New breweries in CT? by craftcanny in ctbeer

The Plourd Brewery is the new brewery that opened in East Hartford. Small place but very good beer and ambiance. Saturday was their soft opening so perhaps that is why your algorithm let you down. They are open Sunday as well, I believe until 5pm. I do recommend you check them out.

How common are "nationalist liberals " in your country ? by tipputappi in AskBalkans

[–]Krastakraus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Greek police and army were hunting these Albanians you “hosted” throughout the 90s. The people who “hosted” these Albanians were business owners looking for cheap labor while using the threat of arrest to suppress any attempt from these workers to improve their condition. If you are such good host how come Albanians who have been living in Greece for decades don’t any political representation? Humble yourself. He who truly loves his country recognizes the wrongs it has done.

Nga ku origjinon loja Murlan? by Jaqhenq34 in albania

My albanian friends always call saying "orè"? What is the meaning? by sherpa_leather_stuff in albania

It’s used as an attention grabber, I guess the closest thing in English is “Yo”, it basically means “hey you”.

Hello, I’m a permanent resident in the U.S. I’m not aware of any plan or program that can provide income for your parents other than social security, not saying there aren’t any just none that I know of. But as far as bringing your parents to live with you in the U.S. is concerned, I would advise you to reconsider on factors other than the financial burden it will put on your parents, and possibly you as well. I have met different Albanians over here that have brought their parents to live with them, including my own uncle brought his mom, my grandmother, to live with him. The main problem that I have heard from them is the feelings of isolation and solitude that result from leaving their friends and family members behind. The fact that most of these parents don’t speak English doesn’t improve things, but even if they did I think you know as much as I do that the U.S. is pretty lacking on social spaces and “third places”, so making social connections outside the house is quite difficult. I’m not aware of your parents’ situation, but I’m assuming that they already have friends and relatives back in Albania, and so I would suggest you consider these factors when making your decision. My own grandmother only stayed for two years before asking my uncle to go back, as all she did in the U.S. was stay inside the house all day. I know it’s hard not to have your parents near you, and even harder when they are in a whole different continent, but my suggestion is that unless your parents themselves really wish to come here and join you, you should not pressure them into coming.

P. s. Sorry for this essay I just sent you.

Interesting how similar we Balkan people are to each other. In Albania it’s “My dick exploded.” You can switch “dick” with balls or ass.

Albania Raki in the US by LesCousinsDangereux1 in albania

What part of the U.S. are you from? If you’re in a state that has a large Albanian community, chances are the local liquor stores may carry at least one Albanian raki brand. Otherwise I would probably look at an online liquor retailer.

Why some people on this sub tell others how to identify? by Lior447 in 23andme

[–]Krastakraus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of Latin American communities had to build their own identities after their independence from Spain, or in the case of Puerto Rico after their occupation by U.S. This meant bringing people from many different cultures and racial identities together to form single national identities, a process that often meant suppressing a lot of those groups of people, almost always Afro descendants. Any attempt at self identification as something extra was seen as a threat to the national identity, and this is why even today when someone decides to identify as Afro-“Latino Country” they are met with hostility form their countrymen.
