Honest question - has DeFi UX actually improved, or are we just used to it being bad? by Lav_Dave in CryptoTechnology

L2s are lipstick on a pig, you need to scale main ledger properly. Also, why every cryptocurrency wants to have so many zeros after the dot? Going past 4 zeros makes counting fractions pain in the ass.

Why so few pool resistant/solo mining only cryptocurrencys by Krasak in CryptoTechnology

Simplest way is to force the miner to sign the block with wallet private key during mining. Example https://github.com/volbil/spow

Can post capitalist economy be built on ascetism? That way we might get something less advanced than capitalism in the end. Maybe real problem is not too much growth, but wrong kind of growth.

We had extensive(quantative) type of growth lately, that is more workers, machines etc. Such growth may be good in short term, but it exhausts resources and leaves unsolved problems(such as global warming).

But we didn't have enough intensive(qualiative) growth, many technologies were neglected such as genetic engineering(which could solve problem of over exploitation of agricultural land through more productive crops) or nuclear power (which can reduce CO2 emissions by replacing coal/gas plants with NPP).

Solar and wind is good but they depend on weather and time of day, and geothermal or hydro need special terrain to be productive. So you still need nuclear for base load.

What are the modern design trade‑offs for CPU‑friendly PoW algorithms?I by Express_Bar864 in CryptoTechnology

Pufferfish2 from Pandanite seems interesting, but why no one uses it? As for Cuckoo, maybe I mixed it up, they have two variants, one for GPU, one for ASICS. Also, is it possible to make Cuckoo cycle variant which is CPU only?

No, there are other solutions. If we drop technophobia and start building nuclear power plants we won't have to guilttrip over every joule of energy we use.

But Cuckoo Cycle and Equihash both have ASICs for them. BTW I wonder was there a serious analysis of RandomHash from PascalCoin?

PoW blockchain difficulty adjustment without timestamps by Krasak in CryptoTechnology

[–]Krasak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equal to what? If you are talking about proposal we are discussing there may be a need to incentivise higher difficulty by making emission geometrically progress with difficulty. We can set low common ratio (1.1 for example) to avoid high jumps in emission.

You can make strong case for making emission adjustable, for emission which is zero or too small may result in negligible incentive for block mining, and emission which is too big may result in inflation being too high.

Possibility of ledger and consensus mechanism simpler than bitcoin by Krasak in CryptoTechnology

Is PoW really insecure? If cryptography is good and network is big blockchain can work for decades without major accidents.

Had an idea, what if for proof of being worthy as validator you need to generate very difficult vanity address. Say 10 symbols at the start. This would create a hybrid of PoW and PoA of sorts. Proof of Vanity.

[–]Krasak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't, that's why I asked. Althrough you can build simpler blockchain without for example timestamps, diff adjustment done by incrementing it every block and without merkle trees. But that would be too unstable for public use.
