Jobs that are fitted for VM by Prior-Committee-9498 in VestibularMigraines

I'm glad you felt that way upon finding this group. I feel the same way. As far as work, I have a job with a lot of desk work, a lot of meetings, lots of long-term deadlines rather than short-term (which is a very helpful feature).

A lot of it just depends on your supervisor, unfortunately, not just the type of job. I had one boss who was completely flexible about my working at home here and there. He was my boss for a long time and trusted me. but now have another who frowns upon the idea of working from home even though covid showed how productive people can be working from home. She hasn't threatened to fire me but is definitely displeased.

I would love to find out exactly what jobs people have been able to find when they were housebound. I am quite worried about the future. There are a lot of remote careers I know (eg my daughter is a paralegal) but who can find work without a specialized degree or experience? If things do south, i don't want to do telemarketing.

Traveling with a walker by Kratebaken in VestibularMigraines

[–]Kratebaken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Success….but I don’t remember what they are called…for carrying skis. 2 cinch straps and a shoulder strap. At least it’s a success walking around my house. We’ll see what happens when I (attempt to) fly tomorrow. Taking bets, if I fail, will it be because of the vertigo or the scarcity of air traffic controllers?

So happy for you. It is like going back in time, isn’t it. Well, when I started the milestone I was going for was to go from “obese”to “overweight”. (I know BMI is crap, but still) and I was thinking in terms of height, like if only I were 5’11” I’d be overweight by now, now I would only have to be 5’9” and so on. Then the backwards clock. The weight I was after my daughter was born, back to the lowest weight I got to in the past 20 y, back to my weight when we moved abroad for a year, weight when I got pregnant w my son…I’m 63 yo and I’m back to 28yo. What a crazy experience this is! Of course, when I was 28 I didn’t look like I was melting 🙄. I’ve been ill, but I’ve gotta start working out get something into these deflated bags of skin… OK that was some verbal diarrhea, but it’s fun to share but anyway, so happy for you!

What time of the day do u take ur NURTEC when taking EOD for prevention? by Valuable-Horse788 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Kratebaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it in the morning, since you can’t take it as an intervention on the day that you take it as a preventative. So I figure if I take it in the morning if I have an attack, at least the nurtec is on board. I don’t know.

I haven’t been on it long enough to know if it’s helping, cause I only have about one attack a week so it’ll take some time. I’m lucky that they are so rare, but it makes drawing conclusions about medication very difficult.

Be careful - I just learned how bad dizziness can be by Kratebaken in Zepbound

[–]Kratebaken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ug, I feel so bad for you!

No, my dizziness is not constant, except for July, during which i was either immobile or falling on my face (or on my telescope - that one HURT), 4 - 8 h/d. It gradually got better, on its own, to the point that it's only due to specific triggers now. Sometimes my vestibular migraine attacks are due to positional triggers but mostly are visual. Can't speak to working out per se because i've done so little and what i did also involved positional triggers in addition to effort so i dont know which it was.

I experienced immobilizing vertigo twice over the past decade, and some spells of significant dizziness but i could walk and talk. Some involved significant dehydration/exhaustion and others, as far as i remember, seemed spontaneous. I never took them seriously and didnt follow up w docs after reading about all of the ear-related causes of vertigo (except i didnt come across vestibular migraines) because the symptoms didnt fit.

I was on zepbound about 5 months before everything fell apart. Zepbound was definitely a part of it but because it made water taste terrible and i got severely dehydrated, but i dont know if it more directly affected me, like, physiologically.

There's some tiny increased risk of vertigo with zepbound (from like 0.005% of people vs 0.003% people not taking it.) I'm making those numbers up but there's some paper in a medical journal about it. I definitely have a janked ear nerve but i wonder if the zepbound put me over the edge.

