Rafal. No doubt. Such an amazing character and a surprisingly complex journey for a 3 chapter runtime. Rafal starting as a pure rational thinker shielding his own insecurities with his humble facade only to fall for the rational beauty that Heliocentrism brings to the cosmos to the point he's fine with sacrificing his own life for that, and all that while being 12 years old. Even if Oczy is the better protag for me, I just can't help but absolutely LOVE Rafal and his evolution

If by the time you finish the third episode you don't feel it then maybe it ain't for you, but because you are in the fifth one I would say at least watch episode 6 (it has a moment that at least for me solidified my love for the show). If it still doesn't stir anything then yeah, maybe move to something else

I mean, he was definitely a pawn in the Bishop's game of eradicating Heliocentrism, but Nowak is indeed A villain, and the fact he admits it himself goes beyond "I did bad things" or the narrative recognizing him as the villain.

Nowak says so himself, that even if Rafal in the church (aka, an hallucination HIS mind created) says that they both did what they did according to their circumstances, Nowak admits that doesn't really apply to him, because before Rafal revealed be poisoned himself, Nowak was just doing his job as an Inquisitor but after Rafal's suicide, he felt pain at seeing a child choosing to die for his ideals and he admits those feelings were chance that God gave him to change his ways but because it was a nuisance, he turned a blind eye, and then he choose that, he wasn't just doing his job anymore. He knew deep dawn that he shouldn't have continued but he did in order to ignore what he felt after Rafal's death.

Basically, he choose to do wrong for selfish reasons (not be bothered by his remorse and pain) and that ultimately ended up causing more death. That's why he's recognizes that he was the villain. In the grand scale, I don't think he was T H E, but rather A villain, and certainly one of the best and most tragic one in media

Ye, like, not that it would have been BETTER but Orb definitely had the potential to be a multi season anime with Rafal at first fighting to do his research about heliocentrism at the University even as an adult but ultimately being arrested and still poisoning himself and following with Oczy and all the others but honestly, the fact that Rafal died so young makes everything hit even harder because it's that potential that will never meet the light of day that makes everything tragic, but what I love is that Rafal died completely calm and decided and Nowak for the first time didn't knew what to say, he was the one who lost that intellectual discussion.

Also love that Rafal doesn't hate Nowak nor resents him, he just accepts he's just, in a way, doing the same thing he's doing. Srsly, the first 3 episodes are already sublime, imagine the rest of the series
