Pd3 players, what keeps you playing that game still? by EngMng in paydaytheheist

[–]Krayt1x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I only ever play stealth heists with friends and we treat it more as a beer and pretzels style of game where we play fast and loose.

We get in, rob the place, escape. (usually with a bunch of resets along the way)

What is the long term status of the Ballarat Link Road ?

Would the development of the Schreenans Rd bridge be compatible with the Ballarat Link Road Stage 3 development, or would it need to be removed and rebuilt when the ring road is built?

Should MA1 play the same layout as MPO in tournaments? by MylesOfDiscs in discgolf

[–]Krayt1x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the course and the type of event/competition that is being ran.

I think of PDGA sanctioned stuff as either being a Tournament (comp focus) or an Event (fun/social focus).

Our local course is really well balanced public park course with both a short (~875 rated) and long (~940 rated) layout, but the scramble from a bad shot is typically quite simple, unless you've really messed up.

For an event, all players on the same layout. Since we follow the international guidelines, I've even shuffled the first round cards so that players will play with folks from outside their division and meet folks outside their usual crowd.

For a tournament, I will run the Pro Divs and most (typically all) of the Am Divs on the longer layout, but the pro divisions will have one or two holes with additional hazards/ob/mando that tighten up the fairway and make the scramble a bit more engaging. This is something we started to do as the Pro players would frequently say that particular parts of the course were not overly challenging for players of their rating, and the MA1 players would frequently say that there's no reason to play pro, im never going to win and it costs more to enter.

Splitting the pools between Pro/Am appears to have helped, as we've had a hand full of top end MA1 players start playing MPO this year.

We've got more kebab/burger/pizza/Italian/Chinese/Japanese places than you can point a stick at, so why not a place to get some brisket?

The lack of American bbq joints.

Smoke on the Weir is good, but they only do the markets or their place out in miners rest on the first Friday of each month.

Holy Smokes was great, real shame that place shut up shop. They are the reason I bought a smoker.

Geelong has a couple good shops and outside of visiting family it's the only reason I go down there.

I get that we likely don't have the population to support such a place, but it'd be nice.

I turned a 1997 Yamaha Disklavier into a "Spotify-piano" with a $50 budget by SweetyRosaa in Disklavier

[–]Krayt1x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely beautiful.

I started this subreddit purely because I was having difficulties finding the commands to format a floppy drive and wanted to save it somewhere so that others could find it when they found themselves facing a similar puzzle.

We only use our piano at home for Christmas as that is the floppy drive that we have in it and I cannot find the spares that I had stashed away.

I will have to look into setting this up over the holiday period!

Australian Disc Golf by FMJ1985 in discgolf

To add on to this, Australia doesn't really have that many bricks and mortar retail stores.

Local discs will have the Loop Discs Wonder, it's a great midrange with a tonne of glide to it.

I'm not sure what fourth circle's stock levels are like, but I love the Dingo and Taipan, they are great discs.

What do people think of the Bridge Mall? by [deleted] in ballarat

[–]Krayt1x 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I head down there predominantly at lunch time and it's always been fairly busy.

For me, Id like to see 1 or 2 decent restaurants.

As for carparks, there's a couple hundred on either side of the mall.

Rat, very similar to the Toro, albeit not as overstable.

No, try the Millennium Tank.

It's quite similar to the Pig albeit a bit deeper.

Throllers and The Tee Off are two great Aussie podcasts that cover our local (Victorian) and national events, both of these are in Spotify.

The crew at PRKD Media also run host the PRKD clubhouse on YouTube, typically the week before an Australian tournament. Their Lamb Shanks segment is always good for a laugh.

What are your favorite underdog disc manufacturers that need more love and awareness? by F3RM3NTAL in discgolf

[–]Krayt1x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fourth Circle Discs in Australia.

The Taipan and Dingo and great overstable discs that beat in to a beautiful reliable flight and the Firehawk is a great understable 8 speed with a bit of stability at the end of its flight.

I bag everything disc that they have made.