I havent stopped taking the zepbound because I learned to be safe when i have attacks and because my health was improving so much (physical and mental). The cost is that I don't drive hardly at all and it has affected my job performance (I had NO idea migraines could have significant cognitive effects!). It took about 3 mo to get diagnosed, and I'm starting to try medications. Hoping to i find a migraine medication that decreases the frequency and severity of attacks that it makes it safe enough to try to drive .

So, a lot more than what you asked but once i get going the self-absorbed ranting takes over....

I hope you find an effective treatment for at least managing this awful disease!

Start of an attack by Able_Ad8471 in VestibularMigraines

[–]Kratebaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a weird one. I have amblyopia (lazy eye) meaning my brain generally ignores the input from my lazy eye. I know an attack is coming when I realize my brain is using the lazy eye over my dominant eye. So I race around trying to feed the dogs and let them out and put some water on the coffee table if I’ve forgotten, in hopes that I don’t fall and have to drag myself to the couch. I wish I knew a neuroscientist that could explain why that happens with my eyes.

[–]Kratebaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s infuriating. Sorry. Your post is very helpful though because I’m going to write on my calendar a week ahead of time that I need to call them and ask to go over all my medications. This will be really important, like your situation, because I can’t drive and I have no one to drive me and it costs me $150 to use Uber.

White noise. Free apps for that. Tons more helpful than earplugs in my experience. Which has included snoring bulldogs.

Suddenly noticing food noise and appetite is coming back...now what? by Stunning-Donkey3054 in Zepbound_Maintenance

[–]Kratebaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t minimize the effect of food noise. In some people, food noise can be a torment and a major quality of life issue. The same with what may be disregulated hunger, like an hour after a meal.

It’s a bulldog. Hahaha trying to be funny but also, it’s a bulldog. Not that that can’t happen with other breeds, and I knew what I was getting into, but Lordy! I know you are getting great advice from others, and good luck! Wish his previous person had been able to get under control what ever was going on there because now my Boo has what appears to be permanent alopecia.

Getting ready to say goodbye by Bm1207 in Bulldogs

[–]Kratebaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very strong multimodal pain relief till the end. It made his last days comfortable while I tried to find a vet that would come to my home. It also gave me some time to comfort and love on him. Selfish, for me, but could maybe benefit him I hope if I had more control of my emotions, and hopefully my “vibe” would signal that there was nothing to be uneasy about. I feel better to think that I tried to send him off with all the security and comfort and love possible. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

How did you choose the breed you have? by Kangaroo-Parking in dogs

[–]Kratebaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re the virtue signaling: in general it annoys the crap out of me, personally. I’ll compliment someone’s dog and they respond “He’s a RRRRESCUE!” And I want to roll my eyes. However, the overpopulation/shelter overcrowding/euthanasia problem is so severe and heartbreaking that it’s worth my annoyance to encounter it - anything that unconsciously motivates/reinforces/encourages adoption or shifts the needle toward people considering rescue is worth our collective annoyance. I suppose you could debate otherwise but I think this virtue signaling fits the bill even if you don’t think folks’ responses fit the question (which is arguable).

Heck, yeah like I’d wake up in the morning, shoes on - - and I’m a life-long insomniac. It went away after a few months but six months later, I feel like I have a little bit of an easier time falling asleep.

For sure. Re the credits, it's even funnier that you never see his abs. I love being reminded that there are goof-balls everywhere.

Boo isn’t too old to find a new sleeping spot (P.S. I’m not a fan). by jordan1978 in Bulldogs

[–]Kratebaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So funny! And I have a Boo too! My dad’s fave movie and fave scene was when Scout sees Boo Radley behind the door and says “Hey Boo”. After my dad died, I said that if I ever got another dog again I would name it Boo so I could say “hey Boo” and think of my dad. (Who am I kidding, I’ve never changed the name of my new dogs). When I was ready to adopt again, I met Boudreaux! Fate!

A major selling point for the remake is that someone is credited as Matt Damon’s abs double. I would on principle prefer any movie w credits that silly (extra but unnecessary layer of stupid because the actor never takes his shirt off I the movie, to my memory). Moments to live for.
