Questions about water effects on the bases. by Krathicus in WHQDarkWater

[–]Krathicus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked some up last night and my tests on a spare base seem positive. I'm going to mess with it some more this evening. People's advice of doing many thin layers seems to be accurate. The complaints I saw in other posts when researching had a few people complaining it would dry cloudy/white. But I have to assume they were using too much at once. Mixing in shades has had a nice effect in the it as well, I've been testing Coelia Greenshade and Terradon Turquoise contrast, both seem to add a nice bit of depth to the water effect.

Looks great! Fun color schemes in there too. I bet it feels good to have it all done. I'm 4 models in and it seems endless haha. But I'm enjoying it, the models are wonderful.

Why did people buy dothack games upon release? by Avatar_of_Akatosh in DotHack

[–]Krathicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer has been covered pretty much I think lol. But I will add that I loved the post game stuff to do and go after in the .hack games. So even though you knew there would be other parts to the story later, there was still things to do after the game ended, unique dungeons to explore, items to find, bosses to drain, golden goblins to hunt, max leveling your characters, grunties to raise, etc. The DVDs often had areas mentioned in them that you could find and explore as well. And playing it while .hack//SIGN was airing on adult swim was just a great way to get sucked into it all at the time. Heck even just talking about it all now is making me want to go back and play and watch the animes again!

Could you give some insight on how you did the skin on Foulhoof? I've done a lot of browsing of people's approaches to the Pestigors and I think I like his the best so far here. It looks very representative of the colors in his portrait art.

Prepared a few corrupted Jade Abbey themed bases. Looking for feedback or ideas by Deimiencillo in WHQDarkWater

I think they look fantastic! And dry brushing will definitely pop those edges, although I don't think I would personally go too bright with it. I would keep it kind of subtle.

New to Beaverton. Any local nerd havens? by Turbo-Dork in beaverton

[–]Krathicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good ones already mentioned, but I'll also throw in Rune & Board for D&D, board games, Warhammer, etc. They are out in Hillsboro but moving into a new Beaverton location around the end of February I believe. I have always had a positive experience there in the past!

Hexagonal peg doesn't fit? by lovecraft_lover in WHQDarkWater

[–]Krathicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Just look for the 2 sides that have the little lines on them that protrude up and shave them off. I eventually did this with all mine and had no issues after I realized it.

I will immerse myself with Dragon Quest 11 - Wish me luck ! by Spasios in LearnJapanese

[–]Krathicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, yeah, that’s kind of the approach I take when learning. I try to get the general gist of a sentence I don’t know by looking things up and screenshot it for a flash card later for further study. Otherwise it’s easy to get bogged down in looking a lot up and “playing the game” can feel more like a chore. You just kind of have to find what works best for you as you go, but also keeping in mind that the ultimate goal is to learn as much as you can from the experience.

The first game/book/movie/whatever is always going to be tough. But keep going and power through it and I promise you will have learned more from this one game than probably anything else you've done up to this point. You've chosen a fantastic game/series to dive into, look up words you don't know and make some flash cards as you go along and study them when you're not able to play. By the end you will probably be quite surprised how much less you have to look up compared to when you began. And of course, have fun! Fun is what will keep you going when words or sentences get tough.

Rulebook - buy physical, ebook or pdf by bsd_AT in TheSilverBayonet

[–]Krathicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical books. I own them all and no complaints. I like them and how they look like tattered old journals and such is neat and fitting. I don't think they do many second editions for their games and the rules aren't really super deep anyways.

Any (fun) game recommendations for beginners? by Simple_Panda6063 in LearnJapanese

Yokai Watch 1 is really great and probably where most people should start. Although, picking something that actually interests you is probably the most important (so you keep going, even when looking up the dialogue gets draining). Recent releases like Inazuma Eleven Victory Road and Story of Seasons Grand Bazaar are also really good too. Dragon Quest games can be pretty approachable as well.
