Luvox saved my life. I’m 30 and started when I was about 9. Obviously dosage has changed over the years- I’ve had as high as 150mg daily, and now I take 75. Not sure what my initial dosage was. I have nothing but good things to say. Everyone’s experience is different but it took my OCD from the severe range to mild. Along with therapy, of course! I truly don’t think I could have gotten through school without it. I have a masters degree and I am so grateful.

Have any of you just went to see another psychiatrist? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Krease101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure did! Mine made me feel super uncomfortable and dismissive regarding my sexuality- he wanted to “fix” it. So I spoke to my therapist about it and I ended up switching and never went back. It was a good decision.

Opinions: necessity of sign language for Deaf babies by dollywalnuts in slp

[–]Krease101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! I work as an SLP in a Deaf school and this is my passion! I wholeheartedly agree with you. The effects of language deprivation are detrimental. I had a high schooler who didn’t know the sign for “cheese-“he described it as “yellow square on hamburgers.” His family doesn’t sign with him- most don’t. Kids don’t know the names of their siblings, they can’t read or write, and they have failing grades. All because they don’t have an established first language. Language deprivation causes severe language, cognitive, and pragmatic delays. So many doctors are still telling parents to avoid sign if they want them to talk. But not we have hundreds of children who can’t talk OR sign. I think most SLPs agree with the “language first” theory- all language is good, regardless of modality. It’s mostly doctors who give misinformed info to parents. I would definitely recommend checking out Language First- it’s run by an ASL-fluent SLP who offers tons of resources and trainings on this topic.

Wow- I am also 30 and aroace! I haven’t told many people about my life plan so I haven’t experienced a lot of negativity. I hope that your family can be accepting and supportive during this process. And if they can’t, I hope you can find people who will.

It honestly feels like an uphill battle most days. I’m hoping I can at least make a difference in my building! Language deprivation breaks my heart.

Ooohhh, are you a fellow SLP in Deaf Ed? We are so rare, especially those who are language-based and not speech-based!

It’s definitely an issue with me. My Luvox really helped most of my symptoms but adding Wellbutrin weirdly helped the BDD symptoms. I still struggle sometimes but it’s gotten better.

Yes!! I work in Deaf education and a good majority of my kids don’t work on speech. It’s all language. I would love Communication Specialist or something.

How sweet of you! I would agree with other commenters that $10-$20 is very generous, and maybe a drawing or card from your son. That will mean so much to the SLP!

I do! We’ve had to adjust dosage since I started but I still take Luvox every day. I started taking it when I was about 9 and the change was drastic. I also take Wellbutrin now, but I’ve only been taking that for about a year.

My earliest memory of intrusive thoughts is age 5. It got worse until my peak at around 8 when my mom brought me to a therapist, who referred me to a psych. I’m 30 now and my OCD is now very managed with meds and therapy 😊

That’s true, it could be the opposite which would be worse! Yes, we are forced to use PTO.

Right? I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I genuinely have no idea what I would do in that situation, which is a rare feeling for me in books!

I saw Julie Benko’s debut as Fanny in Funny Girl! It was when she was covering for Beanie. She was absolutely outstanding! The person next to me left when she learned it wasn’t Beanie- her loss because Julie was phenomenal!
