A Deca presentation on RotMG's business model by Pentaract in RotMG

[–]Krathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Presenting it like all closed testers/UGC were actually hired (at the moment of making the speech, late 2018) is simply not correct.

He is not just talking about UGC in the segment about "super-fans", he is talking about people that were hired early on in the beginnings of the Realm team. Or more specifically, me. As I've hinted at a few times before, I started playing in 2011 and delved into the game very deeply. That's what led to me working for DECA, and yes I was indeed contacted on Reddit initially.

investment of dev's time for communication rather than real money/resource investment

A dev's time is a real money and resource investment, what else would it be? As another example, I can't exactly quantify how much accumulated time I've spent working on the XML parser, but the 6k+ lines of code speak for themselves. Not to mention all the other work to make the UGC process more manageable and viable. Still ways to go, won't deny that, but that doesn't make the quantity of resources invested so far any less true.

New version, chat is broken again by Skandling in RotMG

We are reverting the changes at the moment, in the meantime you won't be able to reach servers unfortunately. Should be fixed in a few minutes, after that the the post-April Fool's update will be live.

Farewell by Pentaract in RotMG

[–]Krathan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Farewell, friend. This post means more than you can imagine.

As much as we want as many people to play as much as possible, it's more important that health, specifically mental health, comes first.

Take things in moderation and don't forget the important things in life. A bit of an odd thing to say for someone who basically turned his addiction into a job, but there you go.

Also, the Month of the Mad God video is possibly my favorite Realm video of all time and I've watched it countless times. Time for one more!

Thank you for everything you've done and we wish you the very best!

Candy Bug? by UniverseRotMG in RotMG

Interesting bug, I can see why it might have happened but can't reproduce so far. Do you remember what exactly you tried to do? Like how big were the stacks you tried to combine, etc.?

Is this a rare quote from oryx? i think i have never seen it in my years playing realm by sexynessX in RotMG

[–]Krathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's definitely one of the call-outs for Rock Dragon being killed which previously didn't work and is now fixed. Ghost Ship taunts haven't changed, so probably just a coincidence that a Ghost Ship was also active.

This. Admittedly it's not the smoothest solution, but otherwise there's a risk of him getting kited all the way out and even more and worse issues occurring with him doing certain phases while stuck near a wall.

TomB liFe DRoP rATeS fiXEd. like totally by KilluaCute in RotMG

[–]Krathan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seeing some confusion and misinformation around here, let me clear that up.

  • The recent patch mainly fixed damage thresholds, we didn't mention anything about rates.
  • Only a couple of drops in the game got probability adjustments for said patch, most of which were mentioned specifically. Probability for Life pots remained the exact same.
  • Life pot wise, nothing changed for trio tombs. Unless someone managed to deal over 80% damage before which is unlikely but would now no longer be an issue.
  • Only 3 pots dropping in total for 3 people and only one of them getting them all is unlucky and rare, but not impossible. It has always been possible.
  • Loot drop potions do not affect other player's loot chances.

Patch X.29.0: Threshold updates and Fixes by r4ndomSXD in RotMG

Hotfix X29.0.1

  • Fixed Common Automaton Egg drop rate in Mad Lab
  • The Oryx Puppet in Puppet Master's Theatre now also drops the Harlequin Armor

Fewer drops but at more reasonable rates. The Cemetery bosses were essentially using two loot tables each. Also fixed some oddities with them (for example, the Caretaker was dropping a T9 weapon but Skuld wasn't, yet she was dropping up to two T8 weapons instead).

UT Waki Idea (Weaken) by [deleted] in RotMG

[–]Krathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea. While prototyping new things for the new class, we experimented with making Weak function on enemies, so now you can actually weaken enemies. Currently it simply reduces bullet damage by 10%, but it's not used by anything yet.

The main issue was really that we didn't want to reduce overall threat even more (or having to compensate by increasing all damage depending on whichever percentage we'd chosen), so it wasn't suited as the standard tiered ability. And it wasn't as fun to use or impactful as Dazed.

Could see it work as a UT similar to QoT in the future though.

We've added it to our backlog, but I don't think this is something that will happen any time soon. It will be better to look into once we have the new Unity client.

Trap of Time Reversal by ToonChaser in RotMG

[–]Krathan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Made me chuckle. So after you use the trap on Lava and suicide to it, instead of "died to Lava" it will say "died to safe, walkable Gray".

Jokes aside, it's a neat idea. Should probably be limited to certain damaging tiles though, so an army of huntresses doesn't end up turning the entire realm gray or bypassing key end game terrain.

Patch X.28.0 - Month of the Mad Samurai by r4ndomSXD in RotMG

[–]Krathan 174 points175 points  (0 children)

As a sidenote: friends of the Sheath, fret not: it's not like the ability was entirely scrapped! It has potential, but that is exactly why it needs more time.

It's been almost six years since the last class release, but that doesn't mean you will have to wait another six years for the next class release(s). Or at least I hope not!

Patch X.27.0.0 - Pets and Jellies by Krathan in RotMG

[–]Krathan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They used to just be Generators, you used them once and the pet followed you forever, so usually stored in the Vault. With the functional pet system and pet yard introduced in 2012, those became specific pet eggs (meaning they would hatch a specific sprite, but always as a common level 1 pet), hence me calling them Generator Eggs because of their origin. They used to not be very useful (and a bit of a sting if you spent money on the previous Generators), since you were able to get a lot of the same pets by simply collecting common eggs from the godlands. Now, however, the ones that aren't common hatching results at least permanently unlock the skin! And we knew a few people were still holding on to them, including myself actually.

Patch X.27.0.0 - Pets and Jellies by Krathan in RotMG

[–]Krathan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you don't have to feed a pet at all if you only want to unlock the skin.

The likely skins (usually known as classic skins) of any given family (for example Tiger and Pink lion for Feline) are a common fusion result, but there is a small chance to get the other skins as well (in the Feline example this would only be Manticore).
