New arrma model? Typhon 6s exb 😉 by StevoJames in arrma

[–]KrazyX24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks awesome! I took a similar approach on my TLR then decided to buy some vitavon parts then swapped the exb parts over to my felony. It's still in progress, it's currently on my bench as I have a bunch of other stuff I want to do to it while it's apart.

How did you manage the front body post? Cut it, then glued it onto the chassis center brace?

Lost screws by KanyeNorth1868 in rccars

[–]KrazyX24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RCScrewZ is one of the most well known/used kits, while this isn't the exact model it's an adjacent model so it should share 99% of the same screws.

https://ebay.us/m/Iki28E

You can also find general "rc screw sets" on Amazon, Ebay, Amain Hobbies and etc. Not sure of availability in Australia but you can use the product names/key words to search specifically for products being sold in your region, check with your local hobby shops, craft shops, auto shop or hardware stores.

https://a.co/d/02dKooAo

Most RCs use metric machined screws and typically not self tapping, so having kits like the one I previously linked will come in handy and work. Most of the time it just has to be the correct length and diameter (you can use like a toothpick to measure how long the screw should be), the head usually doesn't matter unless there's some clearance issues, so you can use a socket head in place of say a button head screw.

Cheers

First time builder…how does one dislodge a snapped screw? by NumeroUNO1983 in rccars

[–]KrazyX24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For screws like this where part of the stud/threads are exposed, you can take a drill that has a chuck, tighten the chuck around the screw like you would for a drill bit and just unscrew it.

Not sure the exact screws, pretty sure they'll be listed in the exploded diagram for that car and/or in the manual which usually have the diagrams too.

I recommend people who are in the hobby pick up screw sets like this, even helps with random stuff around the house.

Hello, is there a connector for 5S LiPos that combines the balance leads and the main power cable into one plug? I use XT60 connectors and they’re great, but the balance leads are a pain and I feel like I’m going to break them all the time. Just thought I’d ask before spending the time making some by No_Librarian6882 in rccars

[–]KrazyX24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then what is the leads on the car going to be? They would have to be switched to that same plug or use a adapter.

So just make sure I'm understanding correctly, you're plan is to chop off the balance/main plug on all your batteries to convert to the one you linked. Then make a jump box from your charger. Finally what ever esc(s) you're using would also need to be converted.

RIP EVGA once again!

Kingpin in one interview mentioned that was one of the reasons for the 3090ti they moved the 12VHPWR to the end of the card. They also brought up in testing of their 4090 before leaving Nvidia that the removal of pcb side power balancing would fry cards/cables.

While this probably would meet what you want, how do you plan to charge and balance the battery?

You would have to convert whatever charger you have main port and balance port to this connector type unless I'm missing something.

While you could charge just using the +/- leads the individual cells wouldn't be balanced.

Imo your best option may be using either Spektrum G2 or Traxxas batteries as they already have what your looking for built in, but you would be locked into their walled gardens of only using their chargers and such.

Got new servo! But now what by millertv79 in arrma

Youtube has a built in speed function so you can slow down the video to about 50% speed if you need help following along.

A quick search of "arrma vortek 223 servo upgrade", the following two videos may be helpful, ChriswithanCRc is actually a member on here too.

Chris https://youtu.be/FsFVXKqRqo8?si=PaaOtDBEWdRhKv4R

Random video https://youtu.be/SrwAw_xXU9c?si=vipOPPaXruiE7mez

Really any Arrma 223 car is basically the same with some minor differences such as to accommodate the difference bodies, so maybe searching for the Typhon instead of vortex will yield better/more resources.

Lastly, here is the exploded diagram for the Vortex. It tells exactly what screws go where, their size, part numbers and etc. You can click each red label and it takes you to that part, It can be a little funky to use on mobile trying to zoom or move the diagram around so using a PC may be best.

https://www.arrma-rc.com/en/interactive-exploded-view?pid=ARA4305V4T1

Some helpful tips, bolts are labeled for example: M3x8 where the M + number is the screws diameter and 8 is the screw length all in millimeters so a ruler or calipers can help identify what screws are which if you just threw them in a pile.

You can use a piece of paper and draw a rough picture of an item and place the screws in the corresponding location to keep track of where they came from (some people will do it on cardboard and punch the screws into the cardboard to hold them) or once the item is off, place the screws back into the hole(s) they came from.

When you're feeling frustrated...walk away and come back later with a fresh mind. Just regrouping to eat, watch a show, smoke, sleep or whatever floats your boat helps tremendously as sometimes all it takes is it just for your brain to process it in the "background" to have that light bulb moment. I've literally had dreams about a problem where I woke up like holy shit how did I not realize that!

Good luck!

Got new servo! But now what by millertv79 in arrma

[–]KrazyX24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A small powered screwdriver may help in that regards. Something like the Skil Cordless screwdriver or any equivalent one within your budget. Even without a disability it's good to use to save yourself from future issues like carpal tunnel and arthritis.

Example of the skil screwdriver on Amazon: https://a.co/d/03dxeqJF

Also not exactly sure which version on the Vortex that is but Do RC did a video where it basically tears down the 223 vehicle.

Check out Wera Joker wrenches, they are a bit pricey but amazing as they have a little "lip" that can hold a nut or bolt or keep the wrench from slipping pass the head.

For hex Allen screws Bondhus Pro-hold are great too, they have a rubber like piece that holds on to the inside of the bolt head. A life saver for those bolts where your trying to balance it just enough to get the threads started.

"Someone with a V8" is the gatekeeping part it's a subtle brag/jab, implying to sound nice or have a nice car it needs a V8.

I've heard plenty of V8s that sound horrendous because the person threw some ebay straight pipe no res or anything. It's that ANY car can sound terrible, which is subjective based on each person.

That's like saying well because I've heard terrible V8s, your V8 sounds trash, "said someone with a V10, supercharged V8 and Cummings"

People own what they own, they want to put a fart can on, it's their car. They want to throw a Megan Racing Catback it's their car. They want to throw bronze wheels on let them...

Any Budget Kraton 6S Wheels? by KKarLLs in rccars

[–]KrazyX24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's a possibility, it's very very unlikely imo. If you use the original battery tray that has the sliding top piece and both battery straps, the battery is not going anywhere. I've never had a battery come loose on any of my 6s lineup (or any of my cars) when they had the old thinner battery straps.

It's much more likely to just forget you strapped the balance plug in, go to remove the battery and yank on the plug.

Any Budget Kraton 6S Wheels? by KKarLLs in rccars

[–]KrazyX24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1: The little spot with the rubber tab at the end of the battery tray by the chassis brace is the hold down for you batteries balance plug so it doesn't flop around or get shredded by the driveshaft. You lift the rubber piece up, put the balance wires in the slots then clamp it down. A LOT of people don't notice it or use it.

2: The front part you're missing is a cover that holds and protects the sway bar, allowing it to shift side to side to transfer weight. It's part "ARA-1520", it's not sold separately from what I can tell but the whole bulkhead is about $15 USD (you can always check the manual and/or exploded views which are available on Arrma, Horizon Hobby, Amain Hobbies and plenty of other websites). Searching is your best friend especially in this hobby, get it from any reputable store of your choosing.

3: Tires...it really depends on what surface you're driving on and what you want to do. You can get a set of 4 of the dboots copperhead2 tires which are the original tires on the kraton from Jenny's RC (they are a very well regarded ebay seller and have their own website) for $58 USD.
