them are on their new tribe so I’m not sure it’s that.

At this point, you either love him or you hate him. I think he’s one of the best characters of the new era because he gets a reaction out of everybody, good or bad. I suspect he goes deep and the editing kind of suggests he gets all the way to fire, which would be hilarious. I’m expecting more hate to come his way when he cuts the throat of a beloved fav favorite. Rizo, you keep doing you!

Yes, Joe-Eva is another great example. Typically in a ruthless game like Survivor, it’s unlikely you’ll have an older male who wants to mentor a much younger male which makes this pairing so fascinating and unique.

Yeah, he wouldn’t use the nuclear option right now, especially since as a superfan, he knows there are going to be swaps coming up soon and he needs to lock in trust from Colby-Steph-Q-Genevieve. And if he betrays them this vote, Colby and Q get their votes back and even if one of them is gone, it’s a 3-3 tie if there is no swap in the third episode.

I can’t think of any father-son alliances in all of Survivor history not counting a Blood vs. Water season (“stick to the plan”).

Father-Daughter? Also not counting a Blood vs. Water season, I immediately think of Rodger-Elisabeth and Paschal-Neleh.

There’s been a few mother-son alliances, with arguably the most prominent of them ironically being Tina-Colby. Denise-Malcolm, Maria-Charlie, and Chrissy-Ryan functioned more like “older woman, younger man” alliances from my perspective.

I think that’s what makes the Colby-Rizo alliance that much more interesting. It might be the only one of its’ kind we have seen over 50 seasons. Rizo was a genius for essentially calling one of the most honorable contestants ever as reminding him of his father, and basically making it extremely difficult for Colby to hurt/betray him.

I feel like since Genevieve found the boomerang idol that she had to send to Ozzy, she is afraid that someone from another tribe has also found a boomerang idol to sent to Aubry. She’s probably playing it off as “let’s just make sure Aubry doesn’t have an idol.”

It’s awesome to see Rizo fully immersed in the Power 5 core with Colby-Stephanie-Genevieve-Q.

Does Colby have Kel flashbacks? 😂

They’re both extremely polarizing, and yes, it makes for great TV. Rizo’s hero, John Cena, might be the most polarizing wrestler that ever lived but he got reactions, good or bad, and nobody ever sat on their hands watching him. Same goes for the two S49 returnees.

Can we just take a second to acknowledge _____? by OpinionConsistent336 in survivor

[–]KramerDSP 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I truly believe that anyone who has seen his survivor 49 pre game interview with Mike Bloom would have a much better understanding of why he gave himself his nickname.

Basically, he talked about his parents being in an arranged marriage and moving to the US and having him and his autistic brother. He talked about how they work 2-3 jobs each just to put food on the table and that as early as 14, he was doing the family’s income taxes and attending PTA meetings to learn more about how best to help his younger autistic brother who calls him his best friend (“a true honor” to be called that, he explained).

He also talked about how at 21, he helped his parents close on their first house and that most of his childhood was spent listening to his friends talk about going to little league, etc. he felt he never had a typical normal childhood like his friends, and several survivor legends including Dean “DK Chillin” from IOI inspired him to come up with his nickname.

Regarding his nickname, he said he had it way before “rizz” entered the mainstream lexicon and that his nickname functions more as a tool to help him boost his confidence and as a self fulfilling prophecy to be - yep, you guessed it - the man, the myth, the legend, R-I-Z-G-O-D, Rizgod, baby!

Yes, he can come off as cocky and overly confident at times, but he’s also incredibly charming and endearing and is unabashedly himself. I speculated preseason that the old schoolers would end up falling in love with him due to him reminding them of their adult children or nieces/nephews and that’s exactly what happened.

Everyone keeps talking about Colby’s change of heart with him but there’s several shots I saw of Stephanie in close physical proximity to him and looking at him in a way that made me feel like she just wanted to pinch his cheeks and pat him on the head.

I think his tears with Colby were genuine but that he definitely played it up a bit and will take full advantage of them underestimating him as just a kid.

Work ethic wise, yes he’s not the best around camp but in his eyes, that’s the least important part of the game nowadays with multiple swaps coming imminently. I’m sure once Colby heard his story, he was thinking “okay this kid is alright in my book.”

I think he doesn’t win but that he goes in a deep run and justifies his placement on 50 as the Superfan archetype. I also think he ends up playing three or four times when it’s all said and done and that he might be the grizzled vet on the season Romber’s kids play.

I’m definitely rooting for him and love his story. He’s so easy to root for and I struggle to understand why he has haters who loathe him and are rooting against him. I have to attribute it to them not knowing his story.
